Creating a New Literature: Shimazaki Toson\u27s Poetry and the Japanese Literary Reform Movement
This research project shows how the poetry of writer Shimazaki Tōson (1872-1943) influenced Japanese literary and language reform movements during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Although Tōson\u27s fiction has often been the focus of critical studies and research, the impact his poetry had on these reform movements and on the shape of modern Japanese literature tends to be overlooked. In this paper, I show the importance of these overlooked works by examining a wide range of Tōson\u27s poems and focusing on the way that they blend classical Japanese natural themes and rhythm, most commonly a 5-7-5 or related syllable pattern, with contemporary Western Romanticism. Upon examination of Tōson\u27s poetry, it becomes clear that these works acted as a bridge between classical literature and contemporary colloquial speech patterns, as well as a bridge between classical Japanese literature and modern, more Western-influenced styles. This bridging process was key to the redefinition of Japanese literature in the modern period. In turn, these changes brought written styles closer to the Japanese actually spoken by most citizens and helped to expand the readership of Japanese literature while showing that this new style could still ring with the rhythm and beauty of traditional Japanese literary forms. Demonstrating the influential nature of Tōson\u27s poetry for Japanese language and literary reform movements, this thesis highlights the importance of often overlooked writing during a transitional period in the history of Japanese literature
Characterization of Graphite Composite Material Particulates from USAF Aircraft Maintenance Operations
Due to the benefits of their material properties, advanced composite materials (ACM) are increasingly being used as structural components on aircraft, especially within the United States Air Force. As a result, the potential exists for occupational exposures to structural maintenance employees while repairing and fabricating aircraft components. Two field studies were conducted for this thesis in order to characterize ACM aerosol size distribution, determine the feasibility of utilizing direct reading instruments (DRIs) in the field, and ensure workers are protected with adequate controls. In order to characterize exposure, traditional integrated air sampling and DRIs were positioned together near an ACM panel being fabricated. Gravimetric analyses and fiber counts were conducted on the integrated samples, whereas particle counts and size distributions were analyzed using the DRIs (optical and condensation particle counters). The second field study involved utilizing the DRIs during a C-17 crash and recovery operation, which confirmed they can be helpful for base-level bioenvironmental engineers (BEEs) for recommending personal protective equipment for the clean-up crew. The results of this research suggest that the combination of an OPC and a CPC enable the creation of one particle size distribution that can be used for ensuring adequacy of engineering controls

Transgovernmentalism Meets Security: Police Liaison Officers, Terrorism and Statist Transnationalism
Cataloged from PDF version of article.Studies of transgovernmental activities have enhanced our understanding of changing global politics, but their claims have not been fully investigated with respect to the security realm. Therefore, this article first acknowledges a gap between the practices and capacities of nonstate entities creating transnational threats and those of state-based agents of response. States' ability to respond to these threats has been questioned. Is this skepticism warranted or have states begun adapting and developing new responses to address nonstate security challenges? This article looks at transgovernmental responses to transnational terrorism and identifies an unconventional group of substate pioneers, police liaison officers (PLO), making moves into the transnational realm. Data collected through interviews with international PLOs reveal these activities to be characterized by increasing informality, depoliticization, and demonopolization of global security cooperation. This cooperation nevertheless maintains its strong ties with state legitimacy and capacity, and is therefore conceptualized here as statist transnationalis
Improving Students Vocabulary Mastery Using Flashcard at The KAI
This study discusses the improvement of students' English vocabulary by using flashcards. This research aims of the paper are: (1) Can flashcards improve students' vocabulary, (2) What is the students' vocabulary achievement before and after using flashcards. The subjects of this study were students in Brainy English at The KAI, where a total of 30 students were from classes D1 to D4. This research was conducted in the academic year 2022/2023. The model of Classroom Action Research (CAR) is stated by Kemmis and Mc Taggart (in Burns, 1993:32) who state that the model of Classroom Action Research is consist of four steps. They are namely: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Based on this study, it was stated that there was an increase in students' vocabulary after learning using flash cards. The average value of student achievement in cycle 1 was 65.5, and the average value of student achievement increased to 79.7 in cycle 2. Therefore, the author can conclude that the use of flashcards is the most appropriate medium to attract students' interest and make the classroom atmosphere fun and can improve student learning outcomes vocabulary. The author hopes that this thesis can be used as an additional reference, namely: will be the next researcher with a different discussion who can revise the development of this flashcard

The Effectiveness of Using Bingo Games Media to Improve Students Vocabulary Mastery
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using bingo games media to improve students vocabulary mastery at MTsN CIBINONG. Based on the theory of Groller, Bingo is often played simultaneously by large groups; the winner being the first contestant is to cover a line of five numbered spaces on his card as selected by chance and announced by the game caller. Design used in this study is experimental quantitative research. The research subject were 30 students at MTsN 3 CIBINONG. The result of using vocabulary Bingo games strategy showed that the students were interested in teaching and learning English. Based on the fact, it is underlined that in this study, the hypothesis of this study is accepted and well proven; as the writer has previously hypothesized that there is a significant difference between teaching vocabulary to the students of MTsN CIBINONG who are taught vocabulary by using Bingo Game and those are taught without using Bingo Game. The students of MTsN CIBINONG are interested in studying vocabulary through Bingo Game. The students enjoy learning vocabulary by using Bingo Game. The students of MTsN CIBINONG who are taught vocabulary by using Bingo Game get higher score than those who are taught without using Bingo Game. There is a significant difference between control group and experimental groups. From the statistical analysis, it is found that the students of experimental group who are taught vocabulary by using Bingo Game gained better result than the students of controlled group who are taught without using Bingo Game
