Objective: The present study was designed to investigate the antihyperlipidemic and anti-atherosclerotic activity of 70% methanolic crude extract of Cinnamomum verum bark in high cholesterol-fed diet rabbits. Methods: C. verum extract was administered at a dose level of 200 mg/kg and 300 mg/kg (p. o) daily for 120 d to cholesterol-fed rabbits. Lipid profile in serum and histological changes in heart and aorta were investigated. The statistical analysis was carried out by student's ‘t'test. Results: Plant extract showed a significant decrease in the levels of serum total cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids, LDL, VLDL (P ≤ 0.001) in a dose-dependent manner in treated animals. HDL ratio improved overwhelmingly as well as the marked decline was also noticed in the atherogenic index after administration with C. verum extract. Histopathological examinations demonstrated less cholesterol deposits in the aorta and significant increase in lumen size of coronary arteries of high cholesterol diet animals given C. verum compared to the high cholesterol diet animals not given C. verum supplement. Conclusion: The phytochemical analysis of methanol extracts indicated a strong presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, phenols, saponins and fatty acids may be responsible for the significant hypolipidaemic as well as antiatherosclerotic activity. Our study exhibited that the methanol extract of C. verum bark is a potent hypolipidaemic agent and decreased cholesterol deposition in the aorta and plaque formation process in the coronary artery of high cholesterol diet animals

On the application of nonlinear load elements to thermal analyses using the NASTRAN thermal analyzer

    Get PDF
The nonlinear load elements in thermal analysis are used to simulate an undocumented nonlinear thermal boundary condition. The treatment of the nonlinearity arising from the temperature-dependent convective film coefficients is shown in detail. As an illustration, emphasis is placed on the modeling techniques and their interrelationships with the solution accuracy as affected by a specific integration algorithm of the transient thermal analysis used in the NASTRAN Thermal Analyzer. Briefly shown is the underlying theory on which the maneuvering of terms pertinent to the modeling depends. This demonstration provides some insight into the intricacies of the method that would be general to all applications. A recommendation is also made to modify a nonlinear load element that will enhance the solution capability and broaden the scope of application

Varying the flexibility of the aromatic backbone in half sandwich rhodium(III) dithiolato complexes : a synthetic, spectroscopic and structural investigation

    Get PDF
A series of rhodium(III) half sandwich complexes of the type [Cp*Rh(PMe3)(S—R—S)]; S—R—S = naphthalene-1,8-dithiolate, acenaphthene-5,6-dithiolate, [1,1′-biphenyl]-2,2′-dithiolate and [2,2′-binaphthalene]-1,1′-dithiolate are reported. In the case of [2,2′-binaphthalene]-1,1′-dithiolate this represents an infrequent example of a metal complex containing this ligand. All the complexes have been fully characterised using multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The single crystal X-ray structure of the starting material [Cp*Rh(PMe3)Br2] ( 1 ) is also reported for the first time.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe

The infrared-active vibration-rotation fundamentals of sulfur dioxide were measured with moderately high spectral resolution. Quantum number assignments were made for spectral lines from J = O to 57, by comparison with theoretically computed spectra which include the effects of centrifugal distortion. The following values for the band centers were determined: nu sub 1 = 1151.65 + or - 0.10/cm, nu sub 2 = 517.75 + or - 0.10/cm, and nu sub 3 = 1362.00 + or - 0.10/cm. Intensities of the observed lines have also been computed. Dipole moment derivatives were obtained

The Crystal and Molecular Structure of 4-Formylimidazoline-2-thione

The title compound is monoclinic, space group P2 Jc, with a = 4.020 (4), b = 21.491(3), c = 7-410 (4) ,4,, fl = 124.1 (5) °, Z = 4. The structure was solved by Patterson-function and heavy-atom methods from diffractometer X-ray data. The final R value is 0.040. All the atoms lie approximately on the least-squares plane of the imidazoline ring. The molecules related by the glide plane are linked by N-H... O hydrogen bonds (2.840 ,~) to form a chain along e. The chains are held together by N-H... S hydrogen bonds (3.260 A) between the molecules related by an inversion centre

    Hydro-wind balance in daily electricity markets : a case-study

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT: The European Union has been one of the major drivers of the development of renewable energy. In Portugal, renewable generation is subject to specific licensing requirements and benefits from a feed-in-tariff. This paper pays special attention to wind and hydroelectric technologies. Typically, wind farms produce more energy during the night (off-peak periods), when the demand is lower, contributing to a reduction of the market price. Hydroelectric power plants use off-peak periods to pump water, and produce energy in the periods of a 24 hour day where the prices of electricity are higher (peak periods). This paper presents a case study aiming at analyzing the behavior of hydroelectric power producers—that is, in power systems with large renewable generation, producers typically use the periods of the day with lower energy prices for pumping, and the other periods (with higher energy prices) to produce electricity. The simulations are performed using MATREM (for Multi-Agent Trading in Electricity Markets). The results confirm (and rebate) the typical behavior of hydroelectric power producers.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Economic Impacts of the Elimination of Azinphos-methyl on the Apple Industry and Washington State

The Environmental Protection Agency has declared the organophosphate pesticide azinphos-methyl (AZM) cannot be used in the production of apples after September 30, 2012. We estimate the change to sales, price, and employment to the Washington State apple industry from using the likely AZM alternative had this ban been in effect in 2007. Furthermore, we estimate the effects of this ban as it ripples through the overall Washington State economy. We find the ban will bring a relatively modest change to sales (-0.8%), prices (0.2%), and employment (0.1%) in the apple industry, with negligible impacts on the overall Washington State economy.apples, azinphos-methyl, economic impact, computable general equilibrium
