    π+π+\pi^+\pi^+ and π+π\pi^+\pi^- colliding in noncommutative space

    Full text link
    By studying the scattering process of scalar particle pion on the noncommutative scalar quantum electrodynamics, the non-commutative amendment of differential scattering cross-section is found, which is dependent of polar-angle and the results are significantly different from that in the commutative scalar quantum electrodynamics, particularly when cosθ±1\cos\theta\sim \pm 1. The non-commutativity of space is expected to be explored at around ΛNC\Lambda_{NC}\simTeV.Comment: Latex, 12 page

    First Measurement of Chiral Dynamics in \pi^- \gamma -> \pi^- \pi^- \pi^+

    Full text link
    The COMPASS collaboration at CERN has investigated the \pi^- \gamma -> \pi^- \pi^- \pi^+ reaction at center-of-momentum energy below five pion masses, sqrt(s) < 5 m(\pi), embedded in the Primakoff reaction of 190 GeV pions impinging on a lead target. Exchange of quasi-real photons is selected by isolating the sharp Coulomb peak observed at smallest momentum transfers, t' < 0.001 (GeV/c)^2. Using partial-wave analysis techniques, the scattering intensity of Coulomb production described in terms of chiral dynamics and its dependence on the 3\pi-invariant mass m(3\pi) = sqrt(s) were extracted. The absolute cross section was determined in seven bins of s\sqrt{s} with an overall precision of 20%. At leading order, the result is found to be in good agreement with the prediction of chiral perturbation theory over the whole energy range investigated.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figure

    Lambda polarization in pp -> p\Lambda K^+ \pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-

    Full text link
    We show that there is a correlation between the invariant mass of the produced \Lambda K^+, \Lambda K^+\pi^+\pi^- or \Lambda K^+ \pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^- system in the exclusive reaction pp\to p\Lambda K^+\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^- and the longitudinal or transverse momentum of Λ\Lambda. Together with the longitudinal and transverse momentum dependence of Lambda polarization observed in inclusive reactions, such a correlation implies a dependence of Lambda polarization on these invariant masses. The qualitative features of this dependence are consistent with the recent observation by E766 collaboration at BNL. A quantitative estimation has been made using an event generator for pppp collisions. A detailed comparison with the data is made.Comment: 10 pages with 3 figures, submitted to J. Phys.

    Study of the D^0 \to pi^-pi^+pi^-pi^+ decay

    Using data from the FOCUS (E831) experiment at Fermilab, we present new measurements for the Cabibbo-suppressed decay mode D0ππ+ππ+D^0 \to \pi^-\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+. We measure the branching ratio Γ(D0π+ππ+π)/Γ(D0Kπ+ππ+)=0.0914±0.0018±0.0022\Gamma(D^0 \to\pi^+\pi^- \pi^+\pi^-)/\Gamma(D^0 \to K^-\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+) = 0.0914 \pm 0.0018 \pm 0.0022. An amplitude analysis has been performed, a first for this channel, in order to determine the resonant substructure of this decay mode. The dominant component is the decay D0a1(1260)+πD^0 \to a_1(1260)^+ \pi^-, accounting for 60% of the decay rate. The second most dominant contribution comes from the decay D0ρ(770)0ρ(770)0D^0 \to \rho(770)^0\rho(770)^0, with a fraction of 25%. We also study the a1(1260)a_1(1260) line shape and resonant substructure. Using the helicity formalism for the angular distribution of the decay D0ρ(770)0ρ(770)0D^0 \to \rho(770)^0\rho(770)^0, we measure a longitudinal polarization of PL=(71±4±2)P_L = (71 \pm 4\pm 2)%.Comment: 38 pages, 8 figures. accepted for publication in Physical Review

    Power corrections in e+ e- --> pi+ pi-, K+ K- and B --> K pi, pi pi

    CLEO-c measurements of the timelike form factors F_pi, F_K at \sqrt{s}=3.671 GeV provide a direct probe of power corrections (PC's) at energies near m_B. PC's in F_pi, F_K and B \to K pi, pi pi are separated into perturbative and soft parts. In F_pi, F_K the latter are \ge O(10) larger. A PC fit to the B \to K pi, pi pi data also yields a \ge O(10) soft-to-perturbative hierarchy for the QCD penguin PC's. Hence, both can be attributed to dominance of the soft-ovelap between energetic (approximately) back-to-back collinear partons, and consistency of the B\to K pi, pi pi fit with the Standard Model appears to be naturally realized. The CP asymmetries S_{K_s pi^0}, C_{K_s pi^0} are well determined, providing a clean test for new physics.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, version published in Eur. Phys. J. C; elaborated on the connection between power corrections in e+e- ->M1 M2 and the B-> M1 M2 QCD penguin amplitudes; removed speculation that soft-overlaps are much larger for PP than for VP and VV final states, this is not supported by a new analysis in preparatio

    Study of reaction pi- A --> pi+pi-pi- A at VES setup

    The results on partial wave analysis of 3pi system produced at beam momentum 36.6 GeV/c on beryllium target are presented. New method of amplitude analysis is suggested -- extraction of largest eigenvalue of density matrix. Exotic wave with JPC = 1-+ in rho pi system is studied in four t' regions. No narrow object around M = 1.6 GeV is found. Unusually steep t'-dependence for pi(1300) object is detected.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, LaTeX2e, aipproc class, to be published in the proceedings of the IX international Conference on Hadron Spectroscopy, HADRON2001, 25 august - 1 september, Protvino, Russi
