Management consulting.
Including a lengthy, comprehensive introduction, this important collection brings together some of the most influential papers that have contributed to our understanding of management consultancy work. The two-volume set encompasses the breadth of conceptual and empirical perspectives and explores those key ideas that have helped to advance our knowledge of this intriguing area. The volumes are divided into a series of thematic sections, affording the reader easy access to a great resource of information. Professors Clark and Avakian have written an original introduction which provides a comprehensive overview of the literature
Atomic Diffusion in the Surface State of Mott Insulator NiS2
We present resistivity measurements of Mott insulator NiS2 single crystals
after heat treatment. We find a strong increase of the low temperature
resistivity that relaxes back towards the pristine behaviour over several days
with a time constant of 45 h at room temperature. The low temperature
resistivity has previously been shown to be dominated by surface conduction (T.
Thio and J. Bennett, PRB 50 10574 1994). Consequently, the changes induced by
heat treatment are attributed to changes to surface states. Our results suggest
the creation of vacancies in the surface that re refilled from the bulk via
atomic diffusion. We estimate a diffusion constant of
m/s at room temperature. We identify sulphur vacancies as the most likely
to form via oxidisation of sulphur forming volatile SO2 during heat treatment.
Our results point towards these sulphur vacancies to be the source of surface
state localisation in NiS2.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures. Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials

Entanglement and entropy engineering of atomic two-qubit states
We propose a scheme employing quantum-reservoir engineering to controllably
entangle the internal states of two atoms trapped in a high finesse optical
cavity. Using laser and cavity fields to drive two separate Raman transitions
between metastable atomic ground states, a system is realized corresponding to
a pair of two-state atoms coupled collectively to a squeezed reservoir.
Phase-sensitive reservoir correlations lead to entanglement between the atoms,
and, via local unitary transformations and adjustment of the degree and purity
of squeezing, one can prepare entangled mixed states with any allowed
combination of linear entropy and entanglement of formation.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, REVTe
The Akulov-Volkov Lagrangian, Symmetry Currents and Spontaneously Broken Extended Supersymmetry
A generalization of the Akulov-Volkov effective Lagrangian governing the self
interactions of the Nambu-Goldstone fermions associated with spontaneously
broken extended supersymmetry as well as their coupling to matter is presented
and scrutinized. The resulting currents associated with R-symmetry,
supersymmetry and space-time translations are constructed and seen to form a
supermultiplet structure.Comment: 17 pages, LaTeX; Title, abstract and introduction changes, references

THE POLITICAL INSTITUTIONAL DETERMINANTS OF LAND-USE CHANGE AND SPRAWL: A CONCEPTUAL MODEL
This paper proposes a conceptual land-use change model that includes a framework for analyzing the political institutional determinants of land-use change. The model is used to explain several previous empirical findings and to generate testable hypotheses. The government bias for sprawl is addressed in the context of the model.Land-use change, sprawl, sprawl bias, planning and zoning
Nuclear thermal propulsion workshop overview
NASA is planning an Exploration Technology Program as part of the Space Exploration Initiative to return U.S. astronauts to the moon, conduct intensive robotic exploration of the moon and Mars, and to conduct a piloted mission to Mars by 2019. Nuclear Propulsion is one of the key technology thrust for the human mission to Mars. The workshop addresses NTP (Nuclear Thermal Rocket) technologies with purpose to: assess the state-of-the-art of nuclear propulsion concepts; assess the potential benefits of the concepts for the mission to Mars; identify critical, enabling technologies; lay-out (first order) technology development plans including facility requirements; and estimate the cost of developing these technologies to flight-ready status. The output from the workshop will serve as a data base for nuclear propulsion project planning
Status of the DOE/NASA critical gas turbine research and technology project
Activities performed in order to provide an R&T data base for utility gas turbine systems burning coal-derived fuels are described. Experiments were run to determine the corrosivity effects of trace metal contaminants (and potential fuel additives) on gas turbine materials and these results were correlated in a corrosion-life prediction model. Actual fuels were burned in a burner rig hot corrosion test to verify the model. A deposition prediction model was assembled and compared with results of actual coal-derived fuel deposition tests. Thermal barrier coatings were tested to determine their potential for protecting gas turbine hardware from the corrosive contaminants. Several coatings were identified with significantly improved spallation-resistance (and, hence, corrosion resistance)
Multi-Plaintiff Litigation in Australia: A Comparative Perspective
Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms, laid out in a hexagonal lattice. The material has remarkable properties that opened up several new research areas since its discovery in 2004. One promising field is graphene based biosensors, where researchers hope to create new devices that are smaller, cheaper and more reliable than those based on today’s technology. Among several manufacturing methods, graphene grown on silicon carbide is one of the promising ones for biosensing. A chip design has been developed in order to support research into graphene on silicon carbide as a base material for biosensors. Along with the chip, a holder for electrochemical measurements has been designed and an investigation into the requirements of a custom measurement device for the sensor has been undertaken
