Based on high frequency data, this paper studies the volatility stylized facts of Chinese Treasury bond market (CTBM) in detail, including the best sampling frequency selected to compute the realized volatility, the conditional and unconditional distribution of the returns, the long memory property, the intraday, inter-day pattern of the returns and volatility, the asymmetry of volatility, and so on. The main conclusions about CTBM volatility are provided. 15 minute is best sampling frequency. The RV-based conditional distribution of return is nearly normal. Both return and volatility have significant inter-day but insignificant intraday periodicity. Moreover, the volatility asymmetry existing widely in stock or exchange market is not significant in Chinese Treasury bond market. Non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage due to ruptured middle cerebral artery aneurysm in a young lady: a challenge in diagnosis

    Get PDF
We present a case of a young lady who had subarachnoid hemorrhage and was initially misdiagnosed as acute sinusitis. High index of suspicion and ability to analyze her risk factors and associated electrocardiographic, biochemical and radiological findings eventually led to the right diagnosis and treatment. A high index of suspicion remains the cornerstone of diagnosis

Pulmonary hemorrhage associated with severe leptospirosis – the role of low dose intravenous methylprednisolone

    Get PDF
Leptospirosis has a wide range of presentation which ranges from mild flu-like symptoms, to severe form including renal failure, liver failure, and hemorrhage. Pulmonary involvement can progress from subtle clinical features to life threatening pulmonary hemorrhage and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Although benefits of corticosteroids in adult respiratory distress syndrome have been proven and accepted, evidence for use of corticosteroids in pulmonary leptospirosis is still limited. Given the vasculitic nature of severe leptospirosis, it has been proposed that addition of intravenous corticosteroid therapy, particularly in cases of pulmonary involvement is beneficial. We report a case of leptospirosis with suspected pulmonary hemorrhage which deteriorates after a few days of admission in our tertiary hospital. We have demonstrated that the prescription of a lower dose of corticosteroid than what was widely reported in the literature can equally led to a satisfactory recovery of the pulmonary hemorrhage

Surface Chern-Simons theory for third-order topological insulators and superconductors

Three-dimensional 3rd-order topological insulators (TOTIs) and superconductors (TOTSCs), as the highestorder topological phases hosting zero corner modes in physical dimension, has sparked extensive research interest. However, such topological states have not been discovered in reality due to the lack of experimental schemes of realization. Here, we propose a novel surface Chern-Simons (CS) theory for 3rd-order topological phases, and show that the theory enables a feasible and systematic design of TOTIs and TOTSCs. We show that the emergence of zero Dirac (Majorana) corner modes is entirely captured by an emergent Z2\mathbb{Z}_{2} CS term that can be further characterized by a novel two-particle Wess-Zumino (WZ) term uncovered here in the surfaces of three-dimensional topological materials. Importantly, our proposed CS term characterization and two-particle WZ term mechanism provide a unique perspective to design TOTIs (TOTSCs) in terms of minimal ingredients, feasibly guiding the search for underlying materials, with promising candidates being discussed. This work shall advance both the theoretical and experimental research for highest-order topological matters.Comment: 5+11 pages, 4+5 figure

Antibacterial Ti-Cu alloy with enhanced mechanical properties as implant applications

The service life as hard tissue implantation for clinical application needs compatible mechanical properties, e.g. strength, modulus, etc, and certain self-healing in case of internal infection. Therefore, for sake of improving the properties of Ti-Cu alloy, the microstructure, mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and antibacterial properties of Ti-xCu alloy (x = 2, 5, 7 and 10 wt.%) prepared by Ar-arc melting followed by heat treatment were studied. The results show that the Ti-Cu alloy was mainly composed of α-Ti matrix and precipitated Ti2Cu phase. The Cu element mainly accumulates in the lamellar structure and forms the precipitated Ti2Cu phase. As the increase of Cu content, the lamellar Ti2Cu phase increases, the compressive strength and elastic modulus also were altered. The Ti-7Cu alloy exhibited the higher compressive strength (2169 MPa) and the lower elastic modulus (108 GPa) compared with other Ti-Cu alloys. The corrosion resistance of Ti-xCu alloys increases with the increase of Cu content. When the Cu content was greater than 5 wt.%, the value of corrosion current density for Ti-Cu alloy was less than 1 μAcenterdotcm−2, which is also significantly lower than that of CP-Ti. The antibacterial test revealed that only the Ti-Cu alloy with 5 wt.% or greater Cu content could display a strong antibacterial rate against E. coli and S. aureus. Therefore, the prepared Ti-7Cu alloy via heat treatment showed excellent mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and antibacterial properties, which would meet the replacement of human hard tissue and clinical applications

AIM: To analyze the causes and evaluate the surgical effect of A-V patterns strabismus.<p>METHODS: Clinical data of 106 caseswith A-V patterns strabismus in our hospital from January 2011 to December 2012 were retrospectively analyzed. Seventy patients with oblique muscle overaction were performed weakening oblique muscle surgery to treat A-V pattern. Twenty-six patients with no abnormality of oblique muscle and superior and inferior rectus muscle, and with >20△ between gaze up 25° and down 25° in V pattern and with >15△ between gaze up 25° and down 25° in A pattern were performed horizontal rectus muscle transposition to half to one muscle tendon. While ten patients with no obvious abnormality of oblique muscle and vertical rectus muscle, and with ≤20△ between gaze up 25° and down 25° in V pattern and with ≤15△ between gaze up 25°and down 25° in A pattern were only performed horizontal rectus muscle surgery.<p>RESULTS: No A-V patterns was defined asnormotopia and A-V patterns >10△ was defined as overcorrection or undercorrection after surgery. In 106 cases, V pattern was corrected in 75 cases, overcorrected in 5 cases, undercorrected in 4 cases. A pattern was corrected in 15 cases, overcorrected in 3 cases, undercorrected in 4 cases. Horizontal strabismus >±10△ was defined as overcorrection or undercorrection after surgery. Eighty-five cases were corrected, 11 cases were undercorrected, and 10 cases were overcorrected.<p>CONCLUSION: A-V patterns strabismus was caused mainly by abnormal extraocular muscle. A-V patterns with abnormal oblique movement were treated by oblique surgery and A-V patterns with normal oblique and vertical rectus movement were treated by horizontal rectus muscle transposition, both which corrected A-V patterns. Patients had good distance and near stereopsis postoperation. Binocular weakening oblique muscle surgery can correct primary ocular position, so surgical design of horizontal deviation about A-V patterns strabismus with abnormal oblique muscle was considered
