Electroneutrality Breakdown and Specific Ion Effects in Nanoconfined Aqueous Electrolytes Observed by NMR

    Get PDF
Ion distribution in aqueous electrolytes near the interface plays critical roles in electrochemical, biological and colloidal systems and is expected to be particularly significant inside nanoconfined regions. Electroneutrality of the total charge inside nanoconfined regions is commonly assumed a priori in solving ion distribution of aqueous electrolytes nanoconfined by uncharged hydrophobic surfaces with no direct experimental validation. Here, we use a quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance approach to investigate the properties of aqueous electrolytes nanoconfined in graphitic-like nanoporous carbon. Substantial electroneutrality breakdown in nanoconfined regions and very asymmetric responses of cations and anions to the charging of nanoconfining surfaces are observed. The electroneutrality breakdown is shown to depend strongly on the propensity of anions toward the water-carbon interface and such ion-specific response follows generally the anion ranking of the Hofmeister series. The experimental observations are further supported by numerical evaluation using the generalized Poisson-Boltzmann equationComment: 26 pages, 3 figure

An Urban Traffic Flow Fusion Network Based on a Causal Spatiotemporal Graph Convolution Network

Traffic flow prediction is an important part of intelligent transportation systems. In recent years, most methods have considered only the feature relationships of spatial dimensions of traffic flow data, and ignored the feature fusion of spatial and temporal aspects. Traffic flow has the features of periodicity, nonlinearity and complexity. There are many relatively isolated points in the nodes of traffic flow, resulting in the features usually being accompanied by high-frequency noise. The previous methods directly used the graph convolution network for feature extraction. A polynomial approximation graph convolution network is essentially a convolution operation to enhance the weight of high-frequency signals, which lead to excessive high-frequency noise and reduce prediction accuracy to a certain extent. In this paper, a deep learning framework is proposed for a causal gated low-pass graph convolution neural network (CGLGCN) for traffic flow prediction. The full convolution structure adopted by the causal convolution gated linear unit (C-GLU) extracts the time features of traffic flow to avoid the problem of long running time associated with recursive networks. The reduction of running parameters and running time greatly improved the efficiency of the model. The new graph convolution neural network with self-designed low-pass filter was able to extract spatial features, enhance the weight of low-frequency signal features, suppress the influence of high-frequency noise, extract the spatial features of each node more comprehensively, and improve the prediction accuracy of the framework. Several experiments were carried out on two real-world real data sets. Compared with the existing models, our model achieved better results for short-term and long-term prediction.© 2022 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. 3D Object Detection Algorithm Based on the Reconstruction of Sparse Point Clouds in the Viewing Frustum

    Get PDF
In response to the problem that the detection precision of the current 3D object detection algorithm is low when the object is severely occluded, this study proposes an object detection algorithm based on the reconstruction of sparse point clouds in the viewing frustum. The algorithm obtains more local feature information of the sparse point clouds in the viewing frustum through dimensional expansion, performs the fusion of local and global feature information of the point cloud data to obtain point cloud data with more complete semantic information, and then applies the obtained data to the 3D object detection task. The experimental results show that the precision of object detection in both 3D view and BEV (Bird’s Eye View) can be improved effectively through the algorithm, especially object detection of moderate and hard levels when the object is severely occluded. In the 3D view, the average precision of the 3D detection of cars, pedestrians, and cyclists at a moderate level can be increased by 7.1p.p., 16.39p.p., and 5.42p.p., respectively; in BEV, the average precision of the 3D detection of car, pedestrians, and cyclists at hard level can be increased by 6.51p.p., 16.57p.p., and 7.18p.p., respectively, thus indicating the effectiveness of the algorithm.© 2022 Xing Xu et al. Initiation of breastfeeding and prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding at hospital discharge in urban, suburban and rural areas of Zhejiang China

    Get PDF
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Rates of exclusive breastfeeding in China are relatively low and below national targets. The aim of this study was to document the factors that influence exclusive breastfeeding initiation in Zhejiang, PR China.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A cohort study of infant feeding practices was undertaken in Zhejiang Province, an eastern coastal region of China. A total of 1520 mothers who delivered in four hospitals located in city, suburb and rural areas during late 2004 to 2005 were enrolled in the study. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to explore factors related to exclusive breastfeeding initiation.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>On discharge from hospital, 50.3% of the mothers were exclusively breastfeeding their infants out of 96.9% of the mothers who had earlier initiated breastfeeding. Exclusive breastfeeding was positively related to vaginal birth, baby's first feed being breast milk, mother living in the suburbs or rural areas, younger age of mother, lower maternal education level and family income.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The exclusive breastfeeding rate in Zhejiang is only 50.3% on discharge and does not reach Chinese or international targets. A number of behaviours have been identified in the study that could be potentially incorporated into health promotion activities.</p

