Cesare e la retorica greca
This paper is going to analyze a passage of the Praeceptum deliberativae materiae, a rhetorical text written by Emporius in V/VI century A.D., where Caesar is claimed to be Graecae exercitationis expers; such a so strange definition has its roots in the controversy of the populares against the Hellenization of the nobilitas: from a popularis perspective the real vir Romanus had to prefer the military skill to the rhetorical one, as C.Marius had done, and had to acquire his rhetorical skill in Latin, non in Greek, as the Rhetorica ad Herennium advised. Then being Graecae exercitationis expers was a quality requested to a leader of the populares, as Caesar wanted to be recognized, and we can retrace its origin in the literary propaganda of the Caesarian party, above all in Sallust’s Bellum Iugurthinum and in the Anticato of Caesar himself.
Cesare: commentarii, historiae, vitae
Conservazione dell’architettura funeraria etrusca.
The problematic nature of Etruscan funerary architecture conservation due to the peculiar environmental conditions consisting of underground positions with flows of visitors represents a typical aim of the archaeological restoration The study case should be considered as emblematic for the iconographic relevance of the gentilitial etruscan tomb, of late orientalizing or archaic age, and for the particular physical nature of the hypogeum which is entirely excavated in a granodiorite rockmass in the center of Marciana village (Isola d 'Elba). The documental uniqueness of the hypogeum, currently under final determination, and the exceptional nature of the environment of the ancient site as well as the necessary radical measures to safeguard and specific intervention of consolidation and restoration are described from multiple viewpoints. In addition to the aspects relating to the conservation problems, the cruciform plan chronology of this extraordinary hypogeum was taken in account
DXP: Billing Data Preparation for Big Data Analytics
In this paper, we present the data preparation activities that we performed
for the Digital Experience Platform (DXP) project, commissioned and supervised
by Doxee S.p.A.. DXP manages the billing data of the users of different
companies operating in various sectors (electricity and gas, telephony, pay TV,
etc.). This data has to be processed to provide services to the users (e.g.,
interactive billing), but mainly to provide analytics to the companies (e.g.,
churn prediction or user segmentation). We focus on the design of the data
preparation pipeline, describing the challenges that we had to overcome in
order to get the billing data ready to perform analysis on it. We illustrate
the lessons learned by highlighting the key points that could be transferred to
similar projects. Moreover, we report some interesting results and
considerations derived from the preliminary analysis of the prepared data, also
pointing out some possible future directions for the ongoing project, spacing
from big data integration to privacy-preserving temporal record linkage
Association of kidney disease measures with risk of renal function worsening in patients with type 1 diabetes
Background: Albuminuria has been classically considered a marker of kidney damage progression in diabetic patients and it is routinely assessed to monitor kidney function. However, the role of a mild GFR reduction on the development of stage 653 CKD has been less explored in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients. Aim of the present study was to evaluate the prognostic role of kidney disease measures, namely albuminuria and reduced GFR, on the development of stage 653 CKD in a large cohort of patients affected by T1DM. Methods: A total of 4284 patients affected by T1DM followed-up at 76 diabetes centers participating to the Italian Association of Clinical Diabetologists (Associazione Medici Diabetologi, AMD) initiative constitutes the study population. Urinary albumin excretion (ACR) and estimated GFR (eGFR) were retrieved and analyzed. The incidence of stage 653 CKD (eGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2) or eGFR reduction > 30% from baseline was evaluated. Results: The mean estimated GFR was 98 \ub1 17 mL/min/1.73m2 and the proportion of patients with albuminuria was 15.3% (n = 654) at baseline. About 8% (n = 337) of patients developed one of the two renal endpoints during the 4-year follow-up period. Age, albuminuria (micro or macro) and baseline eGFR < 90 ml/min/m2 were independent risk factors for stage 653 CKD and renal function worsening. When compared to patients with eGFR > 90 ml/min/1.73m2 and normoalbuminuria, those with albuminuria at baseline had a 1.69 greater risk of reaching stage 3 CKD, while patients with mild eGFR reduction (i.e. eGFR between 90 and 60 mL/min/1.73 m2) show a 3.81 greater risk that rose to 8.24 for those patients with albuminuria and mild eGFR reduction at baseline. Conclusions: Albuminuria and eGFR reduction represent independent risk factors for incident stage 653 CKD in T1DM patients. The simultaneous occurrence of reduced eGFR and albuminuria have a synergistic effect on renal function worsening
This paper aims to analyze the Roman sumptuary legislation between IIIrd and Ist century BC; in this topics Sulla’s intervention represents a turning point: for more than a century the nobilitas had been promoting measures against luxury, but from Sulla’s viewpoint luxury was a value to be spread; among the aristocrats of the post-Sullan generation Metellus Pius, Lucullus and Hortalus are three examples of a life style inspired by uoluptas as a virtue. Caesar embodied the angry reaction of the populares and moreover of the Italici against these behavior patterns, perceived as too Hellenistic and opposite to the mos maiorum
" Late Antiquity: Periodizations of a Dark and Happy Age ".
This paper is concerned with the development of the idea of “Later Empire/ late antiquity” since Ch. Le Beau until us ; special care is devoted to J. B. Bury’s thought, to A. Piganiol’s definition of Christian empire, to S. Mazzarino’s definition of Constantinian age, to the arguments of A. Giardina et recent British scholarship against P. Brown’s social and cultural interpretation of late antiquity. Religious perspective proves to be deciding in containing late antiquity between Constantine and Muhammad.
