The results are as follows;1. We can potentially identify two kinds of gun barrel made with manufacturing methods, udon-bari and maki-bari, which were main techniques recorded in old school documents.2. Most gun barrels are made of materials which mainly contain iron, silicon, phosphor, potassium and calcium, and without titanium in inclusion. Their carbon contents are <0.1% to 0.2%. These aspects are different from materials of iron swords.3. We find an barrel made by swordsmith contains iron-titanium oxide and being same characteristics as general iron swords, and on the contrary, also find a sword made by a smith in family tree of gunsmith contains iron, silicon, phosphor, potassium and calcium, and without titanium in inclusion. From these analytical results, it is assumed that the materials and manufacturing technique between swordsmith and gunsmith are different.4. Foreign guns have distinctly few inclusion and their inclusion contains mainly iron-manganese sulfide and fayalite
Differences in the Responses to Iron Deficiency Stress between Bean and Maize
The responses to iron deficiency stress in bean and maize were compared. The susceptibility to iron deficiency stress was smaller in bean than in maize;i.e., the tolerance to iron deficiency was greater in bean than in maize. The roots of the bean plants exposed to iron deficiency stress, developed iron reducing capacity and medium-pH lowering capacity,but not the roots of maize. The iron reducing capacity and medium-pH lowering capacity of the bean roots were inhibited by a shadowing, detopping, and the addition of 2,4-dinitrophenol. Iron absorption in the bean plants was stimulated by the pretreatment without iron in the growth medium, but not in the maize plants. Study on the Production of Iron Granule with Iron Sand by Means of Low Degrees of Base in the Furnace of Carbon Lining
On the production of iron granule with iron sand, the smelting in graphite crucible and the tests on basic degree of 0.077 to 0.373 were tried. In this investigation, chemical and theoretical conditions of Carbon, Silicon, manganese, Phosphorous, and Sulphur were observed. The followings are the results;1. High concentration of As was determined from a T-shaped ironware from the Akaborimura No.4 ruin and a metallic iron in a slag from the Natsume ruin. They were the additional cases of arsenic-rich iron excavated in Japan.2. Both iron ores and surrounding soils in the Dalcheon ruin included high concentration of As. The As contents in soils were higher than those of iron ores.3. The analytical results suggested that the high concentration of As observed in the materials in the Dacheon ruin derived from surrounding soils. Because soils were mixed with mined ores or As from soils infiltrated to the microscopic cracks in iron ores, the ores became As-rich.4. We didnât find the relationship between two analyzed Japanese metallic iron and iron materials in the Dalcheon ruin. It was determined that other As-rich mines were existed in Kofun period.äžéšéå
