The purpose of this research is to explore the consciousness on exercise and sports of the elderly people. In order to examine the concrete form and substance of exercise and sports that be able to done “anytime, anywhere, anybody", especially stretching. The objects of the research (A) (342 sheets) are the elderly people from 50s to 70s. And the research (B) (159 sheets) are university students. The results of this research are as follows : 1) The number of people who care about health and physical strength is less than half about nutrition for life. 2) Most elderly people take light exercise and sports. 3) They don't confirm their subjective symptoms and don't warm up enough. 4) They know the word “stretching" well, but don't practice too much. 5) They stretch for the effect of “relaxation their muscles" and “betterment of flexibility of a joint" in the warm-up segment. The elderly people don't understand well enough the proper way of the practice. We must furnish concrete and proper information for the elderly people

The purpose of this research is to explore the consciousness on health, exercise and sports in order to understand the actual condition, revolving around relations with extra-curricular sports club activities of school age. The objects of this research (182 sheets) are the eldery people from 40s to 70s. The results of this research are as follows: 1. The number of people of experience of extra-curricular sports club is 84(46.2%), and non-experience is 98(53.8%). 2. The people of experience join to exercise and sports more frequently, because they are influenced upon the conciousness on their will on learning physical education or sports and their skills of school age. 3. The people of non-experience join in order to find out a way to develope the healty life and to communicate with thier friends in the public facilities. Because the consciousness of exercise and sports varies according to their past experiences, not only we must educate to be conscious of health and physical strength for life from childhood, but also offer the various service for the eldery people throughout their life

Validation of tsunami numerical simulation models for an idealized coastal industrial site

    Get PDF
Numerous tsunami numerical models have been proposed, but their prediction accuracies have not been directly compared. For quantifying the modeling uncertainties, the authors statistically analyzed the prediction results submitted by participants in the tsunami blind contest held at the 17th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering. The reproducibility of offshore water level generated due to the tsunami with soliton fission significantly decreased when the nonlinear shallow water equation models (NSWE) was used compared to three-dimensional (3D) models. The inundation depth was reproduced well in 3D models. However, the reproducibility of wave forces acting on the structure and velocities over land was lower in 3D models than that in NSWE models. For cases where the impulsive tsunami wave pressure generated could not be calculated based on the hydrostatic assumption, the prediction accuracy of the NSWE models was higher than that of the 3D models. The prediction accuracies of both models were not improved at small grid-cell sizes. The NSWE model cannot simulate the short-wave component and vertical pressure distribution. Therefore, further developments in 3D models and smoothed particle hydrodynamics methods (SPH) are needed. The presented results contribute to the future development of tsunami numerical simulation tools.Peer Reviewed"Article signat per 34 autors/es: Masashi Watanabe,Taro Arikawa,Naoto Kihara,Chiaki Tsurudome,Koichi Hosaka,Tatsuto Kimura,Takayuki Hashimoto,Fumitaka Ishihara,Takemi Shikata,Daniel Shigueo Morikawa,Taiga Makino,Mitsuteru AsaiORCID Icon,Yu Chida,Yoichi Ohnishi,Simone Marras,Abhishek Mukherjee,Juan Carlos Cajas,Guillaume Houzeaux,B D Paolo, Javier L. A Study of Psycho-pathology and Treatment of Children with Phagophobia

    Get PDF
Phagophobia is a disorder characterized by a conditioned excessive fear of eating and is initiated by an event such as vomiting or choking. During childhood, vomiting often occurs as a result of infection or overeating, and painful experiences bring about maladaptive eating behavior like food refusal. There have been few reports of phagophobia, and patients have sometimes been misdiagnosed with anorexia nervosa (AN). The objective of this study was to elucidate the psycho-pathology and current treatment of patients with phagophobia by analyzing case studies. We describe 6 cases with phagophobia. Patients with strong obsessions were refractory to treatment, indicating that evaluation of premorbid personality is crucial to the prognosis. It is important to classify this disorder according to psycho-pathology into "post-traumatic type" and "gain-from-illness type" to make a treatment plan. A solution focused approach is also effective for patients and their family. Paying close attention to these conditions and to the diagnostic concept referred as "hagophobia" is useful in achieving these aims

A case of alcoholic liver injury with an unusual polyacrylamide-gel disc-electrophoretic pattern of serum lipoproteins.

