The context effect in the choice of earthquake insurance contracts in Japan

In this paper, we investigate the context effect in the choice of public and private earthquake insurance contracts using data from a questionnaire survey completed by an identical set of approximately 2,000 households in 2008 and again in 2009. According to the 2008 survey, the public earthquake insurance (PEI) was not popular among those who felt that the premiums were too high. On the other hand, the 2009 survey demonstrates that the choice of earthquake insurance changed substantially when a hypothetical private earthquake insurance contract, much more expensive than the PEI, was added to a choice menu. In particular, those who had initially felt that PEI was too expensive tended to find it less expensive relative to private insurance, and worth purchasing. A crucial advantage of the above choice architecture is that including additional options helps private insurance companies to develop market activities.earthquake insurance, public insurance, context effects

    e-Factors in e-Agribusiness

    Get PDF
The Internet offers new opportunities for small businesses to conquer new markets and to find better and cheaper suppliers. Internet-based commerce is widely perceived as the new business logic that operates in a world without boundaries; a world characterized by speed, change, interactivity and connectivity. In this global commercial environment, e-business models appear to be the central conceptual component. Information and communication technologies (ICT) are changing the way in which companies trade with their suppliers and customers. The growing complexity of the food sector drives companies to adopt more sophisticated and effective e-business solutions. If we intend to adopt an e-business solution we have to consider more “e-factors” such as technological, individual, organizational, industrial and societal aspects

The Gap between Theory and Action through a Model for Classroom Inquiry

    Get PDF
This paper reports an investigation about lower secondary teacher professional development program in Iran that seventy teachers of mathematics participate on that. In this program, lesson study and action research are used to create a model for classroom inquiry. The first and important purpose of this model was to filling the gap between theory and action. Results of this study show that it is possible to combine lesson study and action research. Finding of this study also show that using the model for classroom inquiry can be helpful in decreasing the gap between theory and action. Finally, paper will be finish by introducing some obstacle that occurred within the accomplishment of the teacher professional development program.

The task complexity and Extraversion: an ERP study

Trying to prove the validity of Eysenck’s theories for the biological basis of personality many data for the differences between extraverts and introverts were collected. It was obtained, that the ERP differences between extraverts and introverts depend on the intensity and frequency of stimulation, but the papers concerning task difficulty dependence are very limited. The purpose of this work was to investigate how the task complexity affects ERP differences between extraverts and introverts. For testing the extraversion we used Eysenck Personality Questionary (EPQ). We recorded EEG under four equal audio series of pseudo-randomized low and high tones. We changed the level of task complexity by different instructions: 1 - passive listening; 2 – answering with the right index finger to the low tone and the left index finger to the high tone; 3 – counting the low tones; 4 – answering with the right index finger to low tones; We averaged stimulus locked ERP across each series and tones for extraverts and introverts separately. It was evident that the ERP differences between extraverts and introverts depend on the task complexity. We found P2, N2 and P3 latency differences and N1, P2, N2 and P3 amplitude differences. As whole extraverts showed larger N2 amplitudes and shorter N2 latencies. The differences were more pronounced in the task supposed less complexity and decreased with the increase of task complexity

The Relationship between School Performance and Students’ Mentality towards School Tasks Accomplishment. Preliminary Study

AbstractIn the specialized literature the issue regarding mentality is analysed in correlation with attitudes. If attitudes regard the individual level, mentalities are characteristic of the community. An attitude may be interpreted as a dimension of personality, reflected in an individual's behaviour towards others, or certain situations. On these lines, the research aims at discussing the issue of the Romanian students’ mentality towards school tasks. The study is based on an cvasiexperimental research conducted on a lot of 200 subjects, students from “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galaƣi, Romania. The results proves that, generally, students retrospect differently to school tasks: some lay stress on the involvement for successful educational outcomes, while others believe that success can be achieved in other ways as well

The development of a hazard map for disaster prevention using augmented reality

    Get PDF
This study, based on the identified shortcomings of previous hazard maps, proposes a new map whose effectiveness is demonstrated through practical experiments. One aim in particular is to provide clear visual information that residents can grasp; that information is visualized using a technical method called “augmented reality” (AR). AR is a form of virtual reality. After AR technology was used to improve certain aspects of the map, an original technique that integrated real scenery with an imagined disaster was proposed. Exposing residents to images of damage and disaster is appropriate, and indeed essential, as it makes it possible for them to realistically imagine what damage and disaster could potentially look like. Furthermore, overlaying damaged scenery onto familiar scenery creates a greater sense of reality for the residents.Eje 1: Dilemas del desarrollo socio-territorial y la planificación urbano-regional frente a los retos de la sustentabilidad.Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanism

The impact of natural and socio-economic conditions change the speech of the Albanian language (case of Albania)

Over the centuries languages creates its own features, such as grammatical structure, phonetics and vocabulary. These elements contain the Albanian language, which ranks among the oldest in Europe. Language, especially spoken language varies not only between nations but also within its own. In the Albanian language there are observed differences between provinces without changing its base, forming dialects. Determinant factors are the natural and socio-economic conditions. Natural conditions (first), especially the relief forms a significant influence on the formation of dialects. Albanian relief is predominantly mountainous, with high mountain ranges, which makes difficult people contacts, causing a relative isolation. This did that the inhabitants of a region with the time pass by speak an Albanian, which has differences with the other provinces. There are seen differences between the speech of Elbasan with that of Lushnjë, etc. The socio-economic poor state of the Albanian succeeded over the years an underdeveloped road and rail infrastructure, while hindering not the less the movement of people from one region to another, especially in mountainous areas. Even loë income did not alloë frequent movement of people and their good education, etc. These factors hinder the ongoing communication of the inhabitants of different regions. The presentation will be illustrated examples of words from several dialects, where accent makes differences in relation to the standard language