Breastfeeding Practice in Zhejiang Province, PR China, in the Context of Melamine-contaminated Formula Milk

    Get PDF
A prospective cohort study of 1,520 mothers from Zhejiang province of China was undertaken to determine the duration of breastfeeding and associated factors during the first six months postpartum. Most (95.3%) mothers had introduced complementary foods by six months, making them at risk from contaminated infant formula. The mean duration of ‘any breastfeeding’ was greater than 180 days but only 48 days for ‘exclusive breastfeeding’. Factors relating to cessation of any breastfeeding were maternal age, timing of the breastfeeding decision, admission of the infant to a special-care nursery, return of the mother to work, the early introduction of water and/or other complementary foods, and their location of residence. The introduction of infant formula before three months was positively associated with the late decision to breastfeed, births in city, and infants being given a prelacteal feed. To combat the melamine disaster, strategies to improve the duration of breastfeeding must be developed taking these factors into account

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Breastfeeding is the basis for appropriate nutrition for infants and is strongly supported by the Ministry of Health in China. However, there are differences in infant feeding practices in different areas of the country. The aim of this study was to compare the infant feeding practices and the prevalence of determinants of initiation and continuing to breastfeed until six months of age in city, suburb and rural areas in Zhejiang Province, PRC.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A longitudinal cohort study of infant feeding practices was undertaken in city, suburban and rural areas in 2004/2005. Mothers were recruited and interviewed before discharge from hospitals. A total of 1520 mothers were recruited into the study. Follow-up interviews were administered at 1, 3 and 6 months after birth to obtain details of infant feeding practices.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>'Any breastfeeding' rates were high before discharge at all three locations, 96.5% in city, 96.8% in suburb and 97.4% in the rural area. The 'exclusive breastfeeding' rates in the city, suburban and rural areas before discharge were 38.0%, 63.4% and 61.0% respectively. By sixth months the 'any breastfeeding' rates had declined to 62.8%, 76.9% and 83.6% and the 'exclusive breastfeeding' rates had fallen to 0.2%, 0.5% and 7.2% in city, suburb and rural areas respectively. There were differences in feeding practices between the three locations, including the use of prelacteal feeds and the introduction of supplementary feeds.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Mothers who lived in the city were least likely to be 'exclusive breastfeeding' at discharge. At six months the city infants also had lower rates of 'any breastfeeding' and 'exclusive breastfeeding'.</p

We report the case of a 55-year-old man with penile squamous cell car- cinoma (SCC). We found a mass in the patient’s penis, which gradually increased in size. We performed a partial penectomy to remove the mass. Histopathology revealed a highly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA was detected by polymerase chain reaction. HPV was found to be pres- ent in the squamous cell carcinoma, and sequencing analysis showed that it was type 58

The title compound, [Cd(C11H5N2O2)2(H2O)2], is a mononuclear complex consisting of a CdII atom, two 3-hydroxy-4,5-diazafluoren-9-one ligands and two coordinated water molecules. The CdII atom, lying on a twofold axis, displays a distorted octahedral coordintion. Adjacent molecules are linked by O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds and π–π interactions [centroid–centroid distance = 3.84 (1) Å], leading to a one-dimensional chain. Weak C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds connect the chains into a two-dimensional supramolecular structure

Detecting differences across multiple instances of code clones

Clone detectors find similar code fragments (i.e., instances of code clones) and report large numbers of them for industrial systems. To maintain or manage code clones, developers often have to in-vestigate differences of multiple cloned code fragments. However, existing program differencing techniques compare only two code fragments at a time. Developers then have to manually combine several pairwise differencing results. In this paper, we present an approach to automatically detecting differences across multiple clone instances. We have implemented our approach as an Eclipse plugin and evaluated its accuracy with three Java software systems. Our evaluation shows that our algorithm has precision over 97.66% and recall over 95.63 % in three open source Java projects. We also conducted a user study of 18 developers to evaluate the use-fulness of our approach for eight clone-related refactoring tasks. Our study shows that our approach can significantly improve de-velopers ’ performance in refactoring decisions, refactoring details, and task completion time on clone-related refactoring tasks. Au-tomatically detecting differences across multiple clone instances also opens opportunities for building practical applications of code clones in software maintenance, such as auto-generation of appli-cation skeleton, intelligent simultaneous code editing
