The Journalist Discourse on Political Corruption. A Comparative Analysis of the SQM case in Chile and the Bárcenas case in Spain

Este artículo empírico analiza cualitativamente el tratamiento periodístico de la corrupción política en España y en Chile. Concretamente, se centra en el caso chileno “Soquimich” y en el caso español “Bárcenas”. Para ello, se compara el discurso noticioso de los diarios chilenos El Mercurio y La Tercera y de los periódicos españoles El País y El Mundo en relación a los siguientes ejes: 1) Rol de los personajes y caracterización de los mismos y 2) Estrategias discursivas subyacentes en el discurso mediático. Si bien existen diferencias en la cobertura noticiosa en ambos países, los resultados obtenidos permiten concluir que el tratamiento de la corrupción es simplificado e incompleto. Eso se debe a que los relatos analizados se focalizan en los “corruptos” sin cuestionar las verdaderas raíces de la corrupción.This empirical article analyzes qualitatively press coverage of political corruption in Spain and Chile. Specifically, the study focuses on the Chilean case “Soquimich” and in the Spanish case “Barcenas”. For this purpose, the news discourse of Chilean daily El Mercurio and La Tercera and Spanish newspapers El País and El Mundo were compared regarding the following axes: 1) Role of the characters and characterization of them and 2) Discursive strategies underlayed by the media discourse. While there are differences in news coverage of corruption in both countries, the results obtained indicate that treatment of corruption is simplified and incomplete. That is because the stories analyzed are focused on corrupt —the particular characters— without questioning the real roots of corruption

This paper deals with Walt Whitman's poetry in a very non-convential way, and it tries to explore some of his well-known features which place him as the initiator of a colective poetry. Whitman remains mid-way between "palefaces" and "redskins" and, in our opinión, he represents a new starting point from which the quest for unity is essential. For that reason we study in our paper two of the main ideas he develops in his poetry: the idea of Identification (identity) between the self and the other, and the idea of the visión of the American world, the American soul, as a mass of people on permanent pilgrimage along an inmense green-grass field. We bring to our paper the medieval dream-vision metaphor because we think that Whitman has this medieval visionary tone; on the other hand we quote Federico García Lorca's "Oda a Walt Whitman" for the Spanish poet sees in Whitman that deep concern with humanity

Education for democratic citizenship in Angola: the role of education for citizenship en welfare – a study in the community of Luanda province

Pretendemos caracterizar o perfil sociodemográfico dos encarregados de educação ou pais e comunidade educativa da província de Luanda – Angola; compreendendo-se a importância atribuída à Educação para a Cidadania e os níveis de bem-estar subjetivo. Estudámos uma amostra constituída por 1156 elementos. Como instrumentos de recolha de informação utilizamos um Questionário sociodemográfico e, também, a Escala de Bem-Estar Subjectivo (EBES) de Albuquerque e Tróccoli (2004). Os resultados revelam que os pais e/ou encarregados de educação atribuem importância à educação para a cidadania, considerando o contexto familiar, a igreja e a escola como locais, potencialmente, promotores do desenvolvimento pessoal e escolar das crianças. Os resultados globais de Bem-Estar apresentam valores positivos nas duas subescalas e 4 questões (do questionário da Comunidade) estavam correlacionadas positivamente com o índice de Bem-estar - Sentimentos e Emoções e com o índice de Opinião sobre a própria vida

Liderazgo y gestión clínica de un servicio de ginecología de Latacunga Ecuador, 2022

El objetivo de la presente investigación fue determinar la relación entre liderazgo y gestión de un servicio de ginecología de Latacunga Ecuador, 2022 Fue de enfoque cuantitativo; tipo básica, no experimental y diseño descriptivo correlacional. Se aplicó la encuesta, recolectando información a través de cuestionarios, los cuales fueron adaptados de trabajos previos y que fueron validadas en su momento. La población considerada fue de 120 usuarias externas y 30 usuarios internos, recabando información sobre la apreciación que ellos tienen sobre el liderazgo y la gestión clínica. Los resultados obtenidos indican una predominancia de nivel regular en el liderazgo y en la gestión, por otra parte, el índice de correlación obtenido entre el liderazgo y la gestión clínica fue positivo y moderado, y dado el nivel de significancia estadística de p<0,1 permitió aceptar la hipótesis alterna, estableciendo una relación positiva entre liderazgo y gestión

Quantum effects on t→H+bt\to H^{+} b in the MSSM: a window to ``virtual'' supersymmetry?

We analyze the one-loop effects (strong and electroweak) on the unconventional top quark decay mode $t\rightarrow H^{+} b$ within the MSSM. The results are presented in the on-shell renormalization scheme with a physically well motivated definition of $\tan\beta$. The study of this process at the quantum level is useful to unravel the potential supersymmetric nature of the charged Higgs emerging from that decay. As compared with the standard mode $t\rightarrow W^{+} b$, the corrections to $t\rightarrow H^{+} b$ are large, slowly decoupling and persist at a sizeable level even for all sparticle masses well above the LEP 200 discovery range. As a matter of fact, the potential size of the SUSY effects, which amount to corrections of several ten percent, could counterbalance the standard QCD corrections and even make them to appear with the ``wrong'' sign. Therefore, if the charged Higgs decay of the top quark is kinematically allowed -a possibility which is not excluded by the recent measurements of the branching ratio $BR(t\rightarrow W^{+} b)$ at the Tevatron - it could be an invaluable laboratory to search for ``virtual'' supersymmetry. While a first significant test of these effects could possibly be performed at the upgraded Tevatron, a more precise verification would most likely be carried out in future experiments at the LHC.Comment: 60 pages, LaTeX, 25 figs included as a separate file, full postscript version avaliable at ftp://ftp.ifae.es/preprint/ft/uabft397.ps . Heavy charged Higgs boson decaying into top quark in the MSSM

Observing a heavy charged Higgs boson produced in the near future at the Tevatron or at the LHC would be instant evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model. Whether such a Higgs boson would be supersymmetric or not it could only be decided after accurate prediction of its properties. Here we compute the decay width of the dominant decay of such a boson, namely H^+ -> t \bar{b}, including the leading electroweak corrections originating from large Yukawa couplings within the MSSM. These electroweak effects turn out to be of comparable size to the O(alpha_s) QCD corrections in relevant portions of the MSSM parameter space.
