Evolution of the dipole polarizability in the stable tin isotope chain

The dipole polarizability of stable even-mass tin isotopes 112,114,116,118,120,124 was extracted from inelastic proton scattering experiments at 295 MeV under very forward angles performed at RCNP. Predictions from energy density functionals cannot account for the present data and the polarizability of 208Pb simultaneously. The evolution of the polarizabilities in neighboring isotopes indicates a kink at 120Sn while all model results show a nearly linear increase with mass number after inclusion of pairing corrections.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, submitted to Phys. Optical third harmonic generation in black phosphorus

We present a calculation of Third Harmonic Generation (THG) for two-band systems using the length gauge that avoids unphysical divergences otherwise present in the evaluation of the third order current density response. The calculation is applied to bulk and monolayer black Phosphorus (bP) using a non-orthogonal tight-binding model. Results show that the low energy response is dominated by mixed inter-intraband processes and estimates of the magnitude of THG susceptibility are comparable to recent experimental reports for bulk bP samples.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure

Testing Market Integration for Fresh Pineapples in Kenya

This paper is based on a survey of thirty-one market actors from producing and consumption markets in Kenya. The data was collected through personal interviews. In analyzing integration of p ineapple markets we use Ravallion-type model. Results show that pineapple market in Kenya is oligopsonistic in nature with aspects of collusion amongst the urban middlemen and local market traders thus barring further entry by oth er potential actors. There was little market integration between urban markets and producing markets, and no integration between the rural producing markets. However, model results show that information flow between production and consumption markets significantly influence market integration, an indicator for efficiency in resource allocation and price transmission which is likely to result in lower transaction costs or higher profits to market actors. Testing Onion Market Integration in Pakistan

This paper analyses spatial market integration using monthly wholesale real price of onion in four regional markets located in each of the four provinces of Pakistan. Unit root test indicates that the price series in each location are stationary, and the series are represented as autoregressive model for eachlocation. The error correction model results show that the regional markets of onion have strong price linkages, and thus are spatially integrated.

THE STRUCTURE OF CITIZEN PREFERENCES FOR GOVERNMENT SOIL EROSION CONTROL PROGRAMS

The 1990 Farm Bill contains several measures concerning soil erosion caused by U.S. farmers. Data from a nationwide survey of people concerning their attitudes toward agriculture were used to examine the structure of respondents' preferences for government support-policies to combat soil erosion. Estimates of the influence of socio-economic and demographic variables on policy preferences were computed using a multiple-indicator model. CREDIT SCORING, LOAN PRICING, AND FARM BUSINESS PERFORMANCE

In light of recent developments in agricultural credit evaluations, this study employs a multiperiod simulation model that endogenizes farm investment decisions, credit evaluations, and loan pricing based on the credit scoring procedures of agricultural lender. Model results show that credit-scored pricing yields time patterns of performance, credits classifications, and interest rates that parallel the firmÂ’s investment, financing, and debt servicing activities. The Effect of School Quality on Residential Sales Price

This study seeks to find the extent to which various measures of public school quality are capitalized into house prices after the No Child Left Behind Act (2001). Individual residential sales in Cuyahoga County, Ohio for 2000 and 2005 are analyzed as to the effect of school quality using regression analysis with a spatial error model. Results show that while all school quality measures tested have some explanatory power, school district ratings and performance index, which are comprehensive measures of school quality, are the most appropriate measures and are readily capitalized into housing prices.
