This paper is dedicated to the presentation of the single-channel waiting line systemswith Poisson arrivals and exponential service times. They represent stages of customer flowmanagement processes. Waiting systems are stochastic mathematical models and they represent thedescribing base of the waiting phenomena, service processes, prioritization, etc. Mathematicalmodels of queuing theory present interest in modeling, designing and analysing of nowadaysinformation networks. Increasing trend of their development and emergence of new networktechnologies, impose new requirements regarding the development of new mathematicals waitingmodels. In this paper we merely present the single-channel waiting line model, with example on afast-food restaurant.customer flow, queuing theory, waiting system, waiting line, efficiency

Understanding the queuing theory for improved service delivery: an entrepreneurial-mindset approach

Queuing theory plays a huge role in solving and preventing operational bottlenecks and service failures in the organization. But, observations show that Queuing analysis may become extremely complex and cumbersome. Therefore, most entrepreneurs, having realized its usefulness in managing their much earned successes achieved in relation to customer’s patronage and service delivery now desire its simplified applications in normal day to day running of operations. The methodology adopted in this paper, therefore is to describe queuing theory and its associated terminologies in relation to service delivery. In view of this, the paper presented a simplified exposition of queuing theory and management of waiting lines as it affects entrepreneurial drive for more business growth and opportunities with its attendant implications to customers’ service delivery and satisfaction. The paper concluded that if appropriately delivered and applied, queuing theory goes a long way in achieving and maintaining customer satisfaction. It recommended that entrepreneurs should seek the opportunity of gaining better understanding and application of queuing theory to practically reduce or eliminate boredom, irritation, breakdown and frustration to customers without much ado. Keywords: queues, customer, waiting line, entrepreneurs, servic

Transient analysis of M/M/1 queuing theory: an overview

    Get PDF
Queuing is a common phenomenon in our daily life. Mathematical study on waiting line or queues is called queuing theory. Generally, queuing theory has been used extensively by service industry in order to optimize the service effectiveness and improve the customer satisfaction since it helps an organization to understand how a system operates while reviewing the efficiency of the system. Most of queuing theory deals with system performance in steady-state condition. That is, most queuing models assume that the system has been operating with the same arrival rate, service rate and other characteristics for a sufficiently long time that the probabilistic behavior of performance measures such as queue length is independent of initial condition. However, in many situations, the parameters defining the queuing system may vary over time. Under such circumstances, it is most unlikely that such systems are in equilibrium. This paper reviews the transient behavior (no assumption of statistical equilibrium) of the queuing model. The aim is to provide sufficient information to analysts who are interested in studying queuing theory with this special characteristic

Tail behaviour of the area under a random process, with applications to queueing systems, insurance and percolations

The areas under workload process and under queuing process in a single server queue over the busy period have many applications not only in queuing theory but also in risk theory or percolation theory. We focus here on the tail behaviour of distribution of these two integrals. We present various open problems and conjectures, which are supported by partial results for some special cases

This study aims to determine the articles that are most concerned with the subject of queuing theory in the world, most cited studies, the scientific meetings that related to the topic and the most used keywords based on Web of Science (WOS) bibliographic database. The study is intended a bibliometric mapping and analysis of academic papers that carried out in the field of queuing theory in the international area. The search that made on WOS, includes between 1990 and 2015 November. According to the initial screening result on WOS, it has seen that a total of 59 studies were published since 1990 with the topic of "queuing theory" in social sciences and in operations research indexes. Then these studies were analyzed.peer-reviewe

    Queuing Theory in Theme Parks

    Get PDF
The goal of this project is to find the most efficient way for theme parks to process their guests. There currently exist many types of lines such as standby lines, single rider lines, and fastpass or skip the line queues. We will simulate a single rides queue. This will be a popular roller coaster at the park. Hourly throughputs of rides will be calculated, and a simulation will be created for the ride to start processing guests through different line scenarios. Through this method, we will find the best method for a park to process as many guests as they can, therefore shortening wait times and improving guest experiences. We will assume a perfect operating day, meaning no breakdowns, rain or ride closures. The final step will be to look at the strength of the model and see how far it can be expanded to create better guest experiences at the park
