Energy and momentum of Bianchi Type VI_h Universes

    Get PDF
We obtain the energy and momentum of the Bianchi type VI_h universes using different prescriptions for the energy-momentum complexes in the framework of general relativity. The energy and momentum of the Bianchi VI_h universe are found to be zero for the parameter h = -1 of the metric. The vanishing of these results support the conjecture of Tryon that Universe must have a zero net value for all conserved quantities. This also supports the work of Nathan Rosen with the Robertson-Walker metric. Moreover, it raises an interesting question: "Why h=-1 case is so special?

Gravitating dyons and the Lue-Weinberg bifurcation

Gravitating t'Hooft-Polyakov magnetic monopoles can be constructed when coupling the Georgi-Glashow model to gravitation. For a given value of the Higgs boson mass, these gravitating solitons exist up to a critical value of the ratio of the vector meson mass to the Planck mass. The critical solution is characterized by a degenerate horizon of the metric. As pointed out recently by Lue and Weinberg, two types of critical solutions can occur, depending on the value of the Higgs boson mass. Here we investigate this transition for dyons and show that the Lue and Weinberg phenomenon is favorized by the presence of the electric-charge degree of freedom.Comment: RevTeX, 6 pages, 8 figure

    Monopoles in non-Abelian Einstein-Born-Infeld Theory

We study static spherically symmetric monopole solutions in non-Abelian Einstein-Born-Infeld-Higgs model with normal trace structure. These monopoles are similar to the corresponding solution with symmetrised trace structure and are existing only up to some critical value of the strength of the gravitational interaction. In addition, similar to their flat space counterpart, they also admit a critical value of the Born-Infeld parameter \b.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure

    A Barren Landscape?

We consider the generation of a non-perturbative superpotential in F-theory compactifications with flux. We derive a necessary condition for the generation of such a superpotential in F-theory. For models with a single volume modulus, we show that the volume modulus is never stabilized by either abelian instantons or gaugino condensation. We then comment on how our analysis extends to a larger class of compactifications. From our results, it appears that among large volume string compactifications, metastable de Sitter vacua (should any exist) are non-generic.Comment: 14 pages, comments adde

Preparation of Pre-Reduced Briquettes and Studies on the Kinetics of the Process Under Reduced Pressure

INVESTIGATIONS has been carried out to find the optimum conditions for the production of highly reduced iron ore briquettes suitable as a blast furnace feed from Indian ore fines and low grade coke/wool charcoal under reduced pressure 1 x 101 mm. (Hg.) The effects of time (1/4 hr. to 6 hr.) temperature (950°C to 1150°C and Fe20 1,C ratio (1/3 to 1/5) on the rate of reduction of iron ore brique-ttes have been studied. From the kinetic results, a mecha-nism for reduction of iron oxide in iron ore briquettes is proposed and optimum conditions for production of highly reduced iron ore briquettes are summarised
