Distributions of secondary muons at sea level from cosmic gamma rays below 10 TeV
The FLUKA Monte Carlo program is used to predict the distributions of the
muons which originate from primary cosmic gamma rays and reach sea level. The
main result is the angular distribution of muons produced by vertical gamma
rays which is necessary to predict the inherent angular resolution of any
instrument utilizing muons to infer properties of gamma ray primaries.
Furthermore, various physical effects are discussed which affect these
distributions in differing proportions.Comment: 36 pages, 13 figures, minor revision, new layou
Algebras from surfaces without punctures
We introduce a new class of finite dimensional gentle algebras, the surface
algebras, which are constructed from an unpunctured Riemann surface with
boundary and marked points by introducing cuts in internal triangles of an
arbitrary triangulation of the surface. We show that surface algebras are
endomorphism algebras of partial cluster-tilting objects in generalized cluster
categories, we compute the invariant of Avella-Alaminos and Geiss for surface
algebras and we provide a geometric model for the module category of surface
algebras.Comment: 34 pages, 16 figures, 1 table, v2 reference adde
Small parts in the Bernoulli sieve
Sampling from a random discrete distribution induced by a `stick-breaking'
process is considered. Under a moment condition, it is shown that the
asymptotics of the sequence of occupancy numbers, and of the small-parts counts
(singletons, doubletons, etc) can be read off from a limiting model involving a
unit Poisson point process and a self-similar renewal process on the halfline.Comment: conference pape
Amphibia, Anura, Hylidae, Scinax granulatus (Peters, 1871): distribution extension in central Argentina
This paper presents novelty information about the distribution of Scinax granulatus in Argentina. These records were made ca. 300 km from the closest known locality. Here we propose that the species is expanding its range following the tree implantation in a former treeless habitat like the Pampas.Fil: Agostini, Maria Gabriela. Ground-based observations of comets, the Jupiter plasma Torus, and Io
Aspects of cometary and magnetospheric physics were investigated by means of ground-based astronomical spectroscopy. High-throughput, dual-etalon Fabry-Perot spectrometers were used to obtain very high resolution spectra of atomic, molecular, and ionic emission lines from the diffuse gases and plasmas associated with comets and the Jupiter plasma torus. The Fabry-Perot spectrometers were also used with a charge coupled device (CCD) camera to obtain images of these extended emission sources in individual spectral lines at high spectral resolution. A new program using the McMath solar-stellar spectrograph to observe emission lines from Io was recently initiated. The McMath spectrograph has a high resolution mode which allows the detection of narrow, relatively faint emission lines superimposed on Io's reflected solar spectrum
d-Au and p-p collisions at RHIC and the multichain Monte Carlo Dpmjet-III
In this paper we compare systematically the two-component Dual Parton Model
(DPM) event generator Dpmjet-III to d-Au and p-p data from RHIC. In this
process we are able to improve the model. The need for fusion of chains and a
recalibration of the model to obtain collision scaling in h-A and d-A
collisions was found already in previous comparisons. Here, comparing to
transverse momentum distributions of identified charged hadrons we find also
the need to modify the transverse momentum distributions in the decay of
hadronic strings, the basic building blocks of the model on soft hadronic
collisions.Comment: 8 pages, 13 figures, Based on a contribution to a workshop "QCD at
