    Spectral high resolution feature selection for retrieval of combustion temperature profiles

But this improvement in accuracy is not easy to achieve due to the great amount of data which makes difficult any treatment over it and it's redundancies. To solve this problem, a pick selection based on principal component analysis has been adopted in order to make the mandatory feature selection over the different channels. In this paper, the capability to retrieve the temperature profile in a combustion environment using neural networks jointly with this spectral high resolution feature selection method is studied.Publicad

    Mapping Wide Row Crops with Video Sequences Acquired from a Tractor Moving at Treatment Speed

    This paper presents a mapping method for wide row crop fields. The resulting map shows the crop rows and weeds present in the inter-row spacing. Because field videos are acquired with a camera mounted on top of an agricultural vehicle, a method for image sequence stabilization was needed and consequently designed and developed. The proposed stabilization method uses the centers of some crop rows in the image sequence as features to be tracked, which compensates for the lateral movement (sway) of the camera and leaves the pitch unchanged. A region of interest is selected using the tracked features, and an inverse perspective technique transforms the selected region into a bird’s-eye view that is centered on the image and that enables map generation. The algorithm developed has been tested on several video sequences of different fields recorded at different times and under different lighting conditions, with good initial results. Indeed, lateral displacements of up to 66% of the inter-row spacing were suppressed through the stabilization process, and crop rows in the resulting maps appear straight

    State of conservation of half-timbered walls in Burgos (Spain): Quantitative analysis of material and structural degradation

    [EN] The systematic data collection and quantitative analysis of 225 half-timbered walls found in the province of Burgos made it possible to reach conclusions on the frequency and scope of 27 phenomena of material degradation and 11 types of structural lesions. Almost the entirety of the sample analysed presents some degree of material degradation, mostly slight atmospheric lesions such as surface atmospheric erosion and chromatic alteration and dehydration of the timber. A greater vulnerability to structural lesions, particularly structural deformation, has been observed in this type of wall. The results presented in this text form the basis for understanding the conservation and restoration needs of half-timbered walls, given the indispensability of knowledge of the most common degradation systems.This study is part of a doctoral thesis funded with a predoctoral contract grant for training teachers from the Spanish Ministry of Science Innovation and Universities (ref.     Grid sequence detector based on a stationary reference frame

    This paper proposes a new three-phase positive sequence detector. The scheme is based on a stationary reference frame and a Moving Average Filter (MAF) that guarantees the complete cancellation of harmonics and grid imbalances. The performance of the MAF is mathematically analyzed and a proper selection of the optimal filter’s window width is realized. The proposed detector operates in open loop and there is no PI controller to be tuned. Thus, the dynamic response and simplicity is improved compared to other solutions. Performance of the proposed detector is verified through simulation and experiment. It shows very good performance under extreme grid voltage conditions, allowing fast detection of the grid voltage positive sequence (within one grid voltage cycle).Peer ReviewedPostprint (author’s final draft

    Today, it is more and more important to develop competences in the learning process of the university students (that is to say, to acquire knowledge but also skills, abilities, attitudes and values). This is because professional practice requires that the future graduates design and market products, defend the interests of their clients, be introduced in the Administration or, even, in the Politics. Universities must form professionals that become social and opinion leaders, consultants, advisory, entrepreneurs and, in short, people with capacity to solve problems. This paper offers a tool to evaluate the application for the professor of different styles of management in the process of the student’s learning. Its main contribution consists on advancing toward the setting in practice of a model that overcomes the limitations of the traditional practices based on the masterful class, and that it has been applied in Portugal and Spain

    Preliminary Analysis of Material Degradation Processes in Half-Timbered Walls with Earth Infill in Spain

    [EN] This analysis of the material degradation processes most commonly found in half-timbered walls with earth infill in Spain is part of a much broader line of research aiming to analyze, catalogue and understand their constructive techniques, state of conservation, and transformation in order to propose conservation guidelines. Systematic data collection and statistical analysis of material damage for 268 half-timbered walls with earth infill have made it possible to identify the most common degradation processes. The effect of these processes on this type of technique, as well as the relationship between them and any possible conditions contributing to their frequency, were examined. Almost half of the sample studied presents some type of material degradation, most frequently surface erosion, while the presence of vegetation is the least common pathology.     The PV potential of vertical façades: a classic approach using experimental data from Burgos, Spain

    Potential photovoltaic (PV) production from vertical façades facing the four cardinal points of the compass are calculated from daily average vertical global insolation readings measured in Burgos, Spain. Ten-minute data sets are collected over forty-five months, from January 2014 to September 2017, in the experimental campaign to produce estimates of daily average insolation levels, from which the PV potential of the vertical surfaces was calculated. Given the scarcity of data on Global Vertical Insolation (GVI), the main sky-related variables were processed in four classic decomposition models (Isotropic, Circumsolar, Klucher, and Hay) to predict the insolation values. Both the experimentally measured GVI values and those calculated with the models were then compared using the statistical indicators RMSE and MBE. The results highlighted the economic viability of Building Integrated PhotoVoltaic (BIPV) facilities, even on the north-facing façades, in comparison with the horizontal facility at the same location.Regional Government of Castile and Leon (Junta de Castilla-León) (Ref.
