    Knowledge-based FIS and ANFIS models development and comparison for residential real estate valuation

    There has been an increasing concern on the development of alternative approaches to overcome the problems and deficiencies that occur during the application of real-estate valuation methods. This study was established to investigate the usability of the expert knowledge based fuzzy logic methodology in determining real-estates values. In addition, valuation with the Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) method provided model comparison. Samples were administered a questionnaire for the parameters planned for these models regarding the parameters that affect real estate values. To make value estimations for the Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) model by using the parameters obtained from the questionnaire analyses, the criteria that produced the best results were acquired from the various criteria alternatives. An algorithm was created and the valuation process for real estate was performed using the FIS in Konya/Turkey. As a result of poll studies the area, age, floor conditions, physical properties and location of the real-estate property were considered as the input variables and the market value as the output variable. The memberships were established with poll analysis and were rule based on expert knowledge. The model structure was formed by using the Mamdani structure in the MATLAB fuzzy toolbox. Model prediction performance was evaluated statistically with the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) and a high accuracy of the model results to the market values indicated the reliability of the established model for residential real-estate valuation

    In today's conditions, with the phenomenon of urbanization, natural habitats, which people and animals need, are disappearing at an increasing rate. As a result of the rapid consumption of natural habitats, many species and human life are adversely affected. Open public spaces which people can spend their leisure time and get away from urban life, albeit for a short-term, and reach recreation, remain inadequate in terms of quality and quantity. Zoos, one of the places where people spend time with animals, are planned and designed with the concept of insufficient space. However, in order to be efficient for people and animals, exhibit areas of animals should have a wide and unlimited effect. In this study, the concept of zoo and purposes, types and planning-design principles of zoos will be discussed. Subsequently, the concept of wildlife park (safari park) will be examined. In summary, the fact that safari parks are in fact typologies of zoos and how they differ in our country will be explained

    Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for carbon monoxide poisoning

    Carbon monoxide poisoning is a life-threatening poisoning. In this case report neurological findings developed in carbon monoxide poisoning and the importance of multidisciplinary approach are discussed. The patient, 16-year-old male, was found unconscious following a 1-hour exposure to gas water heater poisoning and brought to our hospital after being intubated at the scene of the accident. After treatment for bicarbonate deficit, hepatamine infusion was started and hyperbaric oxygen treatment was performed. The patient was connected to mechanical ventilator in our department. The treatment were performed for cerebral edema. And hyperbaric oxygen treatment continued for 12 days. The patient was disconnected from the ventilator on the 36 th day of the follow-up. Medical history and clinical examination are very important in the diagnosis of carbon monoxide poisoning. The patient should be followed up with laboratory examinations and imaging methods such as magnetic resonance imaging in order not to overlook neurological sequelae or any organ injury. Additionally hyperbaric oxygen treatment performed in acute period and goal-directed therapy decrease mortality and morbidity

    Melatonin Prevents UVB-Induced Skin Photoaging by Inhibiting Oxidative Damage and MMP Expression through JNK/AP-1 Signaling Pathway in Human Dermal Fibroblasts

    Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) irradiation causes damage to the skin and induces photoaging. UV irradiation stimulates production of reactive oxygen/nitrogen species, which results in activation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) in fibroblasts. MAPKs are responsible for activation of activator protein-1 (AP-1), which subsequently upregulates expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Melatonin is a potent free radical scavenger which is known to have photoprotective effects. The aim of this study is to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms for the photoprotective effects of melatonin in UVB-irradiated primary human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs) in terms of EGFR activation, oxidative/nitrosative damage, JNK/AP-1 activation, MMP activities, and the levels of tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) and type I procollagen (PIP-C). In this study, HDFs were pretreated with 1 μM of melatonin and then irradiated with 0.1 J/cm2 of UVB. Changes in the molecules were analyzed at different time points. Melatonin inhibited UVB-induced oxidative/nitrosative stress damage by reducing malondialdehyde, the ratio of oxidized/reduced glutathione, and nitrotyrosine. Melatonin downregulated UV-induced activation of EGFR and the JNK/AP-1 signaling pathway. UVB-induced activities of MMP-1 and MMP-3 were decreased and levels of TIMP-1 and PIP-C were increased by melatonin. These findings suggest that melatonin can protect against the adverse effects of UVB radiation by inhibiting MMP-1 and MMP-3 activity and increasing TIMP-1 and PIP-C levels, probably through the suppression of oxidative/nitrosative damage, EGFR, and JNK/AP-1 activation in HDFs
