Livingstone versus Serota: the High-rise Battle of Bankside

In 2001, plans were unveiled by a private developer for a 32-storey residential tower next to the Tate Gallery of Modern Art in Bankside. Although not the tallest building proposed within London's high-rise landscape, this tower became a minor cause célèbre within the city's media. The twists and turns involved in attempts to win — and oppose — planning permission for the building are charted in this paper. Yet, the vociferous battle involved does not reveal distinct political and social fault-lines. MANADO PRESS TOWER (High-rise Building dengan Pendekatan Ekspresi Struktur)

Kebutuhan informasi bagi masyarakat mendasari perancangan sebuah bangunan kantor pers yang mewadahi kegiatan jurnalistik. Keuntungan yang diperoleh Perusahaan-Perusahaan yang bergerak dibidang pers pun tidak perlu diragukan lagi dengan melihat contoh-contoh Perusahaan lokal maupun Internasional yang memperoleh keuntungan yang besar. Oleh karena itu, penulis mengangkat tema High-rise Building dengan pendekatan ekspresi struktur, dimana ketinggian bangunan sangat menunjang bagi proses transmisi informasi dan penyiaran oleh kantor pers. Sistem bangunan tinggi yang sangat memperhatikan penggunaan struktur pun dimanfaatkan untuk merancang bangunan tinggi dengan bentuk-bentuk struktural yang tidak monoton, namun dapat berekspresi.Proses perancangan objek tersebut menggunakan proses desain generasi II menurut John Zeisel yang terdiri dari dua fase. Fase pertama, yaitu pengkajian terhadap tipologi objek, tapak, dan lingkungan serta tema yang diangkat. Ketiga data tersebut dianalisa dan menciptakan sinkronisasi yang baik antara objek, tema, dan tapak. Dilanjutkan dengan fase kedua, yaitu siklus Image-Present-Test, dimana siklus yang keluar dievaluasi berdasarkan kriteria perancangan dari teori Geofrey Broadbent kemudian berlanjut ke siklus II dan seterusnya sebagai upaya untuk menutupi kekurangan kualitas desain siklus sebelumnya.Gubahan bentuk Manado Press Tower memiliki konsep bentuk yang diputar untuk menciptakan bentuk aerodinamis dengan struktur diagrid yang membungkus bangunan sebagai aplikasi dari tema, yaitu High-rise Building dengan pendekatan ekspresi struktur

The authors of this report are undergraduate Architectural Engineering students at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. This report documents their experience in an interdisciplinary studio of high‐rise building design and the process by which they produced a schematic design of a high‐rise residential building in San Francisco. Seismic vulnerability assessment and evaluation of high rise buildings in Islamabad

Primarily the aim of this research is to carry out seismic evaluation study of buildings structures in Islamabad in order to propose basic guidelines and suggestions for Pakistan Code. Knowing the important nature of the subject, the earthquake based organizations are serious to compile a document for seismic threatened countries and areas. It is aimed that the document will work as a guideline source for the seismic evaluation, calculation and assessment of strength, behavior and expected performance and also the safety of already existing buildings. This study is based on review of already available documents on seismic vulnerability and evaluation of present buildings at different sites is carried out in order to know the key components of this very procedure so that it can be used in Pakistan and also in other developing countries as well. This would not only be robust, safe and reliable, but also can be convenient to use within the domain of available resources. ASCE 31-03 guidelines among the available documents are considered to be a suitable and the most reliable for to be in Pakistan
