    VISUAL ANALYSIS OF THE CLASSROOM TEACHER CANDIDATES’ METAPHORICAL PERCEPTIONS RELATED TO THE MATHEMATICS COURSE

    The aim of this study is to evaluate the classroom teacher candidates’ metaphorical perceptions about the mathematics course through the visuals they create. The sample of the study consists of 36 classroom teacher candidates studying at a state university in Istanbul. The case study, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used as the research design of this study. As a data collection tool, the metaphorical perception form prepared by the researchers, which includes the instruction “Draw what comes to your mind first when we say mathematics lesson and explain the drawing you have created” was used. In the analysis of the data, the visuals created by the teacher candidates or the pictures they drew were analyzed in detail. The metaphors formed by the classroom teacher candidates within the scope of the sample have been grouped under 4 categories: affective situations, impact on life, school and classroom environment, mathematical expressions and concepts in line with the opinions of the experts. As a result of the study, it was seen that the classroom teacher candidates mostly expressed the school and the classroom environment related to the mathematics lesson. In addition, it was found that mathematical expressions and concepts were also found to be an effective factor related to mathematics lesson by teacher candidates. Another finding is the association between mathematics lesson and daily life. Expressions such as being happy-unhappy, anxiety, confusion, and love when it comes to mathematics lessons are also the findings in the affective states category. Recommendations for the research and researchers were given by discussing the research findings. Article visualizations

    The Effect of Using Mathematical Games on Primary School 4th Grade Students’ Attitudes towards Mathematics Course and Their Visual Metaphorical Perceptions

    The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of using mathematical games on 4th grade students’ attitudes towards mathematics course and their visual metaphoric perceptions. The study was conducted with 101 students in a public school in Istanbul. Mixed method research design was used in the study. The attitude scale prepared by Baykul (1990) was applied as pre-test and post-test to the students in the experimental and control groups. At the same time, the metaphoric perception form which was formed to understand the visual metaphoric perceptions of the students was applied as pre-test and post-test to the experimental group students. According to the findings, it was seen that the mathematical games which were applied did not make a significant difference on students’ attitudes. However, significant differences were found in visual metaphors created by students. As a result of the detailed analysis of the elements in visual metaphors, it was observed that the use of mathematical games generally affected the metaphorical perceptions of students about mathematics positively

    Bu araştırmanın amacı, PISA matematik okuryazarlığı testinden elde edilen puanların farklı değişkenlere göre incelenmesi, madde güçlük indeksine göre düzey ataması yapılması, soruların hatalı çözülme durumlarının kritik edilmesi ve düzeylere yönelik gösterge tablosu oluşturulmasıdır. Araştırmanın amacı doğrultusunda tarama yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini Türkiye genelinde çeşitli liselerde öğrenim görmekte olan 1440 lise öğrencisi ve yine Türkiye genelinde çeşitli ortaokullarda ve liselerde görev yapmakta olan 201 matematik öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada öğrencilerden elde edilen bulgular sonucunda öğrencilerin 4. ve 5. düzeylerde toplandığı, erkek öğrencilerin matematik okuryazarlığı düzeylerinin kız öğrencilerden daha iyi, fen liseleri en başarılı okullar, Akdeniz bölgesi en başarılı bölge, hazırlık sınıfında öğrenim görmekte olan öğrencilerin en başarılı grup, 81-90 ve 91-100 matematik karne puanları olan öğrencilerin en başarılı olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin sıklıkla okuduklarını anlamada sorun yaşadıkları ve işlem hataları yaptıkları belirlenmiştir. Sorular madde güçlük indeksine göre incelendiğinde ise sorulara PISA tarafından verilmiş olan düzeylerle, bulunan düzeyler arasında farklılıklar olduğu görülmüştür. Öğretmenlerin yeterlik düzeyi tablosunu anlaşılır buldukları ancak sorulara düzey verme konusunda sıkıntı yaşamış oldukları tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencilerden ve öğretmenlerden elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda oluşturulmuş olan gösterge tablosunun dili sadeleştirilmiş ve düzeylerde yapılabilen yeterliklerle ilgili örnekler verilmiştir. Araştırma bu alanda araştırma yapacak olan araştırmacılara öneriler sunularak sonlandırılmıştır.The aim of this study is to examine the scores obtained from the PISA mathematical literacy test according to different variables, to assign levels according to the item difficulty index, to criticize the cases of incorrect resolution of the questions and to create an indicator table for the levels. In line with the purpose of the research, the scanning method was used. The sample of the research consists of 1440 high school students studying in various high schools throughout Turkey and 201 mathematics teachers working in various secondary schools and high schools throughout Turkey. As a result of the findings obtained from the students in the study, it was concluded that the students gathered at the 4th and 5th levels, that the mathematical literacy levels of male students are better than the female students, that science high schools are the most successful schools, that the Mediterranean region is the most successful region, that the students studying in the preparatory class are the most successful group, and that 81-90 and 91-100 mathematics report card scores were the most successful. In addition, it was determined that students often had problems in understanding what they read and made operational errors. When the questions were analyzed according to the item difficulty index, it was seen that there were differences between the levels given to the questions by PISA and the levels found. It was determined that the teachers found the proficiency level table to be understandable, but they had difficulties in assigning a level to the questions. The language of the dashboard, which was created in line with the data obtained from the students and teachers, has been simplified and examples of the competencies that can be done at the levels are given. The research was concluded by presenting suggestions to the researchers who will conduct research in this field

