Analysis of smart energy systems and high participation of V2G impact for the ecuadorian 100% renewable energy system by 2050

    Get PDF
This research presents a 100% renewable energy (RE) scenario by 2050 with a high share of electric vehicles on the grid (V2G) developed in Ecuador with the support of the EnergyPLAN analysis tool. Hour-by-hour data iterations were performed to determine solutions among various features, including energy storage, V2G connections that spanned the distribution system, and long-term evaluation. The high participation in V2G connections keeps the electrical system available; meanwhile, the high proportions of variable renewable energy are the pillar of the joint electrical system. The layout of the sustainable mobility scenario and the high V2G participation maintain the balance of the electrical system during most of the day, simplifying the storage equipment requirements. Consequently, the influence of V2G systems on storage is a significant result that must be considered in the energy transition that Ecuador is developing in the long term. The stored electricity will not only serve as storage for future grid use. Additionally, the V2G batteries serve as a buffer between generation from diversified renewable sources and the end-use stage.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    Get PDF

Human Activity Recognition without Vision Tracking

    Get PDF
This work describes the recognition of human activity based on the interaction between people and objects in domestic settings, specifically in a kitchen. The difference between this and other proposals is that considers a human activity in a process without vision tracking. Videos are a sequence of photographs. Taking this into account, if you analyze an orderly sequence of images it could be based on the objects present in each scene so that you can understand the possible activity performed. However, it is not enough to consider the objects present in the scene; it is necessary to determine if those objects are employed or not by the humans present. If they are used, it is evident that they are necessary to carry out the activity; if they are not used they would only provide noise to the recognized activity. Therefore, it is necessary to generate a conceptualization of objects in the scene with characteristics (definition of an object, motion detector, object recognition, object position, object action) that allows you to recognize them and to determine the degree of use (unchanged, added, removed, moved, and indeterminate) and influence the possible recognized activity

A 15-year-old boy with a poplited tumor in the knee is presented. The initial exploration showed a firm mass without inflammatory signs. RNM and bone scintigraphy disclosed benign pathology. The pathological diagnosis showed a central area of isquemic necrosis, with distrofic calcification of the semitendinous muscle

Structure observer-based controller for delayed systems with two unstable poles and minimum phase zeros

    Get PDF
International audienceThis paper analyse the problem of control and stabilization of a particular class of Linear Time Invariant (LTI) systems. The system under consideration has two unstable poles, n real stable poles, m minimum phase zeros plus time delay. An observer based controller with four tunable gains is proposed as control strategy in order to ensure stable behaviour of the closed loop system. Sufficient conditions for the existence of the proposed scheme are shown in terms of the upper limit of time delay size and the poles and zeros position. The controller parameters are tuned using hinfstruct which is a non-smooth H ∞ optimization method. The proposed control strategy it is applied to an unstable linearized model of a continuously stirred tank reactor (CSTR) in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed design scheme. Numerical results are presented

    Get PDF
The supplementary fixation with screws non-cemented acetabular hemispheric components is used to provide primary stability to the implants. However, their use has been associated to a bigger risk of neurological and vascular damage, characteristic complications of the screws and osteolysis. The X-rays of 30 non-cemented acetabular cups model Bihapro supplemented with screws have been studied retrospectively with a 5 year-old minimum follow-up. It was also used an analysis program and computer store of images. No neurological or vascular damage took place. Any mobilization of the cup was not appreciated and only in one case of an osteolytic area was observed around a screw in a patient who unfderwent revision surgery. The digitalization of images is a technique that allows among other advantages to graduate periprosthetic bone densities facilitating an early diagnose of lytic areas and prosthetic micromovements eliminating the observer's subjectivity

Parallel mesh partitioning based on space filling curves

Larger supercomputers allow the simulation of more complex phenomena with increased accuracy. Eventually this requires finer and thus also larger geometric discretizations. In this context, and extrapolating to the Exascale paradigm, meshing operations such as generation, deformation, adaptation/regeneration or partition/load balance, become a critical issue within the simulation workflow. In this paper we focus on mesh partitioning. In particular, we present a fast and scalable geometric partitioner based on Space Filling Curves (SFC), as an alternative to the standard graph partitioning approach. We have avoided any computing or memory bottleneck in the algorithm, while we have imposed that the solution achieved is independent (discounting rounding off errors) of the number of parallel processes used to compute it. The performance of the SFC-based partitioner presented has been demonstrated using up to 4096 CPU-cores in the Blue Waters supercomputer. The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Union Horizon 2020 Programme (2014-2020) and the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation through Rede Nacional de Pesquisa (RNP) under the HPC4E Project (grant agreement No. 689772).
