    Structured Templates for Authoring Semantically Rich Documents

    International audienceStructured documents associate explicit semantics with content, but authoring rigorously structured documents is a very difficult task. We present a new approach to this issue that adds schema-level information to the popular web formats. This makes editing highly structured documents easier, while ensuring that documents are valid. It is also an easy way to publish semantically rich documents on the web. The impact of this approach on authoring tools is discussed and its implementation in the Amaya editor is briefly presented

    Description of six scenarios and of the results of six validated trialsThis deliverable aims at presenting and analysing the processes of elaboration and validation of the PALETTE scenarios. After having defined these two processes and situated them into the PALETTE methodology, the scenarios are presented. For each scenario, the specific methodology of elaboration and validation is described with a special focus on the participation of the concerned Communities of Pratcice (CoPs). Then the results of the validation are presented as well as the reports of their technical feasability and the usability of PALETTE services from a user perspective. Finally we reflect on and we discuss about the whole process of validation of the scenarios and we describe the next steps towards the development of the scenarios and their trilas with the CoPs

    Combining Hypertext and Structured Documents in Grif

    This paper presents the experience gained in developing and using the hypertext functions of the Grif system. Grif is a structured document editor based on the generic structure concept: each document is represented in the system by its logical structure which is an instance of a generic structure. This notion of logical structure encompasses both hierarchical structures (as is usual in structured documents) and non-hierarchical links (as is usual in hypertext). The document model on which Grif is based is presented, focusing on the different types of links. Various applications using these links are also described. It is shown that the approaches of electronic documents and hypertext, which are often opposed to each other, can be combined for building more powerful integrated systems

    HTML has popularized the use of style sheets, and the advent of XML has stressed the importance of style as a key area complementing document structure and content. A number of tools are now available for producing HTML and XML documents, but very few are addressing style issues. In this paper we analyze the requirements for style manipulation tools, based on the main features of the CSS language. We discuss methods and techniques that meet these requirements and that can be used to efficiently support web authors in style sheet manipulation. The discussion is illustrated by the recent developments made in the Amaya web authoring environment

    Picture A specific language, called P language, is used to describe presentation rules for each type of element defined in the DTD. Interpretation of these presentation rules is based on the concept of abstract pictures [27]. When Grif has a document to print or to display in a window, it first builds an abstract picture which is a high-level description of that document image. This description is device-independent and allows the editor to update the image dynamically in a simple way. In a second step, it translates this abstract picture into the real image which is displayed on the screen or printed on paper sheets. The abstract picture is the interaction support between the application and the user. An abstract picture is a hierarchy of abstract boxes, the concept of box being the rectangle which delimits a document element as defined in T E X [16].
