Global themes of the financial inclusion landscape

    Get PDF
This paper gives a broad overview of the financial inclusion environment, and one that would prioritize the financial needs of women and youth. The key issues are addressed, as well as innovations, industry practices, and regulatory developments through the lens of women and youth. The paper highlights key macro issues to be factored into the overall design of the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) comparative study for three Sub-Saharan countries

    Integral transformation and Darboux transformation

We review Darboux-Crum transformation of Heun's differential equation. By rewriting an integral transformation of Heun's differential equation into a form of elliptic functions, we see that the integral representation is a generalization of Darboux-Crum transformation. We also consider conservation of monodromy with respect to the transformations.Comment: 7 pages, based on the talk presented at International Workshop on Nonlinear and Modern Mathematical Physics, China, 19th July 200

Prior to leaving for Claremont Colleges’ Envriolab Asia trip to Malaysia and Singapore, I was conflicted by the question: Do we have the moral authority to interfere with resource extraction and oil-palm development in SE Asia? At that time, the trip seemed imperialistic. Why should people from Malaysia, Indonesia or any developing SE Asia country listen to a group of liberal arts college faculty from a city where widespread habitat modifications have led to significant loss of native habitats, declines in biodiversity, and changes in how these ecosystems function? Many observations transformed my opinion and have inspired me to advocate for transformative environmental and social change both in SE Asia and at home

    Lorentz-transformation and Galileo-transformation Windows

    Get PDF
We define Lorentz-transformation windows as windows that change the direction of transmitted light rays like a Lorentz transformation. Similarly, Galileo-transformation windows change the direction of transmitted light rays like a Galileo transformation. This light-ray-direction change distorts the scene seen through such a window in the same way in which the scene would be distorted in a photo taken with a camera moving through the scene. Lorentz-transformation windows can also undo the distortion of the scene when moving at relativistic velocity relative to it. For small angles between the direction of the light rays and the direction of the velocity, Galileo-transformation windows can be realised with relatively simple telescope windows, which consist of arrays of identical micro-telescopes

The Value Transformation of Betty Warren in Mona Lisa Smile

This study analyzes a movie entitled Mona Lisa Smile. It is interesting that the movie contains the message about women's liberation movement reflected through the value transformation done by one of the characters, Betty Warren, which is why we decided to emphasize on the transformation as our main focus. We attempt to reveal the process of Betty Warren's value transformation by applying two concepts, which are the concept of Angel in the House and the concept of New Woman. We find out that Warren's experience of value transformation goes through several stages, which are from believing in her old values, going against the new modern values, finding disappointment toward her old values, then having a conflict within herself, and as the result, starting to consider and absorb the new values. The analysis leads to the fact that patriarchal values can be so strong because sometimes, women themselves are subconsciously acting as the agents
