The survey is conducted to investigate the phase of activity MS ISO 9002 implementation and their effectiveness to the productivity and quality of Jabatan Pertanian in the district of Kedah. The concept of excellent quality management practices is operationalized by the following construct : staff commitment to the department, strategic quality process control and productivity. A research framework was developed and three hyphotheses were posited and tested. Data was collected through secondary data and using structured questionnaires. This study employed disproportionate stratified inclusion in the sample. Thirty five respondents from Pejabat Pertanian Daerah in Kedah participated in this study. Descriptive analyses and statistical analysis used were the Pearson correlation, mean and standard deviation. The results revealed that each of the phase of activity MS ISO 9002 implementation construct has a significant relationship with the productivity and quality of the Jabatan Pertanian in the district of Kedah. Using Pearson correlation analyses, all variable shown positive correlation whereas the highest corellation is focus towards farmer with r = 0.633 and the lowest correlation is quality training with r = 0349. Descriptive analyses through mean and standard deviation also shown focus towards farmer is the highest with mean 4.5486. Amongst the constructs, focus towards farmer, strategic quality planning and focus towards workers have very significant and positive relationship with the productivity. Therefore, these three variables deserve to be monitored and tailored appropriately in order to enhance Jabatan Pertanian productivity and quality. In conclusion, this study provides an insight into further understanding on how to enhance organizational productivity and quality, in order to improve farmers standard of living

Bioinformatic analysis of Rp1 gene causing visual disparity in humans

    Get PDF
Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a group of inherited diseases that damage rod and cone cells located in human retina. A nonsense mutation R677X has been identified in RP1 gene which not only causes mRNA degradation but also results in truncated protein production leading towards visual disparity in humans. Secondary structure of RP1 gene was determined in order to elucidate the structural changes conferred due to nonsense mutation R677X. The structural differences among non mutated and mutated RP1 gene range from 23 to 43%. Similarly, the truncated protein also resulted in the loss of certain functional as well as active sites which were identified by predicting motifs. A detailed comparison between non mutated and mutated RP1 gene revealed the significance of R677X mutation causing significant structural (helix, turn, sheet and coil) as well as functional loss. Four domains of RP1 gene were predicted using ModWeb and SWISS – MODEL Comparative Modeling Server. The 3D structures of the domains were determined based upon the crystal structure of the homologous templates. The 3D structures were then verified using PROCHECK protein structure validation and verification tool. The quality of the structures obtained was good. This is also useful for future work for annotating the functions of protein using their structures. Keywords: Retinitis pigmentosa, secondary structure, comparative modelin

Another D in MUDPILES? A Review of Diet-Associated Nondiabetic Ketoacidosis.

    Get PDF
Ketogenic diet or very-low-carbohydrate diet gained widespread popularity in the 1990s due to their favorable effects on weight loss and diabetes among others with good short-term safety data. People on ketogenic diets exist in a state of dietary ketosis in which the body production of ketone is equal to consumption and no harmful effects of ketonemia occur. However, in face of stress, the harmless dietary ketosis can lead to profound acid-base disturbances due to massive overproduction of ketone bodies that overwhelms the acid buffer system of the body. A handful of case reports have been published on this topic calling the safety of ketogenic diet into question. In this article, we chronicle a unique case of ketogenic (Atkins) diet-associated ketoacidosis, and we present a comprehensive literature review on the etiology of ketoacidosis

Key Factors of BIM Implementation for Interior Design Firms in Malaysia

    Get PDF
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a process to improve and innovative tools for visualize the design phases, to coordinate the projects and to communicate the drawings and documentations as well as innovative technology in the construction industry. In Malaysia, BIM previously implemented by Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) but in the Interior Design (ID) industry is a new approach and the lacking of knowledge is the issue for interior design industry to implement BIM. This research is to identify the key factors of BIM implementation in the interior design industry from the analysis of research and literature review. Mix-method was applied in this research and data were analysed to identify the key factors in this research. Research was found several of key factors in the interior design industry while using BIM in Malaysia.  These factors will be isolated as variables and barriers for BIM implementation

Smoking behaviour among young doctors of a tertiary care hospital in North India

Background:Tobacco use is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced. There are more than one billion smokers in the world. Almost half of the world's children breathe air polluted by tobacco. Aim of current study was to study the smoking trends among young doctors in a tertiary care institute in north India. Methods:A descriptive observational cross-sectional epidemiological study was conducted among 250 doctors of a tertiary care Hospital in Jammu & Kashmir (Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, SKIMS) during the two months of February-March, 2014. The predesigned tool adopted during data collection was a questionnaire that was developed at the institute with the assistance from the faculty members and other experts. Results:Among 250 participants, (20%) were smokers; among smokers, (76%) were regular smokers and (24%) were occasional smokers. Majority of smokers were in the age group of 21-30 years (80%) & started smoking between 11-20 years (70%). All of them were male (100%). No significant difference was observed among urban and rural students. Among smokers, majority (60%) was in the practice of smoking for last 6 months to 1 year and 26% smoked for <6 months; & (14%) smoked for more than 5 years .It was found more than half of the responding (60%) students used to smoke 5-9 cigarettes per day; 14% is <5 and 26% consumed 10 or more per day .Among smokers, peer pressure was found in 80% cases. (χ2 = 107, P <0.001). Among smokers, almost 20% had other addiction and among non-smokers only 5% had .Effect of parental smoking  was significantly higher in smokers than non-smoker (χ2 = 66.2, P <0.001) .It was seen that peer pressure was the most important risk factor (60%) of initiation of smoking habit followed by parental influence (20%). Majority (78.4%) had no intention to quit in the next 6 months. Lack of Incentive (36.36%) and Addiction (27.27%) were the main reasons for not quitting. Conclusion:We need to create more awareness regarding hazards of smoking in general population especially in medical students, and afterwards provide psychological and pharmacological support for those who intend to quit, as medical students can themselves become a tool to fight this hazard at all levels.
