Les Très Riches Heures et les Heures Bedford

The article presents new stylistic material in support of the discovery (in 2005) that the Bedford Hours were designed in the years 1414-1415, at the same time as the Très Riches Heures du duc de Berry. The Bedford Hours would appear to have been made for the dauphin, Louis de Guyenne, in light of the occurrence of several of his emblems under the principle miniatures, as well as the calendar programme, which is inspired by Ovid’s Fasti. The identification of the heraldry in the miniature of the history of the fl eur de lis (f. 288v) by Michel Pastoureau demonstrates that the miniature also represents the coronation of Henry V in 1429 in the presence of Philippe le Bon, Anne de Bourgogne and John de Mowbray, duke of Norfolk and earl marshall.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), Fundação Millennium bcp, Direcção Geral do Livro e das Bibliotecas/MC, Instituto de Estudos Medievais – FCSH/UN

O nascimento da Bíblia do século XIII

The article traces the precursors of the thirteenth-century Bible back to the 1140s at Chartres, signaling a series of medium and small sized Bibles made for the personal use of both the lay and ecclesiastical aristocracy, among whom are the counts of Champagne, St Bernard, Abbot Gilduin of St Victor, Pope Hadrian IV, and Abbot Simon of St Albans. These Bibles were often made as gifts, and incorporate new extra-biblical texts. One, which may have been a gift of Stephen Langton to Cîteaux, contains an authoritative listing of Langton’s new chapter divisions.Cet article présente les précurseurs des Bibles du 13e siècle jusqu’à la décennie de 1140, à Chartres, en identifiant une série de Bibles de moyenne et de petite taille faites pour un usage personnel aussi bien de l’aristocratie ecclésiastique que laïque, parmi lesquels se comptent les comtes de Champagne, saint Bernard, l’abbé Gilduin de Saint-Victor, le pape Adrien IV et l’abbé Simon de St. Albans. Ces Bibles étaient souvent destinées à être des cadeaux et incorporaient de nouveaux textes extra-bibliques. Une de ces Bibles, qui peut avoir été un cadeau pour Stephen Langton à Cîteaux, contient une liste autorisée des nouvelles divisions en chapitres de Langton.Este artigo caracteriza os precursores da Bíblia do século XIII até à década de 1140, em Chartres, identificando uma série de Bíblias de tamanho médio e pequeno feitas para uso pessoal tanto da aristocracia leiga quanto eclesiástica, entre as quais se incluem os condes de Champanhe, São Bernardo, o abade Gilduin de São Victor, o papa Adriano IV e o abade Simão de Santo Albano. Essas bíblias eram muitas vezes feitas como presentes e incorporavam novos textos extra bíblicos. Genomic investigations of unexplained acute hepatitis in children

Since its first identification in Scotland, over 1,000 cases of unexplained paediatric hepatitis in children have been reported worldwide, including 278 cases in the UK1. Here we report an investigation of 38 cases, 66 age-matched immunocompetent controls and 21 immunocompromised comparator participants, using a combination of genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and immunohistochemical methods. We detected high levels of adeno-associated virus 2 (AAV2) DNA in the liver, blood, plasma or stool from 27 of 28 cases. We found low levels of adenovirus (HAdV) and human herpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B) in 23 of 31 and 16 of 23, respectively, of the cases tested. By contrast, AAV2 was infrequently detected and at low titre in the blood or the liver from control children with HAdV, even when profoundly immunosuppressed. AAV2, HAdV and HHV-6 phylogeny excluded the emergence of novel strains in cases. Histological analyses of explanted livers showed enrichment for T cells and B lineage cells. Proteomic comparison of liver tissue from cases and healthy controls identified increased expression of HLA class 2, immunoglobulin variable regions and complement proteins. HAdV and AAV2 proteins were not detected in the livers. Instead, we identified AAV2 DNA complexes reflecting both HAdV-mediated and HHV-6B-mediated replication. We hypothesize that high levels of abnormal AAV2 replication products aided by HAdV and, in severe cases, HHV-6B may have triggered immune-mediated hepatic disease in genetically and immunologically predisposed children
