Virtual Knowledge Graphs: An Overview of Systems and Use Cases

    Get PDF
In this paper, we present the virtual knowledge graph (VKG) paradigm for data integration and access, also known in the literature as Ontology-based Data Access. Instead of structuring the integration layer as a collection of relational tables, the VKG paradigm replaces the rigid structure of tables with the flexibility of graphs that are kept virtual and embed domain knowledge. We explain the main notions of this paradigm, its tooling ecosystem and significant use cases in a wide range of applications. Finally, we discuss future research directions

    Ontology Alignment: An annotated Bibliography

Ontology mapping, alignment, and translation has been an active research component of the general research on semantic integration and interoperability. In our talk, we gave our own classification of different topics in this research. We talked about types of heterogeneity between ontologies, various mapping representations, classified methods for discovering methods both between ontology concepts and data, and talked about various tasks where mappings are used. In this extended abstract of our talk, we provide an annotated bibliography for this area of research, giving readers brief pointers on representative papers in each of the topics mentioned above. We did not attempt to compile a comprehensive bibliography and hence the list in this abstract is necessarily incomplete. Rather, we tried to sketch a map of the field, with some specific reference to help interested readers in their exploration of the work to-date

Application of knowledge-based system in automated data warehouse design

Data warehouse has become more and more popular for an enterprise as a data repository system.Yet tools to appropriately design its conceptual model are rarely available, even though this model is known as a key for the successful of the overall design. In this paper we propose an approach and a tool to guide the decision makers in designing data warehouse conceptual model based on the Entity Relationship (ER) model of the existing operational database systems. Using this approach, the ER model is automatically transformed into the multidimensional model

A contextual semantic mediator for a distributed cooperative maintenance platform.

International audiencePlatforms expand maintenance systems from centralized systems into e-maintenance platforms integrating various cooperative distributed systems and maintenance applications. This phenomenon allowed an evolution in services offered to maintenance actors by integrating more intelligent applications, providing decision support and facilitating the access to needed data. To manage this evolution, e-maintenance platforms must respond to a great challenge which is ensuring an interoperable communication between its integrated systems. By combining different techniques used in previous works, we propose in this work a semantic mediator system ensuring a high level of interoperability between systems in the maintenance platform
