The ex ante marginal values of management strategies for farm producers facing significant exposures to accident risks is assessed. A probit model describing the factors influencing the probability of a farm accident is estimated jointly with an ordered probit model for the severity of the accident.Farm Management,

Staging Republic And Empire: Politics Of English Drama, 1603-1660

This study argues that the classical legal concepts of dominium and imperium, ownership and rule, illuminate the political tensions of seventeenth century English drama. The concept of imperium was central to seventeenth century debates over the terms of international commerce, setting important precedents for the development of modern international law. Geopolitical disputes over dominium and imperium shadow the developing conflict between republican, monarchical, and imperial models of the English state from the Stuart monarchy to the post-revolutionary English republic. In the drama of the early to mid-seventeenth century, we can trace the emergence of designs for an imperial English state well before the Restoration and the eighteenth century. Moving from the reign of James I to the Protectorate under Oliver Cromwell, this study reevaluates the genres of tragicomedy, closet drama, topical drama, and operatic masques, analyzing Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher's Philaster and A King and No King, Elizabeth Cary's The Tragedy of Mariam, Philip Massinger and John Fletcher's The Tragedy of Sir John van Olden Barnavelt, and William Davenant's The Siege of Rhodes. The aim of this work is to contribute to a more nuanced understanding of the politics of pre-revolutionary seventeenth century drama, beyond the traditional focus on the antagonism between royalist and anti-royalist factions, and to redress the conventional neglect of English drama between the closure of the playhouses in 1642 and the restoration of the monarchy in 1660

A Comparison of Clothing Styles and Values of Korean and Japanese Youth Subcultures

Korea and Japan are two countries in Asia with a long shared history and what seem from afar to be similar values, such as modesty, filial piety and diligence. However, a more in-depth look into the two countries shows that Korean and Japanese people in fact have different minds and values. Both countries have five to six established youth subcultures in the 2000s that reflect Korean and Japanese society, and the pressures, values and lifestyles of youths. The aim of this study was to compare the youth subcultures of Korea and Japan, focusing on their clothing styles, and interpret why the differences in styles exist, using aspects of their respective social circumstances, status of youths, and traditional values as indexes, and to ultimately help deepen understanding of the relationship between clothes and culture, youths today, and the issues and trends that most affect youths in Korea and Japan. Fundamental Elements for Successful Performance of CT Colonography (Virtual Colonoscopy)

    Get PDF
There are many factors affecting the successful performance of CT colonography (CTC). Adequate colonic cleansing and distention, the optimal CT technique and interpretation with using the newest CTC software by a trained reader will help ensure high accuracy for lesion detection. Fecal and fluid tagging may improve the diagnostic accuracy and allow for reduced bowel preparation. Automated carbon dioxide insufflation is more efficient and may be safer for colonic distention as compared to manual room air insufflation. CT scanning should use thin collimation of ≀3 mm with a reconstruction interval of ≀1.5 mm and a low radiation dose. There is not any one correct method for the interpretation of CTC; therefore, readers should be well-versed with both the primary 3D and 2D reviews. Polyps detected at CTC should be measured accurately and reported following the "polyp size-based" patient management system. The time-intensive nature of CTC and the limited resources for training radiologists appear to be the major barriers for implementing CTC in Korea

Development of a Provisional Domain Model for the Nursing Process for Use within the Health Level 7 Reference Information Model

Objective: Since 1999, the Nursing Terminology Summits have promoted the development, evaluation, and use of reference terminology for nursing and its integration into comprehensive health care data standards. The use of such standards to represent nursing knowledge, terminology, processes, and information in electronic health records will enhance continuity of care, decision support, and the exchange of comparable patient information. As part of this activity, working groups at the 2001, 2002, and 2003 Summit Conferences examined how to represent nursing information in the Health Level 7 (HL7) Reference Information Model (RIM). Design: The working groups represented the nursing process as a dynamic sequence of phases, each containing information specific to the activities of the phase. They used Universal Modeling Language (UML) to represent this domain knowledge in models. An Activity Diagram was used to create a dynamic model of the nursing process. After creating a structural model of the information used at each stage of the nursing process, the working groups mapped that information to the HL7 RIM. They used a hierarchical structure for the organization of nursing knowledge as the basis for a hierarchical model for "Findings about the patient.” The modeling and mapping reported here were exploratory and preliminary, not exhaustive or definitive. The intent was to evaluate the feasibility of representing some types of nursing information consistently with HL7 standards. Measurements: The working groups conducted a small-scale validation by testing examples of nursing terminology against the HL7 RIM class "Observation.” Results: It was feasible to map patient information from the proposed models to the RIM class "Observation.” Examples illustrate the models and the mapping of nursing terminology to the HL7 RIM. Conclusion: It is possible to model and map nursing information into the comprehensive health care information model, the HL7 RIM. These models must evolve and undergo further validation by clinicians. The integration of nursing information, terminology, and processes in information models is a first step toward rendering nursing information machine-readable in electronic patient records and messages. An eventual practical result, after much more development, would be to create computable, structured information for nursing documentatio
