Development of query language for retrieval, integration and presentation of data

    Get PDF
The aim of this work was to improve the system Algator in the part, which deals with the analysis and presentation of data. First, we compared some query languages to find the most suitable for use in the system Algator. Algator stores data in a specific format, and the data are always combined in the same fashion. Therefore, special query language is more suitable because it can take advantage of these properties. We determined the simplified syntax of SQL and used in the system Algator. User interface and converter from JSON format to a simplified SQL and vice versa has been developed. Execution of queries has been optimized because some inquiries run too long. Functionality of calculated fields has been added, which allows to add additional fields that are calculated from other fields

Characteristics of exonym use in selected European languages

    Get PDF
This article discusses linguistic and geographical aspects of the frequency of exonym use in selected European languages. In addition to true exonyms, exographs and exophones are presented. Frequency is discussed by individual languages and, within these, by appertaining countries and the semantic types of adapted foreign geographical names. In addition, certain typical concepts of exonym use are presented with an emphasis on how they are written

    Slavic-Albanian Language Contact: Lexicon

    Get PDF
This paper examines the nature of Slavic and Albanian historical interactions on the basis of three approaches to lexical borrowings: Frans van Coetsem’s (1988/2000) concepts of borrowing and imposition, scales of borrowability as found in Thomason and Kaufman (1988), and Friedman and Joseph’s (2014) notion of ERIC loans (Essentially Rooted in Communication). By examining the geographic and semantic spread of vocabulary borrowed, Slavic appears to have had a greater influence in terms of geography and quantity of borrowings, while Albanian has also contributed words for kin and other categories likely borrowed under intense or prolonged contact, suggesting rich and diverse interactions that have occurred under a variety of circumstances, including times of peaceful coexistence

Floating point in a purely functional language

    Get PDF
The floating-point, its presentation, IEEE 754 standards, special values, rounding modes, and some problems with its implementation are presented: The Table Maker's Dilemma and Round-trip conversions. Arbitrary fixed precision floating-point is an extension of floating-point implemented in Multiple Precision Floating-Point Reliable Library (MPFR). Working towards an interface for a purely functional language, Haskell as a representative is introduced. For an efficient implementation good knowledge of one of its implementation -- GHC -- is needed, especially how memory management is done and how low-level stages of the compiler are implemented. Last, the interface for the GHC and its benchmark with C implementation is presented

Possible Mutual Influences in the Prosody of Slovene Speech and Slovene Folk Songs

    Get PDF
The article tackles the popular topic of the potential interaction of music and language by comparing the prosody of Slovene speech and the melodic and rhythmic properties of the Slovene folk song. The study shows potential connections between tonemicity and interval range, the predictability of word stress and rhythmic accent, and different dialects and their musical traditions. The article thus presents a preliminary study of potential similarities between a specific language and music. Although, due to a lack of research for other languages, it is difficult to guarantee that the results are not coincidental, the study presents a promising first attempt at such a comparison

INTERFERENZE SINTATTICHE ROMANZE NELLE PARLATE SLOVENE OCCIDENTALI

    Get PDF

Lexicalisation Patterns of Rendering Path Descriptions in Polish Translation from English

    Get PDF
The article pertains to the powerful bi-categorial typology of languages developed by Talmy. The researcher generally points at satellite-framed languages and verb-framed languages in terms of conflating the semantic component of path, either to a satellite placed near a manner verb or to a verb root. Slobin expanded that typology by introducing a class of equipollently framed languages. English and Polish are both satellite-framed languages. Nonetheless, while English colloquially expresses ideas with constructions lexicalising precise path through satellites, Polish translation renders the path, neutralises it, changes it, or omits the path conveyed by the original version, which is illustrated by this paper

Making a thematic web portal with an interactive map

    Get PDF
The thesis describes the making of a web portal containing an interactive map. The main objective of the portal is to balance and logically connect the text and the images with the dynamic spatial display of the same topic. To achieve a fluid dynamic transgression between various kinds of display only dynamic subpage opening is used, via the Ajax method. Described is also the problematic of the display of content of dynamic pages in different web browsers, and several solutions to the problem. The overview, preparation and methods of displaying spatial data in web form are also described in the thesis
