Composite structures and materials are used in aerospace, marine and automotive applications due to their light weight characteristics. By using rice husk ash (RHA) as natural binder to replace epoxy resin, it improves the characteristic of the composite laminated structure. Rice husk has become an important ingredient in silica, silicon carbide, and silicon nitride because of its high a silicon content. This paper evaluates the performance of laminated composite plate in a drop-weight impact testing. Two plates are attached to the test rig in the particular desired impact orientation. The main advantages of this process are the plates provide more realistic drop-weight impact and data. Data from the impact test was collected and analysed to evaluate the material properties of epoxy resin and RHA. Results show RHA's energy absorption is better and it has more deformation to prevent structure failures compared with epoxy resin. This paper aims to evaluate the application of RHA as a geopolymer binder and flax fibre as an alternative material to glass fibre in the composites industry

Hypersexuality in a rape victim child

Hypersexuality is rare in children. Our case describes a 14-year-old girl who presented with a history suggestive of hypersexuality. She was repeatedly raped and exposed to video pornography at a very young age. Consequently, she became addicted to pleasure during sexual intercourse and actively involved in multiple unprotected sexual intercourses. Management, in this case, was challenging, where early intervention with contraceptive methods and cognitive behavioural therapy were unsuccessful. Subsequently, alternative treatment with Islamic psycho-spiritual therapy combined with conventional therapy resulted in an improvement in her sexual pre-occupation. This case highlights the importance of recognition of hypersexuality, especially among children with a history of sexual abuse as management proofs to be challenging, and requires a multimodal approach to prevent a potentially devastating outcome

Changes in the reproductive hormones of non-pregnant does infected intradermally with corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis in chronic form

    Get PDF
Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis is the causative agent of caseous lymphadenitis (CLA), a common disease in small ruminant populations across the globe. The disease remains as a major disease causing economic loss to the owners. There is little information related to the effect of this disease towards reproductive performance of the animal when the disease occurs in chronic form. This study analyzes the changes of the reproductive hormones in non-pregnant does infected chronically with Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis via intradermal route. Eighteen non-pregnant healthy Katjang does aged 2 years old were divided randomly into two groups. The first and second groups consist of nine does each and were kept for 3 consecutive months. The first group was experimentally inoculated with 1 ml of 107 cfu of live Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis through intradermal route while the second group was inoculated with 1 ml PBS (pH 7) solution intradermally. Serum samples were collected every 3 days for 3 consecutive months from each group post infection via jugular venipuncture for reproductive hormone analyses. Present study indicates a decrement in progesterone concentration but shows an increment in estradiol profile throughout 3 months post-infection. The present results therefore indicate hormonal imbalance due to chronicity of Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis in affected does

Impact of opioid-free analgesia on pain severity and patient satisfaction after discharge from surgery: multispecialty, prospective cohort study in 25 countries

Background: Balancing opioid stewardship and the need for adequate analgesia following discharge after surgery is challenging. This study aimed to compare the outcomes for patients discharged with opioid versus opioid-free analgesia after common surgical procedures. Methods: This international, multicentre, prospective cohort study collected data from patients undergoing common acute and elective general surgical, urological, gynaecological, and orthopaedic procedures. The primary outcomes were patient-reported time in severe pain measured on a numerical analogue scale from 0 to 100% and patient-reported satisfaction with pain relief during the first week following discharge. Data were collected by in-hospital chart review and patient telephone interview 1 week after discharge. Results: The study recruited 4273 patients from 144 centres in 25 countries; 1311 patients (30.7%) were prescribed opioid analgesia at discharge. Patients reported being in severe pain for 10 (i.q.r. 1-30)% of the first week after discharge and rated satisfaction with analgesia as 90 (i.q.r. 80-100) of 100. After adjustment for confounders, opioid analgesia on discharge was independently associated with increased pain severity (risk ratio 1.52, 95% c.i. 1.31 to 1.76; P < 0.001) and re-presentation to healthcare providers owing to side-effects of medication (OR 2.38, 95% c.i. 1.36 to 4.17; P = 0.004), but not with satisfaction with analgesia (beta coefficient 0.92, 95% c.i. -1.52 to 3.36; P = 0.468) compared with opioid-free analgesia. Although opioid prescribing varied greatly between high-income and low- and middle-income countries, patient-reported outcomes did not. Conclusion: Opioid analgesia prescription on surgical discharge is associated with a higher risk of re-presentation owing to side-effects of medication and increased patient-reported pain, but not with changes in patient-reported satisfaction. Opioid-free discharge analgesia should be adopted routinely

The increasing population is threatening the food security as the protein source from plants and animals is insufficient. Migratory locust is permissible in Islam and contain quite high protein content. SPI and MTG may help to strengthen the noodle structure. The aim of the research is to survey the possible formulation for white salted noodle made from locust powder by evaluating the cooking quality of white salted noodle as locust powder is partially substituted locust powder (5 and 10% by flour weight) and investigate the effect of SPI and MTG as food binder. The noodle maker kneaded the ingredients for 3 minutes and let it rest for 8 minutes

The Arabic language is one of the third languages offered for degree students at UiTM. The students must complete three levels (I, II and III). Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the methodology of teaching the Arabic language was by using the traditional way, which was face-to-face instruction. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the methodology of teaching in UiTM has shifted to Open and Distance Learning (ODL). This new way of teaching affected the students’ acceptance of learning the Arabic language as they were familiar with the traditional method of teaching. This study aimed to get feedback on student’s acceptance of using Microsoft Teams in teaching and learning the Arabic language. The objectives of this study are (i) to evaluate the Perceived Usefulness (PU) of Microsoft Teams among UiTM Students learning Arabic Language, (ii) to assess the Perceived Ease of Use (PEU) of Microsoft Teams among UiTM Students learning Arabic Language and (iii) to investigate the students’ attitudes towards using Microsoft Teams in learning the Arabic language. The sample consisted of 121 students from three different faculties:  Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM), Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation (FSR) and Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies (FSPPP). The data were collected using Google Forms. The result shows that the students agreed that the application of Microsoft Teams for learning the Arabic language was easy to access, convenient and user-friendly. Other than that, they also agreed Microsoft Teams helped them to learn the Arabic language efficiently and perform a task quickly and were interested in using the apps for learning. It is suggested that MS Teams is one of the convenient online applications that can be used in learning the Arabic language via the Open Distance Learning (ODL) mode

This paper examines the acceptance on Using Microsoft Teams in Learning the English Language amongst Undergraduate Students at Universiti Teknologi MARA, Seremban Campus, based on the principles of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). This is due to the shifting mode of teaching and learning from physical classes to online platforms during the pandemic period since March 2020. A 5-point Likert scale survey questionnaire was used to collect the quantitative data from the respective respondents. A questionnaire was used as the instrument to collect the data, which was developed using Google Forms. The sample of the study was obtained through purposive sampling. The sample consisted of 85 students from the Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies. The data were then analysed by using descriptive statistics, which were the percentages, and the results were presented in charts provided by Google Forms. The results indicate that students positively accepted the use of Microsoft Teams, which is also known as a popular platform for e-learning purposes, especially to cater to English language subjects in learning the English language