    YÖK Tez ID: 444300Kompozit polimer filmlerin morfolojik ve iyonik iletkenlik özelliklerini geliştirmek için en iyi yollardan biri polimere Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2, ZrO2, NiO gibi anorganik dolgu maddelerinin eklenmesidir. Anorganik dolgu maddelerinin polimere eklenmesi, katı polimer elektrolitlerin iletkenliğini arttırır. Tez çalışmasının ilk aşamasında, NiCl2 ve NaHCO3 anorganik başlangıç malzemeleri kullanılarak iki aşamalı kimyasal yöntem ile nano yapılı NiO malzemeleri sentezlendi. Kalsinasyon sıcaklığının elde edilen son nanopartiküllerin özelliklerine etkisini incelemek için, nanopartiküllerin sentezi 400 °C ve 600 °C sıcaklıklarında gerçekleştirildi. Nanopartiküllerin kristal doğası, mikroyapısı, morfolojisi ve spesifik yüzey alanını karakterize etmek için XRD, FTIR, Raman, SEM, TEM ve N2 absorpsiyon-desorpsiyon izotermleri kullanıldı. Optik özellikleri UV-GB kullanılarak analiz edildi. XRD analizleri hazırlanan nanopartiküllerin kübik NiO'lerden oluştuğunu gösterdi. Tez çalışmasının ikinci aşaması, ev sahibi polimer olarak kullanılabilecek ROMP polimerlerin sentezi ile ilgilidir. Ekzo-N-fenil-7-oksanorbornen-5,6-dikarboksimid (ekzo-PhONDI) ve yeni ekzo-N-benzil-7-oksanorbornen-5,6-dikarboksimid (ekzo-PhCH2ONDI) monomerleri Diels-Alder reaksiyonları ile sentezlendi. Polinorbornen türevleri 1.nesil rutenyum alkiliden başlatıcısı, [(PCy3)2Cl2Ru=CHPh], kullanılarak halka açılımı metatez polimerizasyon yöntemi ile elde edildi. Polinorbornen türevlerinin yapısal özellikleri NMR, FTIR, DSC, TGA ve GPC ile analiz edildi. Ekzo-PPhONDI ve ekzo-PPhCH2ONDI polimerlerinin Tg değerleri sırasıyla 211.56 °C ve 168.34 °C olarak gözlendi. Tezin son bölümünde PPhONDI-LiClO4-NiO ve PPhCH2ONDI-LiClO4-NiO sistemlerine dayalı nanokompozit katı polimer filmleri hazırlandı ve farklı miktarlarda nano-NiO dolgu maddesinin film özellikleri üzerine etkisi incelendi. Kompozit polimer filmler çözelti döküm tekniği ile hazırlandı. NiO nanopartikül miktarı ağırlıkça %1 ile 15 arasında değiştirildi. PPhONDI polimerine dayalı katı nanokompozit polimer filmlerde en yüksek iletkenlik ağırlıkça %8 oranında NiO dolgu maddesi ve %10 LiClO4 doplama malzemesi bileşimi ile elde edildi. Hazırlanan filmler XRD, FTIR, DSC ve TGA ile karakterize edildi.Kompozit polimer elektrolit filmlerin morfolojisi SEM ile incelendi. SEM sonuçları dolgu maddesinin polimer matriks içinde homojen olarak dağıldığını gösterdi.One of the most promising ways to improve the morphological and ionic conductivity properties of composite polymer films is addition of inorganic fillers such as, Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2, ZrO2, NiO. The addition of inorganic fillers into polymers improves the conductivity of solid polymer electrolytes. In the first part of the thesis, nanostructured NiO materials were synthesized by the two steps chemical method using NiCl2 and NaHCO3 as inorganic precursors. The synthesis of nanoparticles was carried out at 400 °C and 600 °C to examine the effect of the calcination temperature on the quality of the obtained final nanoparticles. XRD, FTIR, Raman, SEM, TEM and N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms were used to characterize the crystalline nature, microstructure, morphology and specific surface area of the nanoparticles. The optical properties were analyzed using UV-Vis. The XRD analysis shows that the prepared nanoparticles has composed of cubic NiO. The second part of the thesis is concerned with the synthesis of ROMP polymers for using as the host polymer. Exo-N-phenyl-7-oxanorbornene-5,6-dicarboximide (exo-PhONDI) and new exo-N-benzyl-7-oxanorbornene-5,6-dicarboximide (exo-PhCH2ONDI) monomers were synthesized by the Diels–Alder reactions. Polynorbornene derivatives were obtained via ring opening metathesis polymerization using first-generation ruthenium alkylidene initiator, [(PCy3)2Cl2Ru=CHPh]. The structural properties of the polynorbornene derivatives were analyzed by NMR, FTIR, DSC, TGA and GPC. Tgs for polymer exo-PPhONDI and exo-PPhCH2ONDI were observed at 211.56 °C and 168.34 °C, respectively. In the final part of the thesis, nanocomposite solid polymer films based on PPhONDI-LiClO4-NiO and PPhCH2ONDI-LiClO4-NiO systems have been prepared and the effect of inorganic nano-NiO filler with different amounts on the film properties has been examined. Composite polymer films were prepared via the solution-casting technique. The amount of nanoparticle was varied from 1 to 15 wt.% of NiO. The solid nanocomposite polymer films based on PPhONDI polymer with highest conductivity was achieved for the composition with 8 wt.% of nano-NiO filler and 10 wt.% of LiClO4 dopant. The prepared films were characterized using XRD, FTIR, DSC and TGA. Morphology of the composite polymer electrolyte films was examined by SEM. The SEM results showed that the filler was homogeneously distributed in the polymer matrix
