A SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS OF K-POP’S SELECTED MUSIC VIDEOS: THE STUDY OF THE KOREAN WAVE AS A GLOBAL PHENOMENON

The purpose of this study is to determine the semiotic forms of the Korean wave in some K-Pop Music Videos. Semiotics is described as the study of signs. The videos studied were “Idol” by BTS, “Daechwita” by Agust D, “Hangover” by Psy and Snoop Dogg, “Pink Venom” by Blackpink and “Baam” by Momoland. I focused on the sign of denotation, connotation, and myth in these videos by using Roland Barthes’ theory. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. Data gathering was done by doing document analysis. There are 30 signs collected that were analyzed through interactive analysis of Miles and Huberman's theory involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification were carried out significantly. Based on the analysis done, it can be affirmed that music videos can be analyzed using Roland Barthes’ theory. The results find that the visual images communicate implied meaning conveyed through the pictures. It shows many signs related to the Korean Wave. For instance, hanbook, hangul, hoesik, Ilwol Obongdo, Pungmul, yangban, place, makeup, food, hairstyle, traditional musical instruments and accessories. All signs which were found in all 30 frames helped the video build the story of the song and deliver the intended message to the audience. It is related to the global phenomenon of the Korean Wave. Manpower Development for Korean Wave Related Industries in Vocational Colleges

The Korean Wave(Hallyu in Korean) is becoming a hot issue in Korea. It refers to the significant increase in the popularity of Korean culture including dramas, movies, and pop musics in Asia and more recently in other countries of the world. The wave has had considerable impacts on the international brand value of Korea as well as on the Korean economy. Many articles and newspapers have reported that Korean cuisine, performance arts including ‘K-pop’(an abbreviation of “Korean popular songs”), and tourism to Korea have played significant roles in the proliferation of the Korean Wave. Especially, tourism to Korea has increased significantly since the spread of the Korean Wave. Korean vocational colleges has contributed to the outstanding development of the economy by meeting the needs of manpower from industries. They have opened various ‘KWRDs (Korean Wave Related Departments)’ related to ‘KWRIs(Korean Wave Related Industries)’ in recent years. Relationship Between Peer Attachment with Korean Wave Cultural Conformity in Early Youth

The Korean wave cultural conformity that occurred in early adolescents was triggered because of a close relationship in friendship which made him adjust his behaviour with his peer group. This study aims to describe empirically the relationship of peer attachment with Korean wave culture conformity of students. The research uses a quantitative approach with correlational methods. The samples used were saturation samples, namely all students of class 7th grade SMP Negeri 44 Bandung Academic Year 2018/2019 who enjoyed Korean wave culture in the form of Korean pop and Korean drama totalling 88 people. Data collection techniques using peer attachment instruments adapted from the inventory of parents and peer attachment-revised and the Korean wave cultural conformity instruments developed by researchers. The results showed that in general, the peer attachment of students was in the category of secure attachment and Korean wave cultural conformity of students was in the category of obedience. This study recommends basic group guidance services that can improve the achievement of peer attachments and can reduce the Korean wave cultural conformity of students

KOREAN WAVE SEBAGAI INSTRUMEN SOFT POWER DIPLOMASI KEBUDAYAAN KOREAN SELATAN DI INDONESIA

ABSTRAKKorean Wave atau Hallyu merupakan penyebaran budaya popular dan hiburan Korea yang mulai tersebar pada pertengahan tahun 1990an yang akhirnya menjadi salah satu soft power diplomasi kebudayaan Korea Selatan dan masih terus bertransformasi hingga saat ini. Kesuksesan Korean Wave saat ini tidak lepas dari dukungan pemerintahnya yang memberikan dukungan penuh terhadap peningkatan Korean Wave. Saatini dimana pemerintah Korea Selatan sangat gencar meningkatkan dan menyebarkan Korean Wave di belahan dunia termasuk di Indonesia. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui dan menjelaskan bagaimana sejarah terbentuknya Korean Wave sebagai instrument soft power diplomasi kebudayaan Korea Selatan dan bagaimana Penerapan Korean Wave sebagai Instrument Soft Power Diplomasi Kebudayaan Korea Selatan di Indonesia serta mengetahui dan menjelaskan apa pengaruh Korean Wave sebagai instrument soft power diplomasi kebudayaan dalam membangun citra Korea Selatan di Indonesia. Untuk itu metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berbasis dokumen serta berbasis internet melalui buku, jurnal, dokumen, artikel,koran online, maupun laporan penelitian dari penelitian terdahulu. Dalam menganalisa data digunakan analisis kualitatif dimana dari data yang didapat disusun berdasarkan fakta-fakta yang ada kemudian mengkorelasikannya satu sama lain untuk melihat bagaimana penerapan Korean wave di Indonesia yang dijalankan oleh pemerintah Korea Selatan dan di dukung oleh para pelaku bisnis industri,media serta masyarakat secara umum serta pengaruh yang ditimbulkan terhadap citra Korea Selatan di Indonesia untuk kemudian ditarik sebuah kesimpulan. Dari data yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa melalui kepopuleran Korean Wave pemerintah Korea Selatan dapat mengelola dan memanfaatkan budaya Korean Wave menjadi soft diplomasi Korea Selatan sehingga dapat memperkuat posisinya dan meningkatkan citra Korea selatan di Indonesia bahkan di belahan bumi lainnya. Kata Kunci: Korean Wave; Soft Power; Diplomasi Kebudayaan. ABSTRACT               Korean Wave or Hallyu is the spread of popular culture and entertainment in Korea which began to spread in the mid-1990s which eventually became one of South Korea's soft power cultural diplomacy and still continues to transform today. The success of the Korean Wave is currently inseparable from the support of the government which provides full support for the improvement of the Korean Wave. At present, the South Korean government is intensely increasing and spreading Korean Wave in parts of the world, including in Indonesia. This research was conducted to find out and explain how the history of the Korean Wave was formed as a soft power instrument of South Korean cultural diplomacy and how to apply the Korean Wave as a South Korean Cultural Diplomacy Soft Instrument in Indonesia and to know and explain what Korean Wave influences as a soft power instrument in cultural diplomacy build the image of South Korea in Indonesia. For this reason the method used in this study is document-based and internet-based through books, journals, documents, articles, online newspapers, and research reports from previous studies. In analyzing the data, qualitative analysis is used where the data obtained is compiled based on the facts and then correlates with each other to see how the application of the Korean wave in Indonesia is run by the South Korean government and is supported by industrial, media and community businesses. general as well as the influence that has been made on the image of South Korea in Indonesia to draw a conclusion. KOREAN WAVE DAN IMPREALISME BUDAYA BAGI REMAJA ACEH

The rise of the Korean wave phenomena that has hit teenagers has raised concerns regarding the existence of local culture and social norms of Acehnese society. This research uses qualitative methods with a descriptive approach. Data collection was carried out through interviews with teenagers who like watching Korean dramas, movies and Korean music, as well as through related literature. The study results show that the Korean wave has had a strong impact on fans of Korean dramas, movies and Korean music. Among the cultures that have started to enter and join in are in terms of clothing style, culinary, language, types and genres of music to physical appearance.
