    Multivariable control of a grid-connected wind energy conversion system with power quality enhancement

Optimal speed control of the SCIG is achieved by a conventional PI controller combined with a MPPT strategy. DTC-SVM technique based on a simple Clarke transformation is used to control the generator-side three-level converter in the variable speed WECS. The flow of real and reactive power between the inverter and the grid is controlled via the grid real and reactive currents and the DC link voltage using multivariable H∞ control. The overall WECS and control scheme are developed in Matlab/Simulink and the performance of the proposed control strategy is evaluated via a set of simulation scenarios replicating various operating conditions of the WECS such as variable wind speed and asymmetric single grid faults. The power quality of the WECS system under H∞ control control approach is assessed and the results show a significant improvement in the total harmonic distorsion as compared to that achieved with a classical PI control.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio

    Adoption of data spaces as multi-sided platforms: Towards a preliminary adoption framework

    Organizations recognize the strategic value of data and explore diverse means of harnessing its potential. Opportunities for data sharing and collaboration via platforms have been discussed. Among these platforms, data spaces, as multi-sided platforms, have gained prominence. Yet, the motivations behind their adoption by organizations remain unclear. Existing literature primarily delves into technical aspects, neglecting socio-organizational considerations. Recognizing the influence of socio-organizational factors in information system adoption, our study addresses this gap. Through a structured literature review, we identify 15 adoption approaches and corresponding factors, spanning individual and organizational levels. Thus, allowing us to derive a preliminary data space adoption framework

    Modeling the impact of distancing measures on infectious disease spread: a case study of COVID-19 in the Moroccan population

    This paper explores the impact of various distancing measures on the spread of infectious diseases, focusing on the spread of COVID-19 in the Moroccan population as a case study. Contact matrices, generated through a social force model, capture population interactions within distinct activity locations and age groups. These matrices, tailored for each distancing scenario, have been incorporated into an SEIR model. The study models the region as a network of interconnected activity locations, enabling flexible analysis of the effects of different distancing measures within social contexts and between age groups. Additionally, the method assesses the influence of measures targeting potential superspreaders (i.e., agents with a very high contact rate) and explores the impact of inter-activity location flows, providing insights beyond scalar contact rates or survey-based contact matrices. The results suggest that implementing intra-activity location distancing measures significantly reduces in the number of infected individuals relative to the act of imposing restrictions on individuals with a high contact rate in each activity location. The combination of both measures proves more advantageous. On a regional scale, characterized as a network of interconnected activity locations, restrictions on the movement of individuals with high contact rates was found to result in a 2% 2 \% reduction, while intra-activity location-based distancing measures was found to achieve a 44% 44 \% reduction.     Run-time transmission power reconfiguration and adaptive packet relocation in wireless network-on-chip

    Network-on-chip (NoC) is an on-chip communication network that allows parallel communication between all cores to improve inter-core performance. Wireless NoC (WiNoC) introduces long-range and high bandwidth radio frequency (RF) interconnects that can possibly reduce the multi-hop communication of the planar metal interconnects in conventional NoC platforms. In WiNoC, RF transceivers account for a significant power consumption, particularly its transmitter, out of its total communication energy. CurrentWiNoC architectures employ constant maximum transmitting power for communicating radio hubs regardless of physical location of the receiver radio hubs. Besides, high transmission power consumption in WiNoC with constant maximum power suffers from significant energy and load imbalance among RF transceivers which lead to hotspot formation, thus affecting the reliability of the onchip network system. There are two main objectives covered by this thesis. Firstly, this work proposes a reconfigurable transmitting power control scheme that, by using bit error rate (BER) estimation obtained at the receiver’s side, dynamically calibrates the transmitting power level needed for communication between the source and destination radio hubs. The proposed scheme achieves significant total system energy reduction by about 40% with an average performance degradation of 3% and with no impact on throughput. The proposed design utilizes a small fraction of both area and power overheads (about 0.1%) out of total transceiver properties. The proposed technique is generic and can be applied to any WiNoC architecture for improving its energy efficiency with a negligible overhead in terms of silicon area. Secondly, an energyaware adaptive packet relocator scheme has been proposed. Based on transmission energy consumption and predefined energy threshold, packets are routed to adjacent transmitter for communication with receiver radio hub, with an aim to balance energy distribution in WiNoC. The proposed strategy alone achieves total communication energy savings of about 8%. A joint scheme of the reconfigurable transmitting power management and energy-aware adaptive packet relocator is also introduced. The scheme consistently results in an energy savings of 30% with minimal performance degradation

    Contribution au développement de tags chipless et des capteurs à codage dans le domaine temporel

    La RFID sans puce, en raison du très faible coût des tags, a ouvert une nouvelle voie pour les systèmes d'identification. Les étiquettes RFID sans puce fonctionnant dans le domaine temporel ont l'avantage d'être compatibles avec de grandes distances de lecture, de l'ordre de quelques mètres, et de pouvoir fonctionner dans les bandes de fréquence ISM. Cependant, les tags de ce type développés jusqu'à lors n'offraient qu'une faible capacité de codage. Cette thèse propose une nouvelle méthode pour augmenter la capacité de codage des tags fonctionnant dans le domaine temporel en utilisant des C-sections, c'est-à-dire des lignes de transmission repliées de manière à avoir des zones fortement couplées, ce qui leur donne un caractère dispersif. Une autre approche basée sur une technique multi-couches a également été introduite de façon à augmenter considérablement la capacité de codage. Pour terminer, la preuve de concept d'un tag-capteur d'humidité, basé sur l'utilisation de nano fils de silicium, est également présentée.Chipless RFID tags, owing to their low cost, have opened a new way to the identification systems. Chipless RFID tags operating in the time domain have the advantage of being compatible with large reading distances of the order of a few meters, and also can operate in the ISM frequency bands. However, time domain tags developed until now offer poor coding capacity. This thesis proposes a new method to increase the coding capacity of tags operating in time domain by using C-sections, i.e. the transmission lines are folded so as to have tightly coupled zones that give them a dispersive nature. Another approach based on a multi-layer technique was also introduced, in order to increase the coding capacity considerably.     Mathematical modelling the emergence of viruses in naïve populations

    Viruses pose a global threat to both humans and other animals. The severity of this impact is often amplified in populations with no prior immunity to the virus. Epidemics in naïve populations may occur due to novel virus emergence or the emergence of a known virus in a new geographical region. With climate change and globalisation, the frequency of the epidemics is likely to increase. Vector-borne viruses, spread by insects, have been increasingly observed in geographical regions where it was once believed that climatic conditions would not support the spread of these viruses. Mathematical models are a useful tool for policy makers to refer to while attempting to control and prevent epidemics. First, we focus on the Culicoides-borne virus African horse sickness virus (AHSV), using a systematic search to further the understanding of the dynamics of infection in naïve equines and parameterising a spatio-temporal model for the emergence of AHSV in naïve equids in Morocco 1998.
