    Convection Flow of MHD Couple Stress Fluid in Vertical Microchannel with Entropy Generation

    Entropy generation of fully developed steady, viscous, incompressible couple stress fluid in a vertical micro-porous-channel in the presence of horizontal magnetic field is analysed in this work. The governing equations for the flow are derived, and nondimensionalised and the resulting nonlinear ordinary differential equations are solved via a rapidly convergent technique developed by Zhou. The solution of the velocity and temperature profiles are utilised to obtain the flow irreversibility and Bejan number. The effects of couple stresses, fluid wall interaction parameter (FSIP), effective temperature ratio (ETR), rarefaction and magnetic parameter on the velocity profile, temperature profile, entropy generation and Bejan number are presented and discussed graphically

    Literature Review of Areas of Application of Supply Chain Management in Construction Industry

    Construction projects are becoming increasingly complex and the conventional methods of managing them have plateaued over the years. The complexity could be traced to the complexity of designs, which requires inputs from different suppliers/contractors. This has led to fragmentation where suppliers/ contractors specialize in a given project and are contracted to deliver only on their area of expertise. The aim of this paper is to produce evidence of the areas of application of supply chain management (SCM) in the construction industry. The aim was achieved by a thorough literature review of works done in the area. The results showed that all the selected research on the SCM falls within eight major areas. They are procurement, logistics, models application, information, performance evaluation, customer relationship, environmental management and sustainability.     Modified CiteScore metric for reducing the effect of self-citations

    Elsevier B.V. launched a scholarly metric called CiteScore (CS) on December 8, 2016. Up till then, the journal impact factor (JIF) owned by Clarivate Analytics (Thomson Reuters) was the only trusted metric for journal evaluation. As noted by Teixeira da Silva & Memon (2017), CS offers some observed advantages over JIF. The potentials of CiteScore as a viable metric are still emerging. The paper briefly introduces a variant of the CiteScore that can be used in quantifying the impact of researchers and their institutions. The ultimate aim is to reduce the numerical effect of self-citations (SC) in academic publishing. The reduction is designed to discourage SC but not diminishing it. The reasons for the adopted methodology are discussed extensively. The proposed modified CiteScore metric is simple, transparent and constructed to ensure integrity in academic publication. The result showed that the proposed modified CiteScore is a better option than the traditional CiteScore and hence, can be applied in impact determination, the ranking of authors and their institutions, and evaluation of scientists for a grant award. The approach used in this paper is entirely new in two ways; first, a metric similar to journal ranking is proposed for ranking authors and their institutions and secondly, disproportionate scores are awarded to different sources of citations to reduce perceived dishonesty in academic publications. In conclusion, this research is one of very few to report the effect of SC on CiteScore. Hitherto, the effect of SC has always been on the journal impact factor (IF)

    HAVE SOME SIGNATORIES OF A COVID-19 LITERATURE OPEN ACCESS AGREEMENT RENEGED ON THEIR PROMISE?

    Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is one of humanity’s greatest modern socio-medical challenges. Cognizant of the serious nature of this pandemic, and before it was characterized as such, the Wellcome Trust in the UK took the bold and important initiative to call on publishers to make any research related to COVID-19 open access (OA) and encourage them to adopt open data (OD) policies. In a public statement, many publishers of subscription-based and OA journals agreed that all literature related to COVID-19 would be OA as a service to the public, society and humanity. Despite that stated agreement, evidence indicates that not all literature pertaining to this pandemic or virus is OA. In thus study, Web of Science data (August 4, 2021) indicates that 83.7% of 2020 COVID-19-related literature (78.4% for 2021; average of 81.2%) is OA, i.e., an average of 19.8% in 2020 and 2021 was not OA. It is not clear why that literature is not OA. Signatories of that Wellcome Trust-coordinated statement should offer a public explanation, or abandon being signatories

