The U.S. Navy anticipates moving to a shipboard high-energy laser program of record in the fiscal year 2018 and achieving an initial operational capability by 2020. The design of a distance support capability within the high-energy laser system was expected to assist the Navy in reaching this goal. This capstone project explored the current Navy architecture for distance support and applied system engineering methodologies to develop a conceptual distance support framework with application to the high-energy laser system. A model and simulation of distance support functions were developed and used to analyze the feasibility in terms of performance, cost, and risk. Results of this capstone study showed that the implementation of distance support for the high-energy laser system is feasible and would reduce the total ownership cost over the life of the program. Furthermore, the capstone shows that moving toward the team’s recommended distance support framework will address current gaps in the Navy distance support architecture and will provide a methodology tailored to modern enterprise naval systems.http://archive.org/details/distancesupporti1094545248Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited

Distance Support Services: Defining, Discussing, and Determining Future Roles

Introduction: With over 6 million students now taking at least one course online, higher education is significantly shifting educational and outreach approaches (The Sloan Consortium, 2011). This trend is particularly strong in the medical field, as “fully online health sciences programs show higher growth than online programs in other disciplines” (The Sloan Consortium, 2011). To meet these emerging needs, library support must now occur via Learning Management Systems, Guides, Tutorials, and Websites. In parallel with the education trends, telemedicine consultations are becoming options more readily available to patients and practitioners making online learning and collaboration a professional skill. In early 2013, a Distance Support SIG informally developed a network to discuss issues and professional development around this topic. Informal membership formed around a self-managed listserv. Other Sections with interest in the topic, such as NAHRS and EMTS, were identified. However, a clear profile of participants supporting distance programs, what types of distance programs, and professional development needs were unclear. Methods: To better identify the positions, types of libraries, and needs of SIG participants, the researchers developed a short survey distributed to the informal distance support listserv via Qualtrics. After talks with EMTS and the decision to merge the Distance Support SIG with EMTS, the survey was redistributed to EMTS members via the EMTS listserv. The second survey ran in RedCAP. Given the change in participant pool and the merging of the Distance Support SIG with EMTS, some questions were revised

In this paper we present the results of using an interactive geometrical environment, regarding the acquisition of certain mathematical skills by deaf students (12-16 years old). Communication and variability skills are analyzed when the class is organized using computer distance support. We present the main trends of the experiences and formative regulation assessment perspective. In this paper we present the results of using an interactive geometrical environment, regarding the acquisition of certain mathematical skills by deaf students (12-16 years old). As society becomes more modern, the economic and social significance of teleworking is increasing. This trend has been particularly accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Teleworking, as distance education/learning, has also been applied in the education system. However, there are limitations to such work, one of which is the loss of communication between teachers and students. School educators are in need of emotional resources and resilience when working remotely. There is a lack of targeted distance support programmes for teachers. Aim of the study. To investigate the effectiveness of the Teacher Distance Resilience Support Programme. Study participants. 161 teachers from different schools in Lithuania, Latvia and Slovakia. Methodology. Feedback questionnaire for the Teacher Resilience Support Programme (Svence, 2022); supervision of the training programme and focus group. Results. Relatively high Cronbach alpha values for the questionnaire modules were established. It was found that teachers in the whole sample have a positive perception of the effectiveness of the distance support training programme. Statistically significant differences were found in evaluations of individual modules submitted by teachers from Lithuania, Latvia, and Slovakia. The age and experience of teachers did not show statistically significant difference. Conclusions. Teachers in all the three countries have positive perceptions of the effectiveness of the distance support programme based on the feedback questionnaire and the supervision and focus group. In order to strengthen the resilience of teachers who work distance, it is recommended that the remote support programme is applied in school communities and included in teacher training studies.publishersversionPeer reviewe
