A Mixed- method Study on Problem- based Learning Approach and Mathematics Readiness of First- year Students
This study aims to explore the problem-based learning approach and the mathematics readiness of first-year students at Kapalong College of Agriculture Sciences and Technology. It adopts a descriptive correlational design to clearly illustrate specific conditions and analyze the relationships among various variables (McBurney & White, 2009). This design helps clarify the strength and direction of these relationships, making it possible to recognize patterns and trends. Being non-experimental, it involves observing and measuring variables in their natural setting. Although it can highlight associations, it does not determine cause-and-effect relationships. The key findings indicate that the implementation of the problem-based learning (PBL) approach is rated highly by students across the dimensions of authentic problems, collaboration, developing expertise, and authentic assessment. The level of students’ mathematics readiness is also high, particularly in subject knowledge, number sense, reasoning and generalization, and problem-solving. Furthermore, qualitative findings revealed that while students encountered difficulties in understanding and solving mathematical problems, they developed effective coping mechanisms such as seeking support, engaging in self-directed learning, collaborating with peers, and drawing motivation from internal and external sources, which contributed to their readiness in mathematics. There is a significant relationship between the problem-based learning approach and the mathematics readiness of first-year students, indicating that greater implementation of PBL strategies is associated with higher levels of readiness in mathematics. It can be concluded that the use of the problem-based learning (PBL) approach has a positive connection with students’ mathematics readiness. Since a significant relationship was found between PBL and mathematics readiness, it implies that PBL can be an effective instructional strategy to improve students’ mathematical understanding and problem-solving skills. However, the presence of difficulties and varying coping mechanisms among students suggests that other factors, such as learning styles, support systems, and instructional delivery, may also influence their readiness. Thus, while PBL enhances mathematical preparedness, it should be complemented with tailored support to address individual student needs

Grade Six Minds at Work: A Dual- approach Study on the Cognitive Efficiency of Fast Learners Section
This study explored the cognitive efficiency of Grade 6 fast learners, examining how engagement, effort, and persistence contribute to their academic performance. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach with a convergent parallel design, the research integrated quantitative data from 67 respondents who completed structured questionnaires and qualitative insights from 14 participants, including 7 in-depth interviews and 7 focus group discussions. The results indicated that fast learners demonstrate cognitive efficiency in their ability to focus on the task, persevere through the task, and be engaged while they learn. In addition, fast learners could still enter a sustained flow of cognition even while environmental disturbances occurred and lessons moved too fast through the curriculum space. The study identified the need for buildÉd learning environments that are statistically efficient in motivating fast learners via self-directed learning styles and strategies. Best practices identified in the literature review include teacher support, engagement strategies for fast learners, and use of metacognitive strategies to enhance fast learners' learning experiences

Unveiling the Intricacies of the Speeches of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.: A Critical Discourse Analysis
The purpose of this study was to analyze the common linguistic features used in the speeches of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to articulate his ideological perspectives and influence public perception. Also, this study utilized qualitative research using Critical Discourse Analysis approach and since this is a corpus-based study, the materials of this study were the speeches of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in various occasions. Furthermore, the result of this study presented the morphological processes in the political discourse of the aforementioned president namely affixation, compounding, and initialism, which were used to form politically charged and persuasive language. Also, two semantic dimensions namely denotative and connotative meaning have been analyzed to interpret the word meaning utilized by the president in his speeches to communicate his objectives, engage with the public, and convey ideological perspectives. The analysis of linguistic features in this study was guided by the linguistic concept of Finegan’s Language Structure & Use (2008). Additionally, the speeches exhibited four primary discourse types description, narration, exposition, and argument, each serving a unique purpose in engaging the audience and shaping national narratives. The results further revealed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. strategically used language to establish his ideological perspectives―such as economic policy, healthcare, education, foreign policy, and agriculture to establish power dynamics, ideological stances, and policy narratives that shape his communicative strategies. These findings hihlight the powerful role of language in political communication and suggest that a deeper understanding of linguistic and discourse strategies can provide valuable insights into how political leaders construct, convey, and legitimize their ideological perspectives
