    Is there a trade-off between supervision and wage? Evidence from a metal mechanical firm in southern Brazil

    The objective of this work was to test the existence of a trade-off between supervision and wages in a metal mechanical firm in Southern Brazil. The methodology used to assess the effects on productivity and the worker efficiency was the differences-in-differences estimator. Evaluating the results, it was found that with increased supervision, there was an increase in productivity ranging between 13.5% and 26.8%. Therefore, with increased productivity, the company has to choose between increasing the level of supervision, at a cost of US624.98orpracticingefficiencywagesatacostofUS 624.98 or practicing efficiency wages at a cost of US 2,907.72.The objective of this work was to test the existence of a trade-off between supervision and wages in a metal mechanical firm in Southern Brazil.     Este artigo discute um problema real de faturamento nulo de uma plataforma de venda de ingressos on-line e tem como objetivo analisar quais as causas da baixa atratividade da empresa no mercado on-line, visando o segmento de terapias holísticas. A relevância da pesquisa apoia-se no fato do mercado on-line estar aumentando 7,5% ao ano e o segmento de terapias holísticas ter sido incluído na lista de cobertura do Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) brasileiro. A abordagem da pesquisa foi qualitativa, de cunho exploratório. O método de pesquisa adotado foi o estudo de caso e os dados foram coletados a partir de entrevista com as sócias fundadoras da empresa, análise dos planos de negócio, documentos da empresa e quantidade de acesso à plataforma. Com intuito de identificar a causa raiz da baixa atratividade, foi utilizado o processo de raciocínio da Teoria das Restrições, através da construção da Árvore da Realidade Atual (ARA), acompanhada da Árvore da Realidade Futura (ARF). Dentre os resultados da pesquisa foi identificado que as causas raízes para o faturamento nulo são: falta de um plano para desenvolvimento de clientes; falta de um plano para vendas recorrentes; incapacidade em firmar contrato com os organizadores; não elaboração de um plano de marketing digital, dentre outros. Em termos gerenciais destaca-se que os resultados desta pesquisa podem trazer incentivos ou pontos de alavancagem para a empresa tornar-se sustentável financeiramente.

    O objetivo dessa dissertação foi testar a existência de um trade-off entre supervisão e salário em uma firma do ramo metal mecânico brasileiro, chamada Bruning Tecnometal Ltda. Foram examinados e testados os efeitos sobre o desempenho e a produtividade dos trabalhadores após a uma alteração no grau de supervisão na linha de montagem de tanques de combustível em alumínio. A experiência do caso Bruning corrobora as hipóteses da teoria de salário eficiência (shirking), a qual aponta que um aumento no grau de supervisão reduz o “corpo mole” dos trabalhadores e o comportamento de moral hazard. Os resultados indicaram que existe uma relação negativa entre supervisão e salário, sendo assim, cabe à firma escolher entre aumentar a supervisão ou aumentar os salários para manter o mesmo nível de esforço. O estudo de caso da Bruning, assim, é consistente com as predições geradas pelo modelo shirking referente aos salários eficiência.The objective of this dissertation was testing the existence of a trade-off between supervision and wages in a Brazilian metal mechanical industry, called Bruning Tecnometal Ltda. The experience of Bruning’s case strongly corroborates with the relevance of the theory of efficiency wages (shirking), which indicates that an increase in the degree of supervision reduces the shirking of workers and the behavior of moral hazard. The dissertation concludes that there is a negative relation between wages and supervision, so that, it is the company responsibility to choose between increasing supervision or raising wages, to maintain the same effort level. This case thus is consistent with the predictions generated by the model regarding the shirking efficiencywages

    Evaluation of Sustainability Practices in Small and Medium-Sized Manufacturing Enterprises in Southern Brazil

    The purpose of this article is to analyze the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) manufacturing, aiming to identify the main practices of sustainability, including the values and transparency, internal audience, environment, supplier relationships, customer and/or consumer relationships, and community relationships. In order to develop this research, a questionnaire was applied on the subject in question, through which the companies were classified as to their reality in relation to corporate social responsibility. Based on the analysis, it was observed that five of these companies obtained a score that indicates that the companies have already assimilated the associated concepts and are clear of the necessary commitments for a socially responsible action. However, given the results obtained, it is possible to conclude that there is a need to strengthen the actions to be taken with regard to corporate social responsibility, since no company has positioned itself in excellence. In addition, some suggestions for new research were identified and discussed in the analysis of the results
