    Generalization of the Manley-Rowe relations for non-periodic signals constrained in bandwidth with finite energy

    General relations for the energy spectral densities of nonperiodic signals constrained in bandwidth in nonlinear reactances are derived. It is assumed that the charge-voltage characteristics of the reactances are polynomials. In addition certain conditions for the frequency bands of the signals must be met. By contrast with the Manley-Rowe relations integrals with respect to frequency appear instead of the ratios power over frequency. The integrands are energy spectral densities divided by frequency. For parametric devices inequalities can be derived for the ratios of the energy levels in the different circuits and the limiting frequencies of the energy spectral densities. With these inequalities it is possible to determine limits for the energy levels

    On confidence bands for multivariate nonparametric regression

    In a multivariate nonparametric regression problem with fixed, deterministic design asymptotic, uniform confidence bands for the regression function are constructed. The construction of the bands is based on the asymptotic distribution of the maximal deviation between a suitable nonparametric estimator and the true regression function which is derived by multivariate strong approximation methods and a limit theorem for the supremum of a stationary Gaussian field over an increasing system of sets. The results are derived for a general class of estimators which includes local polynomial estimators as a special case. The finite sample properties of the proposed asymptotic bands are investigated by means of a small simulation study

    Confidence Corridors for Multivariate Generalized Quantile Regression

    We focus on the construction of confidence corridors for multivariate nonparametric generalized quantile regression functions. This construction is based on asymptotic results for the maximal deviation between a suitable nonparametric estimator and the true function of interest which follow after a series of approximation steps including a Bahadur representation, a new strong approximation theorem and exponential tail inequalities for Gaussian random fields. As a byproduct we also obtain confidence corridors for the regression function in the classical mean regression. In order to deal with the problem of slowly decreasing error in coverage probability of the asymptotic confidence corridors, which results in meager coverage for small sample sizes, a simple bootstrap procedure is designed based on the leading term of the Bahadur representation. The finite sample properties of both procedures are investigated by means of a simulation study and it is demonstrated that the bootstrap procedure considerably outperforms the asymptotic bands in terms of coverage accuracy. Finally, the bootstrap confidence corridors are used to study the efficacy of the National Supported Work Demonstration, which is a randomized employment enhancement program launched in the 1970s.     The development of German new technology-based firms from a resource-based view

    The author analyzed three different perspectives of the development of new technology-based firms (NTBFs) from the resource-based view. The first article discusses how the resource base impacts the internationalization behavior of German NTBFs. Some companies go international early, some internationalize only after a few years. We argued that the resource base is a substantial factor determining if a NTBF will internationalize or not. In the second article, we analyze how the resource base impacts the survival of German NTBFs. We argued that a lack of sufficient resources can lead to early business failure. We further state that the different resources are necessary to fulfill the requirements within the development phases of the NTBF. To broaden our perspective we combined the resource-based view with the market view. In the third article, we analyzed how the resource base impacts the business model innovation of NTBFs. The business model for NTBFs must often be tailored to fulfill the requirements of potential customers or to further grow the business.