    Get PDF
An unusual lipoprotein pattern on polyacrylamide-gel disc-electrophoresis was observed in 37 year-old male diagnosed as alcoholic liver injury. The electrophoretic lipoprotein pattern consisted of a major band of pre-beta mobility and minor intermediate, fast-beta and slow-alpha bands. The normal beta band was virtually absent and the alpha band was diminished. The abnormal lipoprotein pattern was observed one week after discontinuing alcohol consumption when marked hypertriglyceridemia demonstrated earlier had already normalized leaving a moderate hypercholesterolemia with reduced esterified cholesterol and abnormal liver function tests. The lipoprotein abnormalities were completely normal one month later. The appearance of a major pre-beta band with normal triglyceride and high cholesterol levels is discussed in relation to the formation of larger triglyceride-rich LDL particles in recovery from alcoholic hepatitis.</p

Genomes of Neutrophilic Sulfur-Oxidizing Chemolithoautotrophs Representing 9 Proteobacterial Species From 8 Genera

Even in the current era of metagenomics, the interpretation of nucleotide sequence data is primarily dependent on knowledge obtained from a limited number of microbes isolated in pure culture. Thus, it is of fundamental importance to expand the variety of strains available in pure culture, to make reliable connections between physiological characteristics and genomic information. In this study, two sulfur oxidizers that potentially represent two novel species were isolated and characterized. They were subjected to whole-genome sequencing together with 7 neutrophilic and chemolithoautotrophic sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. The genes for sulfur oxidation in the obtained genomes were identified and compared with those of isolated sulfur oxidizers in the classes Betaproteobacteria and Gammaproteobacteria. Although the combinations of these genes in the respective genomes are diverse, typical combinations corresponding to three types of core sulfur oxidation pathways were identified. Each pathway involves one of three specific sets of proteins, SoxCD, DsrABEFHCMKJOP, and HdrCBAHypHdrCB. All three core pathways contain the SoxXYZAB proteins, and a cytoplasmic sulfite oxidase encoded by soeABC is a conserved component in the core pathways lacking SoxCD. Phylogenetically close organisms share same core sulfur oxidation pathway, but a notable exception was observed in the family ‘Sulfuricellaceae’. In this family, some strains have either core pathway involving DsrABEFHCMKJOP or HdrCBAHypHdrCB, while others have both pathways. A proteomics analysis showed that proteins constituting the core pathways were produced at high levels. While hypothesized function of HdrCBAHypHdrCB is similar to that of Dsr system, both sets of proteins were detected with high relative abundances in the proteome of a strain possessing genes for these proteins. In addition to the genes for sulfur oxidation, those for arsenic metabolism were searched for in the sequenced genomes. As a result, two strains belonging to the families Thiobacillaceae and Sterolibacteriaceae were observed to harbor genes encoding ArxAB, a type of arsenite oxidase that has been identified in a limited number of bacteria. These findings were made with the newly obtained genomes, including those from 6 genera from which no genome sequence of an isolated organism was previously available. These genomes will serve as valuable references to interpret nucleotide sequences

Effect of Miglitol, an α-Glucosidase Inhibitor, on Postprandial Glucose and Lipid Metabolism in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

    Get PDF
Objective: The effects of miglitol on postprandial glucose and lipid metabolism were investigated in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) treated with diet alone. Subjects and Methods: A meal tolerance test (MTT) was performed in 26 diabetic patients before and 2 weeks after 150 mg/day miglitol treatment, with the second MTT performed in patients after they had taken a dose of 50 mg miglitol. Results: Miglitol treatment decreased postprandial blood glucose and serum insulin levels 30 and 60 min after meal loading, but there was no change in blood glucose levels at 120 min. In addition, there were no significant decreases in the area under the curve (AUC) of blood glucose and serum insulin levels. However, the AUC of postprandial serum triglycerides and incremental triglycerides decreased significantly, as did the AUC of postprandial incremental remnant-like particle cholesterol. There were no significant changes in total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol. Conclusions: Miglitol treatment improves postprandial hyperlipidemia, as well as postprandial hyperglycemia, in patients with T2DM. In T2DM patients treated with α-glucosidase inhibitors alone, measuring blood glucose levels 120 min after a meal may not be the best way to monitor postprandial glucose metabolism

Roots-eye view: using microdialysis and microCT to non-destructively map root nutrient depletion and accumulation zones

    Get PDF
Improvement in fertiliser use efficiency is a key aspect for achieving sustainable agriculture in order to minimise costs, greenhouse gas emissions and pollution from nutrient runoff. To optimise root architecture for nutrient uptake and efficiency we need to understand what the roots encounter in their environment. Traditional methods of nutrient sampling such as salt extractions can only be done at the end of an experiment, are impractical for sampling locations precisely and give total nutrient values which can overestimate the nutrients available to the roots. In contrast, microdialysis provides a non-invasive, continuous method for sampling available nutrients in the soil. Here for the first time we have used microCT imaging to position microdialysis probes at known distances from the roots and then measured the available nitrate and ammonium. We found that nitrate accumulated close to roots while ammonium was depleted demonstrating that this combination of complementary techniques provides a unique ability to measure root-available nutrients non-destructively and in almost real-time
