The use of dynamic biometric methods for the authentication of people provides significantly greater security than the use of the static ones. The variance of individual dynamic properties of a person, which protects biometric methods against attacks, can be the weak point of these methods at the same time. This paper summarizes the results of a long-term research, which shows that a DBS demonstrates practically absolute resistance to forging and that the stability of signatures provided by test subjects in various situations is high. Factors such as alcohol and stress have no influence on signature stability, either. The results of the experiments showed that the handwritten signature obtained through long practice and the consolidation of the dynamic stereotype, is so automated and stored so deep in the human brain, that its involuntary performance also allows other processes to take place in the cerebral cortex. The dynamic stereotype is composed of psychological, anatomical and motor characteristics of each person. It was also proven to be true that the use of different devices did not have a major impact on the stability of signatures, which is of importance in the case of a blanket deployment. The carried out experiments conclusively showed that the aspects that could have an impact on the stability of a signature did not manifest themselves in such a way that we could not trust these methods even used on commercially available devices. In the conclusion of the paper, the possible directions of research are suggested

Signature is one of the biometrics that are widely used for important document authentication and verification. The existence of a signature as a form of validation and approval in important documents is mandatory. Along in current sophisticated technological developments, signing can be done using digital media such as cellphones or other media. The ability of the system that can be identify a person signature is important. This research aims to implement the Laplacian edge detection method and Euclidean distance to identify a person signature. The total image that used is 20 signatures from 5 different people while 15 signatures as data training image and 5 signatures as a data test image. The result of this research indicate that Laplacian edge detection method and Euclidean distance have an accuracy of 94% with 1 neighbor, with 2 neighbor has an accuracy of 60% and has an accuracy of 74% with 3 neighbor.

The collection of signature data for system development and evaluation generally requires significant time and effort. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a detector generation based clonal selection algorithm for synthetic signature set generation. The goal of synthetic signature generation is to improve the performance of signature verification by providing more training samples. Our method uses the clonal selection algorithm to maintain the diversity of the overall set and avoid sparse feature distribution. The algorithm firstly generates detectors with a segmented r-continuous bits matching rule and P-receptor editing strategy to provide a more wider search space. Then the clonal selection algorithm is used to expand and optimize the overall signature set. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our clonal selection algorithm, and the experiments show that adding the synthetic training samples can improve the performance of signature verification

Masters Degree. University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban. The aim of this study is to analyse the different opinions, draw up a balance, and determine the impact of biometrics on users that are using it as their IT security control, especially in financial systems that are used at KZN Provincial Treasury viz Basic Accounting System and Persal. It outlines the strengths and weaknesses, as well as discover the theoretical or conceptual frameworks to be used to examine this phenomenon. This study will assist in enabling to determine impact of using the Biometrics security technology on employees of the KZN Treasury. Today biometrics has been successfully deployed in various fields like security, identification and authorization system. Biometrics fingerprint has gained significant importance in this technical world for analysing of biological data. Biometrics is a technology that is used for analysing person characters based on physiological traits such as the face, fingerprint, iris, retina, voice, signature, etc. The KZN Treasury introduced biometrics systems to increase security on Basic Accounting System and Persal. Biometrics serves as a crucial point to resolve issues relating to personal identification and verification technology. The Biometrics fingerprint is used to establish one’s identity in order to minimize fraud within Government Departments. It ensures that acceptable access measures are implemented to protect crucial systems by providing secured access control. The biometrics system at KZN Treasury prevents information loss and unauthorised access and ensures that adequate non-repudiation measures are implemented. It also gives an audit trail of sensitive transactions with the information kept in a secured and protected database. The quantitative method is used for collecting data. The research tool used was a questionnaire with three groups of participants the managers, enrolment officers and employees or users. The five-point Likert scale questionnaire is used to gather the relevant data for analysis and interpretation as well as drawing relevant conclusions and recommendations. The findings in this study were analysed in detail to be able to produce a precise data analysis. The conclusion of the study is that the use of the Biometrics security system has created a good impact on the work performance of the employees of the KZN Treasury. It seems that most of the respondents believe that Biometrics has had a significant and positive effect on the level of work performance. This study only touches on four areas of Biometrics, which are Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use (user satisfaction and organizational impact), Influencing Factors and Technology and Security. This study is not aimed to cover a full and detailed list of biometric techniques
