Telematics for community portal development.
Community portals emanate from information and communication technology (ICT) applied to community networking, enabling citizens to access information and services on-line. These telematic portal systems are now deployed globally, facilitating information services to geographic and virtual communities. The context of this research study is one of community portals deployed by UK government local authorities for citizen service interactions. To date there have been few studies that holistically and longitudinally examine the subject of community portals. The 5 year research exercise has been undertaken as a qualitative study using an interpretivist approach and methodology derived > from context-process analysis. The approach was influenced by Mumford’s writings on ‘people and technology' and Schuler’s early work on community network development in the USA. Data collection was undertaken using a national survey questionnaire and qualitative techniques including interviews and mini-case studies.
Findings of the research include a new categorisation of community portals into two distinctive types of Civic and Civil portal. Theoretical outcomes include an improved understanding of the methodological, technical, and social dimensions of portal development and deployment. The implications for management include an exposition of the issues involved in community portal development and the important need for citizen engagement in the process. A case study of Blackpool, (and mini case studies of five civic / civil portals), point to lack of collaboration between central and local government portal architects and developers

Considerations regarding the agile development of portals
Starting with methodologies, methods and techniques used generally in the development of information systems, a personal approach regarding quick development of portals has been introduced. After a strict theoretical foundation the proposal has been applied within a real collaborative knowledge portal development project. We consider the proposed agile development approach (based on the prototype technique enriched with MDA valences) suitable to all kind of information systems. A Campus Portal Development Methodology to match Stakeholder Activity
Although introduced less than seven years ago, a Campus Portal (CP) can be considered as an emerging technological innovation within higher education institutions. A large number have already adopted the concept and are currently implementing some type of portal to extend the services of their Web site and information systems to support the activities of institutional stakeholders, especially students. There is some literature recommending sets of characteristics and functionality for successful CPs, in particular personalisation and customisation. However there is a lack of evidence on which aspects of core attributes lead to the failure of a portal to satisfy user requirements in regard to their personalisation and customisation functionality. This paper reports the findings of a CP study and discusses the importance of personalisation and customisation as part of the core set of portal functionalities. These should therefore be considered in the process of CP design and development and be included in any proposed CP Development Methodology (CPDM)
Web Portal Development Issues: Usability, Site Managementand Content Management
This paper is written with the aim to present the concept of integration between
usability, content management and site management in order to design an effective
tourism website. The study is based on the common problems that surrounds most of
the web developers such as useless contents plus poor design that did not reflect the
audience needs and poor site management such as broken links and unsorted web pages
that are hard to be keep track. The study will cover on the application of the usability
techniques to describe what is right and what is wrong with websites seen by millions. It
will also covers on how the site management and content management play important
roles in achieving high usability of the website. Assessing usability through case studies
and following some guidelines on achieving effective site management and good
content management will be part of the methods use in this project. The findings from
this study highlight the importance of these existing guidelines and the need to modify
or implement some of them to suit the requirement of a good tourism website through a
prototype developed in this project
Mobilizing Social and Organizational Resources in Project Type Cooperation
The paper aims at the identification and interpretation of specific coordination problems faced by project-based work organisations using the example of an interactive portal development for a leadingHungarian economic weakly. The study provides a brief overview of the most important theoretical approaches concerning project-based work organisations and the characteristics of the new or interactivemedia sector, which may act as a new model in the fast growing knowledge economy. The interactive portal development is typical of the so-called studio-model of project-based firms (PBF) characterised bythe novel and singular character of the product or service and by the uncertain and fluid nature of the necessary knowledge and skills. The study calls attention to the project manager’s key role in combiningformal and tacit skills and in the coordination of actors’ behaviour which is driven by different logics. In addition, the authors stress the importance of the client’s key role in designing and developing theinteractive media service.

Knowledge management is an increasingly important tools and valuable assets of competitive advantage for organizations. Among these KMS, knowledge portal present the potential to provide the organization with a rich and complex shared knowledge and also support knowledge management life cycle which are; create, storage, disseminate and use. The important aspects in knowledge portal (K-Portal) development are knowledge in zakat and effective K-Portal features. Target users for K-Portal Zakat are internal user (MAINJ Management) and external user (user who interested in knowing zakat). SECI Model and Aneja portal framework with knowledge life cycle by Mertins which are; create, storage, disseminate and use, integrated to identify K-Portal features that effective to give knowledge about zakat to people. The features that have been identify are taxonomy, personalization, collaboration, publishing, portal application, search and workflow. These features are chosen because there are suitable in zakat context. Knowledge based system development life cycle (KBSDLC) methodology is used in K-Portal development. Website Babies Portal: development and evaluation of the contents regarding orofacial functions
Education mediated by technology facilitates the access to information and can reach more people, including a broader range of socio-economic groups and ages, and at a low-cost. The website "Babies Portal - Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology and Dentistry" (http://portaldosbebes.fob.usp.br) was developed to provide parents with information on communication procedure disorders and oral health, enabling them to prevent and identify any changes in development early while looking for the best treatment. Objective: The objective is to describe the development and evaluation of the content pertaining to the oral functions featured in the "Babies Portal". Methods: The first stage consisted of a literature review, development/selection of illustrations and an evaluation of the possible external links that could be available. In the second stage, 10 speech-language and hearing pathologists (group A) and five parents of babies (group B) evaluated the website via an online form, which included ethical and personal information and questions about the quality, technical information and comparative prior knowledge acquired after the access. In the first stage, there was the construction of five sections ("The Oral Functions", "Breastfeeding", "Food", "Pacifier, baby bottle and finger sucking" and "Breath") based on scientific studies, presenting objective information, content links prepared by the Ministry of Health and a Dentistry section in the "Babies Portal" website. Videos, static and dynamic images were also distributed throughout the sections. Results: Regarding the second stage, 90% of all speech-language and hearing pathologists judged a good/excellent quality for all sections and classified the technical quality as very good. By their turn, 88% of the parents (group B) reported that the website helped or helped very much in understanding the contents, and 80% rated the quality as good or excellent. Conclusions: Five sections concerning the oral functions were structured, and the results collected from groups A and B suggest that the content provided is adequate and reliable
