Optical Birefringence Fiber Temperature Sensors in the Visible Spectrum of Light

    Get PDF
This article describes experimental tests to determine PM fibers Panda style responses to a thermal source with different initial temperature. The aim of this study was to determine the sensitivity of a polarization maintaining fiber to the radiating heat, and to upgrade the space configuration and time response when using the 635 nm light. The sensitivity of the polarization maintaining fiber during excitation of both polarization modes is the principle of this sensor function. This excitation is caused by temperature change and by absorption of thermal radiation. This mechanism is used as an indicator for detection of temperature field disturbance. This article also provides links to previously published results and compares them to the results in this article

Energy Security in Central and Eastern Europe and the Operations of Russian State-Owned Energy Enterprises

In 2012, the Prague Security Studies Institute (PSSI) and the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University (FSS MU) forged a partnership arrangement in the field of regional energy security. This partnership has served, among other purposes, as a firm basis for a joint research endeavor intended to examine patterns of behavior of the key Russian state-owned enterprises in the natural gas and nuclear energy sectors of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). During this more than year-long project, PSSI and the FSS MU organized a substantial number of individual consultations, in-depth interviews and research trips and convened two more formal roundtable gatherings of prominent energy security experts and analysts. This intensive effort is resulting in a comprehensive report examining the natural gas and nuclear energy sectors in the CEE and the prominent role played by Russian state-owned enterprises (SOEs), Gazprom and Rosatom. In addition to its focus on these companies, the study, by necessity, takes a broader analytical look at the region’s energy environment and competitive pressures worldwide, particularly those emanating from Asia. Among the questions that are probed there are: What is the prognosis for marketing of Russian gas in Europe in light of the EU’s Third Energy Package? What is the position of Russian companies in the nuclear sector in CEE? Will Asian nations, in fact, provide new outlets for Russian energy exports in the short- to medium-term and how will these new markets affect the overall strategy of these Russian enterprises? To what extent have these SOEs become politicized and even weaponized? The report seeks to provide an unbiased assessment of the potential risks arising from the operations of these Russian state-owned enterprises and related market forces that could potentially harm the region’s energy security. It is intended that the findings of this assessment serve to assist the work of energy and security policy practitioners, industry as well as the academic and NGO communities. On the occasion of completion of this study, our research teams decided to organize an international conference that will also address broader issues in the energy security policy portfolio. Among the confirmed speakers are: Václav Bartuška, Ambassador-At-Large for Energy Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic; Urban Rusnák, Secretary General, Energy Charter, Belgium; Julia Kusznir, Associate Researcher, Bremer Energie Institut, conf. Choi Jong-uk, Director, International Energy Security Division, Global Economy Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Korea; Hirobumi Kayama, Director, Office for International Nuclear Energy Cooperation, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan; Sanjoy Banerjee, Director, Energy Institute, City College of New York (CUNY); Andrej Nosko, Program Manager, Think Tank Fund, Open Society Foundations, Hungary. The conference is organized by Přemysl Sobotka, First Vice-President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, the Prague Security Studies Institute (PSSI) and the Faculty of Social Studies of Masaryk University (MUNI) with the support from Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, International Institute of Political Science of Masaryk University, KEPCO, the Embassy of the United States in Prague and the Embassy of Japan in Prague

HEAT TRANSFER MODELLING OF TWO-PHASE FLOW IN ISOLATED CHANNEL

    Get PDF
This paper deals with Post-CHF (critical heat flux) heat transfer with the focus on different regimes of film boiling. The new thermal-hydraulic code TUBE 2.0 is presented. This code uses the equation of energy conservation and predefined correlations to establish wall temperature, the departure of nucleate boiling ratio as well as other parameters of cooling in a simple geometry - an isolated channel. With experimental data of inverted annular film boiling from Stewart, the best-performing correlation for calculation of post-CHF heat transfer in the channel was determined. Finally, the new presented code TUBE 2.0 and subchannel code SUBCAL owned by Chemcomex a.s. are compared using results of various experiments conducted by Becker. Data from Stewart could not be used because of inability to predict the onset of boiling crisis with several correlations

This paper describes the development of areal-time model up to 3 parallel PWM rectifiers and itsimplementation on FPGA using LabVIEW developmentenvironment. The main benefit of this real-time model is thefact that there is no need for a real device or a test stand fordebugging of traction drive control SW. The Hardware-inthe-Loop testing with similar RT model of an inductionmachine has already brought large financial and timesavings. Moreover, destructive states or states difficult toevoke can be tested using such a real-time model

ObhájenoThis bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis of managerial activities during the organization of the sport event L'Etape Czech Republic by Tour de France. The introduction of the thesis was devoted to the definition of the basic concepts related to the topic and the characteristics of the organization organizing the event L'Etape Czech Republic, including a description of the event itself. Subsequently, the author analyses the managerial functions performed in the club. Then the author analyses the internal and external factors influencing the project and from this analysis a SWOT analysis is prepared. From the prepared SWOT analysis, different strategies are derived and procedures are suggested to eliminate the problems and improve the operation of the project. The author found that there is not enough personal evaluation and feedback to the employees within the project's personnel management. Another problem is related to the low participation of the female gender, which has been addressed by the organisers but not yet successfully. Measures have therefore been proposed to address these shortcomings
