    High-resolution, reconfigurable printing of liquid metals with three-dimensional structures

    We report an unconventional approach for high-resolution, reconfigurable 3D printing using liquid metals for stretchable, 3D integrations. A minimum line width of 1.9 ??m can be reliably formed using direct printing, and printed patterns can be reconfigured into diverse 3D structures with maintaining pristine resolutions. This reconfiguration can be performed multiple times, and it also generates a thin oxide interface that can be effective in preventing the spontaneous penetration of gallium atoms into different metal layers while preserving electrical properties under ambient conditions. Moreover, these free-standing features can be encapsulated with stretchable, conformal passivations. We demonstrate applications in the form of a reconfigurable antenna, which is tunable by changing geometeries, and reversibly movable interconnections used as mechanical switches. The free-standing 3D structure of electrodes is also advantageous for minimizing the number and space between interconnections, which is important for achieving higher integrations, as demonstrated in an array of microLEDs

The collected data based of survey are analyzed through frequency analysis, t- test, one-way ANOV A analysis by SPSS WIN ver 12.0. The result is following : First, there were statistical difference of leisure activities attitude in behavioral attitude between Korean students and America students. Second, there were statistical difference shows difference grade sector, own major, personal expenses in recognitive attitude. Third, the statistical difference shows grade sector, personal expenses in definitive attitude. Forth, the statistical difference shows grade sector, own major and personal expenses in of behavioral attitude

    High-Resolution 3D Printing of Freeform, Transparent Displays in Ambient Air

    Direct 3D printing technologies to produce 3D optoelectronic architectures have been explored extensively over the last several years. Although commercially available 3D printing techniques are useful for many applications, their limits in printable materials, printing resolutions, or processing temperatures are significant challenges for structural optoelectronics in achieving fully 3D-printed devices on 3D mechanical frames. Herein, the production of active optoelectronic devices with various form factors using a hybrid 3D printing process in ambient air is reported. This hybrid 3D printing system, which combines digital light processing for printing 3D mechanical architectures and a successive electrohydrodynamic jet for directly printing transparent pixels of organic light-emitting diodes at room temperature, can create high-resolution, transparent displays embedded inside arbitrarily shaped, 3D architectures in air. Also, the demonstration of a 3D-printed, eyeglass-type display for a wireless, augmented reality system is an example of another application. These results represent substantial progress in the development of next-generation, freeform optoelectronics

    Akt regulates the expression of MafK, synaptotagmin I, and syntenin-1, which play roles in neuronal function

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Akt regulates various cellular processes, including cell growth, survival, and metabolism. Recently, Akt's role in neurite outgrowth has also emerged. We thus aimed to identify neuronal function-related genes that are regulated by Akt.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>We performed suppression subtractive hybridization on two previously established PC12 sublines, one of which overexpresses the wild-type (WT) form and the other, the dominant-negative (DN) form of Akt. These sublines respond differently to NGF's neuronal differentiation effect.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>A variety of genes was identified and could be classified into several functional groups, one of which was developmental processes. Two genes involved in neuronal differentiation and function were found in this group. v-Maf musculoaponeurotic fibrosarcoma oncogene homolog K (MafK) induces the neuronal differentiation of PC12 cells and immature telencephalon neurons, and synaptotagmin I (SytI) is essential for neurotransmitter release. Another gene, <it>syntenin-1 </it>(<it>Syn-1</it>) was also recognized in the same functional group into which <it>MafK </it>and <it>SytI </it>were classified. Syn-1 has been reported to promote the formation of membrane varicosities in neurons. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analyses show that the transcript levels of these three genes were lower in PC12 (WT-Akt) cells than in parental PC12 and PC12 (DN-Akt) cells. Furthermore, treatment of PC12 (WT-Akt) cells with an Akt inhibitor resulted in the increase of the expression of these genes and the improvement of neurite outgrowth. These results indicate that dominant-negative or pharmacological inhibition of Akt increases the expression of <it>MafK</it>, <it>SytI</it>, and <it>Syn-1 </it>genes. Using lentiviral shRNA to knock down endogenous Syn-1 expression, we demonstrated that Syn-1 promotes an increase in the numbers of neurites and branches.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Taken together, these results indicate that Akt negatively regulates the expression of <it>MafK</it>, <it>SytI</it>, and <it>Syn-1 </it>genes that all participate in regulating neuronal integrity in some way or another.</p

