    Organizational Networks, and Management of Disruptions in the Airline Ground Operation Process During Seasonal Crises

    This study focuses on informal relationships between airlines and suppliers in managing disruptions in the airline ground operation process during peak times in the summer seasons. In this context, the study investigates the change between actors’ formal and informal networks after they face disruptions in the airline ground operation process and their informal exchanges in this process. Antalya Airport was chosen as the research area since it is a leader airport for especially non-scheduled flights during the summer seasons in Turkey. The study was carried out as network research and the network data were collected through face-to-face meetings with actors (17 airlines and 13 suppliers) directly involved in the airline ground operation process. The study reveals that although there are formal contracts between the actors, managers are able to prefer their informal relationships based on close friendships rather than formal networks for the immediate solution of problems in crisis times. In addition, the severity of the disruptions affects the level of the contacted position and there is a direct proportion between them. Moreover, although some actors do not have formal contracts with each other, they can informally and mutually exchange, and they do not bill these exchanges\u27 costs in these crisis periods

    Apelin is a G protein-linked receptor endogenous ligand, synthesized as a 77-amino acid pre-propeptide. Increased expression of apelin is present in many cardiovascular (CV) tissues, including cardiomyocytes. It is a peripheral vasodilator and one of the most potent stimulants of ventricular contraction. Apelin may be a valuable therapeutic for both blood pressure regulation and myocardial performance. More information is needed for the CV pathophysiology of apelin. We will discuss the importance of apelin level in CV diseases in this review

    Objective: In this study, traffic accident with a history ofobstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) in patientswith polysomnographic parameters was investigated.Methods: A total of 77 OSAS patients were included inthe study. All-night polysomnographic recordings obtainedfrom patients with enuresis parameters and thepresence of traffic accidents recorded in standard form.Results: The mean age of patients was 45.15 ± 11.53years. 53% of the patients were male and 47% female.The mean apnea hypopnea index (AHI) in patients was13.54 events/h. History of traffic accidents was found in12% patients. Apnea hypopnea index, supine AHI, arousalindex and oxygen desaturation index were found significantlydifferent parameters between history of trafficaccidents group and non-history of traffic accidents group(p <0.05).Conclusion: In this study, patients with OSAS severity ofthe disease with a history of traffic accidents were associatedthe relationship between the parameters.     The influence of alcohol related accidents on health care cost

    Introduction: Road traffic accidents are globally leading causes of mortality and morbidity. Alcohol is among the most frequently used pleasure-inducing substances in the world. Use of motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol is completely illegal in some countries. However, it is allowed up to a certain level of eth- anol in blood in other countries. Traffic accidents caused by alcohol consumption are known to cause more harmonhealthofindividuals.Thealcoholaffectsnervoussystem. Alcoholslowsreflexesandimpairsbalance. In other words, alcohol intake reduces capability of individuals while using any motor vehicle. This study aims to search the health care cost of individuals who had traffic accidents under the influence of alcohol.  Methods: This present study included 657 patients who were admitted to the E.R. resulting from traffic accidents between the dates 01.01.2017–01.06.2017. Demographic information of the patients, their time of hospital admission, medical analyses and examinations, the cost of those analyses and examinations, and their ethanol levels were recorded.  Results: 657 patients were included in the study. 460 (68.1) of those patients were males. Their age average was 35.57 ± 15.18. 61 (9.0%) of the patients were seen to have ethanol positive blood. The health care expenditures of ethanol positive patients were found to be 374,75 ± 251,3 TL whereas the expenditures of ethanol free patients were identified to be 283,17 ± 222,72 TL. The health care expenditures of ethanol positive patients were seen to have substantially increased. (p = 0,003).  Conclusions: Alcohol intake is known to be a leading cause of traffic accidents that generally results in deaths and heavy injuries. This present study displays that traffic accidents caused by alcohol consumption increases the cost of health care as well.

    The impact of Ki-67 index, squamous differentiation, and several clinicopathologic parameters on the recurrence of low and intermediate-risk endometrial cancer

    Endometrial endometrioid carcinoma (EEC) represents approximately 75-80% of endometrial carcinoma cases. Three hundred and thirty-six patients with EEC followed-up in the authors’ medical center between 2010 and 2018 were included in our study. Two hundred and seventy-two low and intermediate EEC patients were identified using the European Society for Medical Oncology criteria and confirmed by histopathological examination. Recurrence was reported in 17 of these patients. The study group consisted of patients with relapse. A control group of 51 patients was formed at a ratio of 3:1 according to age, stage, and grade, similar to that in the study group. Of the 17 patients with recurrent disease, 13 patients (76.5%) were Stage 1A, and 4 patients (23.5%) were Stage 1B. No significant difference was found in age, stage, and grade between the case and control groups (p > 0.05). Body mass index, parity, tumor size, lower uterine segment involvement, SqD, and Ki-67 index with p<0.25 in the univariate logistic regression analysis were included in the multivariate analysis. Ki-67 was statistically significant in multivariate analysis (p = 0.018); however, there was no statistical significance in SqD and other parameters. Our data suggest that the Ki-67 index rather than SqD needs to be assessed for recurrence in patients with low- and intermediate-risk EEC

