The family plays a fundamental role in the transmission and learning of gender roles. Therefore,
the aim of this study was to explore what messages transmitted from parents to their children at early ages of development. Data was collected through 8 of CIACS-1 (Ballester and Gil, 1999) in a
sample of 332 parents of children between 4 and 8 years from Valencian Community (Spain). The
results indicate that 27,2% held the belief that children should play right things to their sex, 18,1%
distributed household by gender and 13,5% believe that masturbation is bad for health. Moreover,
less than half of the sample claimed to have spoken with your child about sexual topics. This percentage
increases as the children grow older, taking a significant change around 5-6 years. No statistically
significant differences were found by gender, so we can consider that the parents in our sample
are not differentiated information if boy or girl. In conclusion, it is important to design prevention
programs aimed at parents who contribute to the transformation of the stereotypical conceptions.
No aparecen diferencias

Metodología. Se administró la Escala de Resiliencia para Adultos (Hjemdal, 2007;
autoeficacia.Introduction. Resilience is defined as a global construct which includes processes and
protective factors that facilitate good results, despite living stressful experiences (Hjemdal, 2007). Present study aims to analyze the resilience in women with chronic pain and to examine a possible relationship between this variable, depressive symptoms and adaptation to illness.
Method. Resilience Scale for Adults (Friborg et al., 2003; translation and adaptation
process by Castañeiras et al., 2010), Inadaptation Scale (Echeburúa et al. 2000) and
the Beck Depression Inventory (Beck et al., 1996) were administered to 11 women with
chronic pain (mean time to diagnosis 13.4 years and mean pain intensity 2.83 out of 5)
and a mean age of 53.91 years (SD = 3.56).
Results. This sample reveals medium-high scores for all dimensions, especially in those
concerning the social area. There were no statistically significant relationships between
resilience and age, time of diagnosis and pain sensation. However, there are statistically
significant negative relationships between depression and dimensions: perception of self
(p = .010) and social resources (p = .017). Similarly, women who have more social resources perceive less social interference because of the disease (p = .030).
Discussion. The social context is relevant to deal with complicated situations adaptively.
Moreover, the belief in one’s own resources and perceived social support decrease
depressive symptomatology. Interventions should aim to keep the social dimension
and promote self-confidence and self-efficacy
Effectiveness of a Brief Multi-Component Intervention to HIV Prevention Among Spanish Youth
The greater rate of HIV infection occurs before age 30 in Spain. Our aim was to evaluate the long-term impact of a brief HIV preventive intervention on key sexual risk behavior components in Spanish young population. Participants were 467 young people aged 18–25 years who participated in B-PAPY intervention. They were evaluated at four times: a week, a month, three months and one year after intervention. A self-administered instrument was used. It was found a significant increase from pre-test to follow-ups in HIV knowledge, HIV susceptibility perception, confidence in condom and use of condoms. There were decreases statistically significant in the perceived severity of AIDS. The HIV intervention showed effectiveness over time in the main risk variables for HIV infection. Brief multi-component HIV interventions would be a useful resource to generalize HIV prevention
Influence of beliefs about romantic love on the justification of abusive behaviors among early adolescents
Introduction
Romantic experiences during adolescence have an important influence on functioning later in life. Romantic love has been associated with the acceptance of abusive behaviors. This study examined the relationship between myths of romantic love and the perceived severity of different types of abusive behaviors, as well as the influence of gender.
Methods
The sample comprised 448 Spanish adolescents (M = 12.92 years old; SD = 0.85), of which 50.3% were male and 49.7% were female. Participants were evaluated in the school setting. The Perception of Abuse Scale and the Myths, Fallacies, and Misconceptions about Romantic Love Scale were administered.
Results
Statistically significant negative associations between the myths of romantic love and the perceived severity of abusive behaviors were found. Myths regarding possession, dedication, and exclusivity were associated with a lower perceived severity of abusive behaviors in adolescent males. Myths regarding the omnipotence of love were associated with a lower perceived severity of abusive behaviors in adolescent females. Believing in jealousy as a demonstration of love (myth of jealousy) and in the need to establish a steady union when you love someone (marriage myth) explained a lower perceived severity of abusive behaviors in regression models. However, being female and having these beliefs explained a higher perceived severity of abusive behaviors.
Conclusions
The myths of romantic love are already present during early adolescence. These beliefs are implicated in the construction of gender inequality and difficulties in the identification of dating abuse behavior severity. A gendered perspective is necessary to understand this issue. Early intervention strategies should address the cognitive and emotional components of intimate relationships.Funding for open access charge: CRUE-Universitat Jaume
Explanatory Psychological Factors of Inconsistently Condom Use among Spanish University Students: Gender Differences
More than 50% of Spanish youth does not use of condoms correctly and consistently. University students are
a particular population at high risk of the HIV infection, other STIs and unwanted pregnancies. The influence
of psychological variables in using of condom is analyzed by gender and type of sexual relationship. A total
of 256 females and 168 males were assessed (Mage= 20.62; SD = 2.16). A regression logistic analysis
showed that sexual sensation seeking appears as an explanatory variable of inconsistently condom use in
both females and males in vaginal intercourse, steady relationship intercourse and sex under the alcohol and
other drugs effects (adjusted odds ratio between 1.095 and 1.124). Moreover, self-esteem appears as a risk
factor and extraversion as a protective factor of use of condom in females. On the other hand, neuroticism
reveals itself as a protective factor and fear of negative evaluation as a risk factor of use of condom in
males. It is necessary to know the psychological mechanisms that underlie sexual risk behaviors for adapting
interventions to individual and contextual characteristics
The teenage love: Do Spanish early-middle adolescents believe in the romantic love?
Romantic beliefs are associated to attachment anxiety, acceptability of abusive relationships and justification of violent behavior. Adolescence is a crucial stage for the consolidation of identity. The aim of this study is to analyze the myths of romantic love and examine gender differences among 448 Span-ish early-middle adolescents (M = 12.92; SD = 0.85) that were attending the first and second year of the Spanish secondary education. The Myths, Fallacies and Misconceptions about Romantic Love Scale by Luzón et al. (2011) was administered in the classrooms during tutoring hours and was supervised by a group of psychologists. Results showed that out of the total of 18 myths of romantic love in the evaluation, the average number that the adolescents said they believed in was 9.03 (SD = 3.13). The highest scores were obtained in factors named “Love implies possession and exclusivity” and “True love is predestined”. The better-half myth, the myth of jealousy and the idea of love between couples is the fundamental reason behind the ex-istence were the most frequent beliefs. Statistically significant gender differences were found. Adolescent males reported that they believed in a higher number of myths of romantic love and obtained the highest percentages in most beliefs in myths. Findings show shows that biases and fallacies related to romantic love have already been formed in early adolescence and that appears differentially according to gender. These results can be useful in the planning and design of preventive programs.