    Pregnancy related deaths (PRD) are public health concern in most developing countries and Nigeria in particular. Despite the efforts put in by the concerned authorities, PRD remains an integral part of maternal mortality or maternal deaths in Nigeria in general and Borno state in particular, as evidenced from the records obtained from Umaru Shehu Hospital, Maiduguri (a state hospital in the state capital. The data contains frequency of PRD in months and grouped into gynaecology, ante-natal and post-natal, and labour obtained from mid-2009 to mid - 2017. The statistical analysis of the data may reveal the extent of incidence or epidemiology of PRD is in the state.     Breast cancer patients in Nigeria: Data exploration approach

    Breast cancer is the type of cancer that develops from breast tissue; it is mostly common in women and it is one of the most studied diseases, largely because of its high mortality (second to lung cancer). However, it occurs in males also. This article presents a statistical study of the distribution of age, gender, length of stay, mode of diagnosis, status (dead or alive) after treatment and the location of breast cancer among 300 patients admitted in the University of Ilorin teaching hospital, Ilorin, Nigeria. The study covers a period of five (5) years; from 2011 to 2016 and logistic regression was used to perform the basic analysis in this study. It was discovered that the age of patients and the location of the breast cancer (right or left) contributes significantly to the survival of the patients. However, early detection and treatment of the disease is highly encouraged. This study also recommends that awareness should be taken to the grassroots and males should not be excluded from this discussion. Keywords: Breast cancer, Logistic regression, Mortality, Oncolog

    Geostatistical exploration of dataset assessing the heavy metal contamination in Ewekoro limestone, Southwestern Nigeria

    The dataset for this article contains geostatistical analysis of heavy metals contamination from limestone samples collected from Ewekoro Formation in the eastern Dahomey basin, Ogun State Nigeria. The samples were manually collected and analysed using Microwave Plasma Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (MPAS). Analysis of the twenty different samples showed different levels of heavy metals concentration. The analysed nine elements are Arsenic, Mercury, Cadmium, Cobalt, Chromium, Nickel, Lead, Vanadium and Zinc. Descriptive statistics was used to explore the heavy metal concentrations individually. Pearson, Kendall tau and Spearman rho correlation coefficients was used to establish the relationships among the elements and the analysis of variance showed that there is a significant difference in the mean distribution of the heavy metals concentration within and between the groups of the 20 samples analysed. The dataset can provide insights into the health implications of the contaminants especially when the mean concentration levels of the heavy metals are compared with recommended regulatory limit concentration

    Differential Evolution in Wireless Communications: A Review

    Differential Evolution (DE) is an evolutionary computational method inspired by the biological processes of evolution and mutation. DE has been applied in numerous scientific fields. The paper presents a literature review of DE and its application in wireless communication. The detailed history, characteristics, strengths, variants and weaknesses of DE were presented. Seven broad areas were identified as different domains of application of DE in wireless communications. It was observed that coverage area maximisation and energy consumption minimisation are the two major areas where DE is applied. Others areas are quality of service, updating mechanism where candidate positions learn from a large diversified search region, security and related field applications. Problems in wireless communications are often modelled as multiobjective optimisation which can easily be tackled by the use of DE or hybrid of DE with other algorithms. Different research areas can be explored and DE will continue to be utilized in this context

    Water quality assessment for groundwater around a municipal waste dumpsite

    The dataset for this article contains geostatistical analysis of the level to which groundwater quality around a municipal waste dumpsite located in Oke-Afa, Oshodi/Isolo area of Lagos state, southwestern has been compromised for drinking. Groundwater samples were collected from eight hand-dug wells and two borehole wells around or near the dumpsite. The pH, turbidity, salinity, conductivity, total hydrocarbon, total dissolved solids (TDS), dissolved oxygen, chloride, Sulphate (SO4), Nitrate (NO3) and Phosphate (PO4) were determined for the water samples and compared with World Health Organization (WHO) drinking water standard. Notably, the turbidity, TDS, chloride and conductivity of some of the samples were above the WHO acceptable limits. Also, high quantities of heavy metals such as Aluminum and Barium were also present as shown from the data. The dataset can provide insights into the health implications of the contaminants especially when the mean concentration levels of the contaminants are above the recommended WHO drinking water standard.
