The agile approach has generated a wide variety of strategies to successfully manage various software projects worldwide. In addition, we can ensure that software projects have benefited from the already known agile methods. In this sense, this article seeks to demonstrate how the agile approach is applied in Software engineering management areas. To do this, this study performs a systematic mapping to identify the main trends in software engineering management with an agile approach. A total of 1137 articles have identified, of which 165 are relevant for the purposes of this study, these indicate that early value delivery, a key principle of agility, continues to be the main trend for the use of agile methods. However, there are also strong trends focused on key points of management in software engineering, such as optimize quality management, optimize requirements specification, optimize risk management, and improve team communication and coordination, these results will allow generating new lines of research for each key point of management in software engineering impacted by the agile approach

A Multi-User Interactive Coral Reef Optimization Algorithm for Considering Expert Knowledge in the Unequal Area Facility Layout Problem

The problem of Unequal Area Facility Layout Planning (UA-FLP) has been addressed by a large number of approaches considering a set of quantitative criteria. Moreover, more recently, the personal qualitative preferences of an expert designer or decision-maker (DM) have been taken into account too. This article deals with capturing more than a single DM’s personal preferences to obtain a common and collaborative design including the whole set of preferences from all the DMs to obtain more complex, complete, and realistic solutions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that the preferences of more than one expert designer have been considered in the UA-FLP. The new strategy has been implemented on a Coral Reef Optimization (CRO) algorithm using two techniques to acquire the DMs’ evaluations. The first one demands the simultaneous presence of all the DMs, while the second one does not. Both techniques have been tested over three well-known problem instances taken from the literature and the results show that it is possible to obtain sufficient designs capturing all the DMs’ personal preferences and maintaining low values of the quantitative fitness function

Efficient use of deep learning and machine learning for load forecasting in South African power distribution networks

Abstract: Load forecasting, which is the act of anticipating future loads, has been shown to be important in power system network planning, operations and maintenance. Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques have been shown to be good tools for load forecasting. Load forecasting can assist power distribution utilities maximise their revenue through optimising maintenance planning. With the dawn of the smart grid, first world countries have moved past the customer’s point of supply and use smart meters to forecast customer loads. These recent studies also utilise recent state of the art AI techniques such as deep learning techniques. Weather parameters are such as temperature, humidity and rainfall are usually used as parameters in these studies. South African load forecasting studies are outdated and recent studies are limited. Most of these studies are from 2010, and dating backwards to 1999. Hence they do not use recent state of the art AI techniques. The studies do not focus at distribution level load forecasting for optimal maintenance planning. The impact of adjusting power consumption data when there are spikes and dips in the data was not investigated in all these South African studies. These studies did not investigate the impact of weather parameters on different South African loads and hence load forecasting performance...D.Phil. (Electrical and Electronic Management

Modern robotic technologies have enabled robots to operate in a variety of unstructured and dynamically-changing environments, in addition to traditional structured environments. Robots have, thus, become an important element in our everyday lives. One key approach to develop such intelligent and autonomous robots is to draw inspiration from biological systems. Biological structure, mechanisms, and underlying principles have the potential to provide new ideas to support the improvement of conventional robotic designs and control. Such biological principles usually originate from animal or even plant models, for robots, which can sense, think, walk, swim, crawl, jump or even fly. Thus, it is believed that these bio-inspired methods are becoming increasingly important in the face of complex applications. Bio-inspired robotics is leading to the study of innovative structures and computing with sensory–motor coordination and learning to achieve intelligence, flexibility, stability, and adaptation for emergent robotic applications, such as manipulation, learning, and control. This Special Issue invites original papers of innovative ideas and concepts, new discoveries and improvements, and novel applications and business models relevant to the selected topics of ``Bio-Inspired Robotics''. Bio-Inspired Robotics is a broad topic and an ongoing expanding field. This Special Issue collates 30 papers that address some of the important challenges and opportunities in this broad and expanding field

Although the design and management of manufacturing systems have been explored in the literature for many years now, they still remain topical problems in the current scientific research. The changing market trends, globalization, the constant pressure to reduce production costs, and technical and technological progress make it necessary to search for new manufacturing methods and ways of organizing them, and to modify manufacturing system design paradigms. This book presents current research in different areas connected with the design and management of manufacturing systems and covers such subject areas as: methods supporting the design of manufacturing systems, methods of improving maintenance processes in companies, the design and improvement of manufacturing processes, the control of production processes in modern manufacturing systems production methods and techniques used in modern manufacturing systems and environmental aspects of production and their impact on the design and management of manufacturing systems. The wide range of research findings reported in this book confirms that the design of manufacturing systems is a complex problem and that the achievement of goals set for modern manufacturing systems requires interdisciplinary knowledge and the simultaneous design of the product, process and system, as well as the knowledge of modern manufacturing and organizational methods and techniques

Harnessing Human Potential for Security Analytics

Humans are often considered the weakest link in cybersecurity. As a result, their potential has been continuously neglected. However, in recent years there is a contrasting development recognizing that humans can benefit the area of security analytics, especially in the case of security incidents that leave no technical traces. Therefore, the demand becomes apparent to see humans not only as a problem but also as part of the solution. In line with this shift in the perception of humans, the present dissertation pursues the research vision to evolve from a human-as-a-problem to a human-as-a-solution view in cybersecurity. A step in this direction is taken by exploring the research question of how humans can be integrated into security analytics to contribute to the improvement of the overall security posture. In addition to laying foundations in the field of security analytics, this question is approached from two directions. On the one hand, an approach in the context of the human-as-a-security-sensor paradigm is developed which harnesses the potential of security novices to detect security incidents while maintaining high data quality of human-provided information. On the other hand, contributions are made to better leverage the potential of security experts within a SOC. Besides elaborating the current state in research, a tool for determining the target state of a SOC in the form of a maturity model is developed. Based on this, the integration of security experts was improved by the innovative application of digital twins within SOCs. Accordingly, a framework is created that improves manual security analyses by simulating attacks within a digital twin. Furthermore, a cyber range was created, which offers a realistic training environment for security experts based on this digital twin
