Turkmen, Mustafa/0000-0001-6700-5947WOS: 000423136300024This study aimed to investigate the metal concentrations in muscles and livers of commercially important ten fish species from the coastal waters of Southeastern Black Sea. Metal levels in livers of species were greater than those in muscles. This study provides valuable information about metal contents in muscles and livers of the examined fish species and indirectly indicates the environmental contamination of the coast. According to the obtained results, it may be said that consumption of the edible muscle tissues of fish from this region by humans is not a risk.Giresun UniversityGiresun University [FEN-BAP-A-160512-29]Thanks to Giresun University for its financial support (Project No: FEN-BAP-A-160512-29)

Management of Patients with a Failed Kidney Transplant

    No full text
WOS: 000417359300002The number of patients with a failed allograft returning to dialysis increases over time. These patients have increased morbidity and mortality compared with their transplant-naive, incident dialysis patients. The management of these patients is more difficult as many issues are unclear. This review includes the current suggestions on mortality, dialysis reinitiation time, renal replacement therapy, and retransplantation. We aimed to reach a conclusion regarding these issues

European Best Practice Guideline on Kidney Donor and Recipient Evaluation and Perioperative Care

    No full text
Caring for kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) requires specialized knowledge in areas as varied as nephrology, immunology, pharmacology, endocrinology, infectious disease, and cardiology. In this context of increasing complexity coupled with an exponential growth in medical literature, clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) aim at helping clini-cians and other caregivers to deliver evidence-based medicine and thereby, to improve patient outcomes. Furthermore, guidelines also help to expose gaps in our knowledge, and thereby suggest areas where additional research is needed

Improvement of the thrust-torque ratio of an unmanned helicopter by using the ABC algorithm

    No full text
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to use an ABC algorithm to improve the thrust-torque ratio of a rotating-wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) model. Design/methodology/approach The design of UAVs, such as aircraft, drones, helicopters, has become one of the popular engineering areas with the development of technology. This study aims to improve the value of thrust-torque ratio of an unmanned helicopter. For this purpose, an unmanned helicopter was built at the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Erciyes University. The maximum thrust-torque ratio was calculated considering the blade length, blade chord width, blade mass density and blade twist angle. For calculation, artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm was used. By using ABC algorithm, the maximum thrust-torque ratio was obtained against the optimum input values. For this purpose, a model with four inputs and a single output is formed. In the generated system model, optimum thrust-torque ratio was calculated by changing the input values used in the +/- 5% range. As a result of this study, approximately 31% improvement was achieved. According to these results, the proposed approach will provide convenience to the designers in the design of the rotating-wing UAV. Findings According to these results, approximately 31% improvement was achieved, and the proposed approach will provide convenience to the designers in the design of the rotating-wing UAV. Research limitations/implications It takes a long time to obtain the optimum thrust-torque ratio value through the ABC algorithm method. Practical implications Using ABC algorithm provides to improve the value of thrust-torque ratio of an unmanned helicopter. With this algorithm, unmanned helicopter flies more than ever. Thus, the presented method based on the ABC algorithm is more efficient. Social implications The application of the ABC algorithm method can be used effectively to calculate the thrust-torque ratio in UAV. Originality/value Providing an original and penetrating a method that saves time and reduces the cost to improve the value of thrust-torque ratio of an unmanned helicopter

Sexual Dysfunction in Women After Renal Transplantation

This descriptive and correlation-seeking study was designed to determine sexual problems in female renal transplant patients and determine whether there is a difference between the pre- and post-transplantation period in terms of sexual function. This research was completed in the Transplantation Outpatient Clinic of Istanbul School of Medicine and included 100 female patients who met the research criteria between September 2010 and June 2011. In line with the literature, the Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale and an information form prepared by researchers were used to evaluate sociodemographic features and sexual function. The sexual function of the patients in the post-transplantation period was observed to be significantly good compared with those of patients in the dialysis period (r = 0.693, p = 0.000) according to the Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale average score, although 79 % of the patients were diagnosed with sexual dysfunction. Significant correlations were found between score and patient age, spouse age, economic situation, educational background, sexual intercourse frequency, and type of treatment. According to these study results, transplantation is the best treatment option for a healthy sexual life in patients with end-stage renal disease

    New Bio-Markers: Cell-Free DNAs and MICRO-RNAs

The only reason of being in the same review of cell free DNAs (cfDNA) and micro-RNAs (miRNA), whose only common points were being tiny, showing up in the circulation and their visibility that can be increased by amplifications, is that; both of them quickly entered the research and clinical world as candidates of bio-markers for diagnosis and follow-up for many diseases with considerable number of studies published since last two decades, cfDNAs can be found in the circulation as a steady signature of a given diseased condition while miRNAs are found both as a steady marker of a disease, and a transmitter of a malign behavior into the intact cells. In our review, we tried to briefly explain the biogenesis of both and their relationship with diseases and their clinical uses. The idea that cfDNAs and miRAs can be used as a diagnostic and follow-up criterion in transplantation is a new approach. Transplant practice has long been in search of new laboratory methods that can allow for the early detection of rejection without any clinical symptoms. The early studies on the use of cfDNA and miRNAs in post- transplant monitorization indicate that both are promising candidates as bio-markers

Background A 58-year-old schizophrenic male who had been drinking at least 4-51 of pure water every day for 30 years was admitted to a hospital with complaints of nausea, fatigue, and irregular, fluctuating fevers (up to 39 degrees C). He had previously been prescribed fluoxetine at a dose of 20 mg/day and had been using the drug for 28 days