    Estimation of Fugacity of Carbon Dioxide in the East Sea Using In Situ Measurements and Geostationary Ocean Color Imager Satellite Data

    The ocean is closely related to global warming and on-going climate change by regulating amounts of carbon dioxide through its interaction with the atmosphere. The monitoring of ocean carbon dioxide is important for a better understanding of the role of the ocean as a carbon sink, and regional and global carbon cycles. This study estimated the fugacity of carbon dioxide (fCO(2)) over the East Sea located between Korea and Japan. In situ measurements, satellite data and products from the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) and the Hybrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM) reanalysis data were used through stepwise multi-variate nonlinear regression (MNR) and two machine learning approaches (i.e., support vector regression (SVR) and random forest (RF)). We used five ocean parameters-colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM; &lt;0.3 m(-1)), chlorophyll-a concentration (Chl-a; &lt;21 mg/m(3)), mixed layer depth (MLD; &lt;160 m), sea surface salinity (SSS; 32-35), and sea surface temperature (SST; 8-28 degrees C)-and four band reflectance (Rrs) data (400 nm-565 nm) and their ratios as input parameters to estimate surface seawater fCO(2) (270-430 mu atm). Results show that RF generally performed better than stepwise MNR and SVR. The root mean square error (RMSE) of validation results by RF was 5.49 mu atm (1.7%), while those of stepwise MNR and SVR were 10.59 mu atm (3.2%) and 6.82 mu atm (2.1%), respectively. Ocean parameters (i.e., sea surface salinity (SSS), sea surface temperature (SST), and mixed layer depth (MLD)) appeared to contribute more than the individual bands or band ratios from the satellite data.     Current Status of Biportal Endoscopic Decompression for Lumbar Central Stenosis

    Degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis commonly occurs in elderly patients aged above 50-60 years. Surgical intervention is indicated for patient refractory to conservative management, and microscopic decompression has been used for direct spinal canal decompression. The development of surgical instruments and spinal endoscopic system can make possible endoscopic surgery as the useful treatment option for degenerative lumbar disease. Endoscopic spine surgery was mainly preformed in lumbar disc disease through transforaminal route. And then, endoscopic interlaminar approach was introduced using endoscopic drill, more developed endoscopic disc forceps, and Kerrison punches, and so on. Uniportal endoscopic spine surgery through interlaminar space can make possible direct spinal canal decompression in cases with lumbar spinal stenosis, however stiff learning curve still remains the limitation of this surgery. Biportal endoscopic spine surgery was also introduced as the minimal invasive spine surgery, which is basically similar to microscopic surgery and relatively familiar approach to spine surgeons. Biportal endoscopic spine surgery can offer clean operative view in monitor through continuous irrigation and endoscope with large diameter compared to uniportal endoscopic equipment, and this approach may be alternative surgical approach for decompression of lumbar spinal stenosis. Now many spine surgeons perform biportal endoscopic surgery for lumbar central spinal stenosis, and the reports have been published. He we write the technical procedure of biportal endoscopic surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis, discussing about surgical considerations, and also review the surgical outcomes from the previously published articles

    Crowned dens syndrome as a rare cause of anterior neck pain after transurethral resection of the prostate: a case report

    We describe the case of a 79-year-old man who presented with progressive aggravation of severe axial neck pain and fever 3 days after transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), despite maintaining neutral neck posture during surgery. Laboratory examination revealed markedly elevated C-reactive protein levels and erythrocyte sedimentation rates. Computed tomography revealed crown-like calcifications surrounding the odontoid process. We diagnosed crowned dens syndrome (CDS) as the cause of acute-onset neck pain after TURP. The patient was treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for 5 days, and his symptoms resolved completely. CDS is a rare disease characterized by calcific deposits around the odontoid process with acute onset of severe neck pain and restricted motion. Evidence of inflammation on serological testing and fever are typical of CDS. However, the prevalence and pathophysiology of CDS remain unclear. We hypothesized that systemic inflammation after prostate surgery may have induced a local inflammatory response involving calcification around the odontoid process
