The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-540-27834-4_93Proceedings of the 4th International Conference, ICWE 2004, Munich, Germany, July 26-30, 2004.Adaptive hypermedia constitutes a pretty rich resource for developing web-based courses. With the aim of dynamically generating adaptive e-courses, we have developed the TANGOW system which, starting from the course components and their adaptation capabilities (specified independently and out of the adaptation engine), generates different courses for students with different profiles, supporting several adaptation strategies. An integral part of any adaptive hypermedia system is the set of authoring tools to specify the course components and their adaptation capabilities. Without adequate tool support, authors may feel that it is “not worth the effort” to add adaptation to their courses. However, the development of this type of tools is not an easy task. The main goal of our authoring and visualization tools is to provide a simple interface to create such courses. This demo would demonstrate i) the dynamic generation of tailored e-courses that include individual and collaborative activities and ii) the use of authoring tools for the creation of such courses

A Practical Example for Model-Driven Web Requirements

The number of approaches for Web environments has grown very fast in the last years: HDM, OOHDM, and WSDM were among the first, and now a large number can be found in the literature. With the definition of MDA (Model- Driven Architecture) and the acceptance of MDE (Model-Driven Engineering) techniques in this environment, some groups are working in the use of metamodels and transformations to make their approaches more powerful. UWE (UMLBased Web Engineering) or OOWS (Object-Oriented Web Solutions) are only some examples. However, there are few real experiences with Web Engineering in the enterprise environment, and very few real applications of metamodels and MDE techniques. In this chapter the practical experience of a Web Engineering approach, NDT, in a big project developed in Andalusia is presented. Besides, it shows the usability of metamodels in real environments

    A Web-based Model-driven Platform for Web Augmentation

The emergence of Web personalization allowed introducing improvements to an application that runs as a black box just considering those perceivable behaviors by the end-user. In spite of which mechanisms (personalization, customization, etc.) that a particular application supports; it is not realistic to state that any application, being idealized by few people (e.g., its owners), covers every single user´s needs. In this sense, users may have unsatisfied requirements. Nowadays available Web augmentations are making full use of server-side capabilities for meeting requirements. We present a Web Augmentation modeling approach contemplating a client-server application that hides the back-end complexity to users. In this work we present a Web CASE tool to model server-side behavior for Web augmentation. This tool provides a full web-based experience for designing and running Web augmentations that requires client and server-side components.Fil: Urbieta, Mario Matías. Developing Systems with NDT and NDT-Tool

The rising interest for developing systems in web environments has produced that the research community poses the necessity of offering methodological proposals in order to give a suitable reference when a web system is produced. In the last years, several methodological proposals have appeared: OOHDM (Object Oriented Hypermedia Design Method, UWE (UML Based Web Engineering), OOH (Object-Oriented Hypermedia Method), WSDM (Web Site Design Method) or WebML (Web Modelling Language) are only some examples. However, there is not a standard and world wide accepted methodology. Each methodology proposes its own techniques and models. This fact has produced that some studies have been made in order to compare them. These comparatives studies show that there are some gaps in web engineering. This paper presents these gaps and introduces NDT (Navigational Development Techniques). NDT is an approach which offers a different development process that starts with requirements treatment and allows to get design models using a systematic process. It tries to solve some of these gaps detected in web engineering. In order to introduce how NDT confronts these gaps, the paper presents NDT development process, a global vision of its objectives and its tool case, NDT-Tool. Also, this paper enumerated some real projects developed by NDT and NDT-Tool in real companies

    Ontology-Based Approach for Application Integration

http://interop-esa05.unige.ch/INTEROP/Proceedings/Doctoral/PerPaper/II-1-Izza.pdfInternational audienceEnterprise Application Integration (EAI) is still facing the crucial semantic integration problem. This latter is not correctly addressed by today's EAI solutions that focus mainly on the technical and syntactical integration. Addressing the semantic integration level will promote EAI by providing it more consistency and robustness. Some efforts are suggested to solve the semantic integration problem, but they are still not mature. This paper deals with semantic problem in EAI and will present an ontology-based approach in order to overcome some issues of the integration problem

Accessibility of websites of the European national tourism boards

    Get PDF
Purpose: The aim is to find out the current state of accessibility of the websites of European national tourism boards. Furthermore, the identification of the most common errors in terms of accessibility as well as recommendations leading to their correction is aimed for. Design/methodology/approach: The study is based on methods of testing the availability of web systems. The testing included automated tools, namely AChecker and Accessibility Evaluation Tool, as well as the WCAG 2.1 checklist developed by WebAIM initiative. Findings: The research has shown a relatively high accessibility of those websites. Nevertheless, some accessibility violations have been identified that can significantly complicate the accessibility of those websites for users using various assistive devices or other alternative hardware or software means. The most commonly identified errors include: failure to use alternative text for content-relevant images, the absence of text or audio transcripts for videos shared via Youtube, missing descriptions for text form elements and missing label for search form. Practical implications: The results of the research can be used in the evaluation of web presentations at the level of tourism boards and destination management. Originality/Value: The main output of this article is the application of web testing methodology on a comprehensive set of national tourist boards.peer-reviewe

Family policies : a promising field of eParticipation

    Get PDF
Three cities in Germany – Hamburg, Berlin and Munich – have opened up a new field for eParticipation. They initiated a dialogue on the Internet to ask their citizens what family-friendly living in each of the cities should look like. All three discourses – conducted between November 2005 and November 2008 – provide comparable and interesting results on four aspects: context, course, clients and results. One of the most promising results of all three debates is that the issue attracts a user group which is not a majority in political discussions. The discussions in Hamburg, Munich and in Berlin were able to motivate female participants in particular to have their say and to dominate the discourse. This is an encouraging result for politics and eParticipation in general. Politicians are able to get into contact with a group which is more difficult to reach and involve in the political process. By addressing this topic, Hamburg, Munich and Berlin have taken a big step forwarding the field of eParticipation. As a result, it is to be expected that other European cities and municipalities will take up this topic, not only to promote eParticipation but also to help politicians harness expert local knowledge in the interests of successful and sustainable family policy

An architecture for personalized systems based on web mining agents

[EN]The development of the present web systems is becoming a complex activity due to the need to integrate the last technologies in order to make more efficient and competitive applications. Endowing systems with personalized recommendation procedures contributes to achieve these objectives. In this paper, a web mining method for personalization is proposed. It uses the information already available from other users to discover patterns that are used later for making recommendations. The work deals with the problem of introducing new information items and new users who do not have a profile. We propose an architectural design of intelligent data mining agents for the system implementation
