Modelling and simulation of magnetic induction in magnetic particle imaging system

In the last century, tomographic imaging has become an essential tool for disease diagnosis. There are several dominant tomographic imaging methods used for medical application such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)

Dry Small Pleural Dissemination of Adenocarcinoma of the Lung Preoperatively Detected by PET/CT: A Report of Two Cases

Dry pleural dissemination in non-small cell lung cancer, defined as solid pleural metastasis of lung cancer without pleural eff usion, is a condition occurring in T4 lung cancer. Positron emission tomography (PET) has been reported to be useful for the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer. It has been reported that positive findings on PET scans of indeterminate pleural abnormalities at computed tomography (CT) are sensitive to malignancy. We encountered two cases of dry small pleural dissemination of adenocarcinoma of the lung preoperatively detected by PET/CT. A 75-year-old man and a 66-year-old man underwent CT scan, which demonstrated solitary tumor in the lung, an enlarged mediastinal lymph node, and a small pleural nodule less than 10 mm in size, all of which were positive findings on the fluorine 18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET portion of an integrated PET/CT. Both patients underwent thoracoscopic biopsy of the dry pleural nodule revealing dissemination of adenocarcinoma of the lung (T4). Whereas histological thoracoscopic diagnosis remains mandatory before planning treatment, our cases may suggest that PET/CT will be useful as a screening modality for dry pleural dissemination of lung cancer.</p

Experimental study of a liquid Xenon PET prototype module

    Get PDF
A detector using liquid Xenon in the scintillation mode is studied for Positron Emission Tomography (PET). The specific design aims at taking full advantage of the liquid Xenon properties. It does feature a promising insensitive to any parallax effect. This work reports on the performances of the first LXe prototype module, equipped with a position sensitive PMT operating in the VUV range (178 nm).Comment: Proc. of the 7th International Workshops on Radiation Imaging Detectors (IWORID-7), Grenoble, France 4-7 July 200

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) for Flow Measurement

    Get PDF
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is frequently used for medical imaging. Maturity and flexibility of PET as an imaging technique has expanded its utility beyond the medical domain. It can be used as a tool for fluid flow studies in opaque fluids and for flow within complex geometry where conventional optical flow measurement approaches fail. This study explores the capabilities of PET as flow measurement tool suited to validation of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) predictions. The MicroPET P4 scanner was used to image the diffusion process in flow around a rod bundle geometry similar to that found in a nuclear reactor fuel assembly. The PET data are compared with results from COMSOL CFD simulation and dye injection images. PET image resolution, acquisition speed and sensitivity are also examined in the context of flow measurement

ENC Measurement for ASIC Preamp Board as a Detector Module for PET System

    Get PDF
We developed a gamma ray detector with an LuAG:Pr scintillator and  an avalanche photodiode as a detector for a positron emission tomography (PET) system. Studies have been performed on the influences of gamma irradiation on application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) preamp boards used as a detector module. As a device used in nuclear environments for substantial durations, the ASIC has to have a lifetime long enough to ensure that there will be a negligible failure rate during this period. These front-end systems must meet the requirements for standard positron emission tomography (PET) systems. Therefore, an equivalent noise charge (ENC) experiment is needed to measure the front-end system's characteristics. This study showed that minimum ENC conditions can be achieved if a shorter shaping time could be applied. Received: 22 October 2014 ; Revised: 23 Februari 2016; Accepted: 3 March 201

Malignant infarction in cats following prolonged middle cerebral artery occlusion : volumes of severe blood flow reduction predict fatal outcome

    Get PDF
Severity and duration of cerebral blood flow (CBF) reduction are main determinants of injury in core and penumbra zones of focal brain ischemia. To study the putative role and predictive significance of the volume of these zones for induction of a malignant course due to edema formation in large hemispheric stroke, we examined reduction of CBF and oxygen metabolism (CMRO2) by sequential positron emission tomography (PET) in a transient ischemia model in cats that is susceptible to secondary deterioration after reperfusion.peer-reviewe