    Airline companies has been incorporated various cooperation forms to handle risky situations arising from high competition level and to gain sustainable competitive advantages. The aim of this research is to reveal the transformation that strategic airline alliances and airline joint ventures have, with their current situation. In this research, which adopted the qualitative research design, semi-structured interviews were held with top executives of five traditional airline companies affiliated to strategic airline alliances and airline joint ventures. The most significant finding obtained as a result of the research is that airline companies affiliated with strategic airline alliances are beginning to question alliances’ structures though airlines accept that alliances are still valuable to them. Another remarkable finding is that airlines have begun to move out of classical form with newly launched form of joint venture

    Longitudinal assessment of intraocular pressure in premature infants

    Purpose: To investigate the longitudinal change in intraocular pressure (IOP) in premature infants and to establish a normative IOP value. Methods: Forty premature infants with a gestational age (GA) of 26 weeks were enrolled in this longitudinal study. Measurements were taken initially at 28 weeks postconceptional age (PCA) and at 2-week intervals up to 40 weeks PCA. Intraocular pressure was measured with a hand-held tonometer (Tono-Pen XL; Reichert Inc.). Results: From 40 (22 male, 18 female) premature Caucasian infants, seven (for each eye) IOP measurements were obtained. Mean GA was 26 weeks and mean birthweight was 820 ± 112 grams. The mean IOP was 15.1 ± 1.2 mm Hg and 14.9 ± 1.1 mm Hg for the right and left eyes, respectively. The mean IOP in both eyes for all measurements was 15.0 ± 1.1 mm Hg. At 28 weeks PCA, 9 (22.5%) preterm infants had IOP values greater than 20 mm Hg. The mean IOPs at 28 weeks, 30 weeks, 32 weeks, 34 weeks, 36 weeks, 38 weeks, and 40 weeks PCA were 18.7 ± 1.1 mm Hg, 16.9 ± 0.9 mm Hg, 15.3 ± 0.9 mm Hg, 14.1 ± 1.3 mm Hg, 13.7 ± 1.3 mm Hg, 13.4 ± 1.4 mm Hg, and 13.1 ± 1.3 mm Hg, respectively. A significant decrease in IOP measurements was found up to 34 weeks PCA, with no significant decline in IOP measurements after that point (F = 109.7, p<0.01). There was a negative correlation between IOP and PCA (r = −0.712, p<0.01). Conclusions: The mean IOP of premature infants was 15.0 ± 1.1 mm Hg and IOP values decreased significantly up to 34 weeks PCA, indicating a decline trend approaching the term period

    Objectives: Congenitally corrected transposition of great arteries with dextrocardia is an extremely rare lesion in adulthood. This group of patients does not live long enough for atherosclerotic coronary artery disease processes, because of existing comorbid anomalies. Methods: We report a 47-year-old man with isolated congenitally corrected transposition of great arteries, dextrocardia, and athersclerotic coronary artery disease. The patient underwent coronary artery revascularization with cardiopulmonary bypass. The free left internal mammary artery (LIMA) was grafted to the tiny left anterior descending artery (LAD), and the reversed saphenous vein Y graft was anastomosed to the posterior descending and posterolateral branches of the morphologic right coronary artery. Results: The patient recovered uneventfully. He is alive and well 24 months after the surgery. Conclusions: To our knowledge, the present case is the first congenitally corrected transposition of great arteries with dextrocardia treated with grafted coronary artery bypass. Early and full revascularization is very important for the systemic right ventricle exposed to a systemic workload. The vessel pathologies and technical details of this unusual case are discussed in this paper

    WOS: 000357806000018PubMed ID: 26104596Amblyopia is the most common cause of monocular decreased vision in children, with a prevalence of three to five per cent.1 Studies have demonstrated that refractive errors are the most common cause of amblyopia.2,3 Because amblyopia can be treated most effectively when treated early, screening for amblyopia is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Optometric Association.4 Refractive measurement of children is challenging but new technologies are helping to improve screening. Photoscreeners are gaining importance because of their portability and ease of use in examining young and disabled children (for example, those with autism).5,6 PlusoptiX S09 (Plusoptix®GmbH, Nuremberg, Germany) is a binocular, portable infrared video refractor which uses the dynamic photosciascopy method. As a digital photoscreener, it records digital video using infrared beams and analyses data in seconds using software installed on the minicomputer of the handpiece. At the beginning of a measurement, the PlusoptiX camera takes a few pictures to determine whether the refractive error is outside measurement range. If it is, a ‘measurement out of range’ error message is shown on screen. In addition, the operator will find the words ‘myopia’ or ‘hyperopia’ instead of refractive readings in the output to indicate which limitation was exceeded. The measurement is aborted in this case and the screening result is ‘refer’. The method used to detect whether the refractive error is outside the measurement range is proprietary (RJ Jacobs, personal communication). Studies suggest that non-cycloplegic photorefraction has reasonable sensitivity and specificity compared with cycloplegic retinoscopy.5,7 We present this case to show how a photoscreener can misdiagnose a patient with very high refractive error as emmetropia
