A Calibration Bound for the M-Theory Fivebrane
We construct a covariant bound on the energy-momentum of the M-fivebrane
which is saturated by all supersymmetric configurations. This leads to a
generalised notion of a calibrated geometry for M-fivebranes when the
worldvolume gauge field is non-zero. The generalisation relevant for Dp-branes

On the Energy Momentum Tensor of the M-Theory Fivebrane
We construct the energy momentum tensor for the bosonic fields of the
covariant formulation of the M-theory fivebrane within that formalism. We then
obtain the energy for various solitonic solutions of the fivebrane equations of

New perspectives - approaches to medical education at four new UK Medical Schools
To create more UK doctors, the government has funded an increase in medical student numbers of 57% (from 3749 to 5894)1 between 1998 and 2005. This has been done by increasing student places at existing medical schools; creating shortened programmes open to science graduates; “twinning” arrangements, which host an existing curriculum at a new site; and four entirely new schools (table 1). Through reflection on our experiences and the literature evidence, we examine to what extent these new schools have a common vision and approach to undergraduate medical education, and we discuss the rationale for and likely outcomes of these new ventures
Fulfilling Lives: Supporting people with multiple needs, Evaluation Report, Year 1
This report is prepared for the Big Lottery Fund (the Fund) by the national evaluationteam and provides emerging findings and lessons learned from the first year of thenational evaluation of the Fulfilling Lives: Supporting people with multiple needsinitiative hereafter referred to as Fulfilling Lives (multiple needs).The national evaluation has been designed to determine the degree to which the initiativeis successfully achieving its aims and how they are being achieved. The evaluation will beboth formative and summative in nature, in that, it will inform the ongoing design and delivery of Fulfilling Lives (multiple needs) and its component projects as well as assessoverall achievements and value for money to inform future decision and policy making.Within this context, the evaluation has a number of objectives:— To track and assess the achievements of the initiative and to estimate the extent to whichthese are attributable to the projects and interventions delivered.— To calculate the costs of the projects and the corresponding value of benefits to theexchequer and wider society. This will enable an assessment of value for money of theprogramme and for individual interventions.— To identify what interventions and approaches work well, for which people, families andcommunities and in which circumstances and contexts.— To assess the extent to which the Big Lottery Fund's principles are incorporated into projectdesign and delivery and to determine the degree to which these principles affect successfuldelivery and outcomes.— To explore project implementation, understand problems faced and to facilitate theidentification of solutions and lessons learned
Assessing Integrated Water Management Options for Urban Developments - Canberra case study
Urban water services in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) are currently provided through conventional centralised systems, involving large scale water distribution, wastewater collection, water and wastewater treatment. A study was conducted to assist Environment ACT in setting broad policies for future water services in Canberra. This paper presents the outcomes of a study examining the effects of various water servicing options on water resources and the environment, for two townships in Canberra, one existing and one greenfield site. Three modelling tools were used to predict the effects of various alternative water servicing scenarios, including demand management options, rainwater tanks, greywater use, on-site detention tanks, gross pollutant traps, swales and ponds. The results show that potable water reductions are best achieved by demand management tools or a combination of greywater and rainwater use for existing suburbs, while 3rd pipe systems are preferred for greenfield sites. For this specific climatic region and end use demands, modelling predicted increased water savings from raintanks compared to greywater systems alone, with raintanks providing the additional benefit of reduced peak stormwater flows at the allotment scale. Rainwater and stormwater reuse from stormwater ponds within the catchments was found to provide the highest reduction in nutrient discharge from the case study areas. Environment ACT amended planning controls to facilitate installation of raintanks and greywater systems, and commenced a Government funded rebate scheme for raintanks as a result of this study
New Measurements with Stopped Particles at the LHC
Metastable particles are common in many models of new physics at the TeV
scale. If charged or colored, a reasonable fraction of all such particles
produced at the LHC will stop in the detectors and give observable out of time
decays. We demonstrate that significant information may be learned from such
decays about the properties (e.g. charge or spin) of this particle and of any
other particles to which it decays, for example a dark matter candidate. We
discuss strategies for measuring the type of decay (two- vs three-body), the
types of particles produced, and the angular distribution of the produced
particles using the LHC detectors. We demonstrate that with O(10-100) observed
decay events, not only can the properties of the new particles be measured but
indeed even the Lorentz structure of the decay operator can be distinguished in
the case of three-body decays. These measurements can not only reveal the
correct model of new physics at the TeV scale, but also give information on
physics giving rise to the decay at energy scales far above those the LHC can

Non-Perturbative Green's Functions in Theories with Extended Superconformal Symmetry
The multiplets that occur in four dimensional rigidly supersymmetric theories
can be described either by chiral superfields in Minkowski superspace or
analytic superfields in harmonic superspace. The superconformal Ward identities
for Green's functions of gauge invariant operators of these types are derived.
It is shown that there are no chiral superconformal invariants. It is further
shown that the Green's functions of analytic operators are severely restricted
by the superconformal Ward when analyticity is taken into account.Comment: 17 pages, plain tex. Some conjectures that were in the original paper
