Industria fabril y crecimiento económico de la Unión Soviética: una mirada desde la historia económica

Este artigo examina o acelerado processo de industrialização da União Soviética e contraargumenta a ideia de que o poder econômico do país tenha sido derivado de seu grande tamanho e da enorme dotação de recursos naturais. Realiza-se uma síntese da história econômica do período de maior crescimento do produto e recorre-se à teoria econômica para interpretar o comportamento do crescimento econômico durante o período 1917-1960; dessa forma, sustenta-se a ideia de que a União das Repúblicas Socialistas Soviéticas (URSS) constituiu o primeiro caso de industrialização tardia.El presente artículo examina el acelerado proceso de industrialización de la Unión Soviética y rebate la idea de que el poderío económico del país derivó de su gran tamaño y enorme dotación de recursos naturales. UNDERSTANDING LONG-TERM ENERGY USE AND CARBON DIOXIDE EMISSIONS IN THE USA

We compile a database of energy uses, energy sources, and carbon dioxide emissions for the USA for the period 1850-2002. We use a model to extrapolate the missing observations on energy use by sector. Overall emission intensity rose between 1850 and 1917, and fell between 1917 and 2002. The leading cause for the rise in emission intensity was the switch from wood to coal, but population growth, economic growth, and electrification contributed as well. After 1917, population growth, economic growth and electrification pushed emissions up further, and there was no net shift from fossil to non-fossil energy sources. From 1850 to 2002, emissions were reduced by technological and behavioural change (particularly in transport, manufacturing and households), structural change in the economy, and a shift from coal to oil and gas. The legal form of labour conflicts and their time persistence: an empirical analysis with a large firms' panel

Using a panel of large firms from Spain, we check the relative time persistence of different types of labour conflicts such as strikes, collective conflicts, lockouts and other conflicts with lost working hours but without the previous stated legal forms for labour conflicts. We present random-effects probit estimations comparing observations with each type of conflicts with the same set of observations without any type of conflict. The results show that no legal form labour conflicts do not have long-term persistence (persistence is only in the short-term, from quarter to quarter), and the other types of conflicts suffer short and long-term persistence of confliction at the firm level, corresponds to strikes the higher size of both types of persistence. As short and long term persistence of strikes have almost the same size these results do not support asymmetric information theories of strike.Strike; labour conflict; time persistence; asymmetric information
