Pau’s taxa from Morocco: summary and types
Póster presentado en la XV Optima Meeting celebrada en Montpellier del dÃa 6 al 11 de junio de 2016 -- http://www.optima2016.org/en/welcome-to-montpellier/Carlos Pau (1857-1937) was one of the first Spanish botanists interested in the flora of Northern Morocco (González-Bueno & Gomis, 2005). He began to study it in 1908, thanks to some plants supplied by other naturalists. In spite that he only visited Morocco two times, during the next 28 years he described about 400 taxa from this area. Although there is an exhaustive list of Pau’s taxa (Carrasco, 1975), it is not complete and the typification of the majority of the names is still to be considered.
The main source of original Pau’s names is the personal collection of the author (c. 100,000 specimens), included in the MA Herbarium of the "Real JardÃn Botánico de Madrid" (Mateo, 1995). Original material can also be found in the BC Herbarium of the Botanical Institute of Barcelona due the close relationship between Pau and Pius Font Quer, the curator of this herbarium at that time.Peer reviewe

21 p.[EN]The herbarium of the Botanic Institute of Barcelona (BC) is the largest collection of plants of Catalonia and the second of Spain due to its volume, and it is representative of the flora of the western Mediterranean region. It includes, apart from the general collection, other historical collections (from 17th to early 20th century). The main objectives of this study were to evaluate if the endemic and threatened taxa of Catalonia are represented in the herbarium. We also provide chronological and geographical information of herborization intensity, as well as altitudinal, chorological, chronological, phenological and over-collection risk new data. We analyzed the general collection and part of informatized historical herbaria (Cadevall, Hieraciotheca Gallica et Hispanica, Institució Catalana d’Història Natural, Salvador, Societat Botà nica Barcelonesa and Trèmols [volumes I-XXI]). Specimens collected from Catalonia have been found to represent 82.24% of the 304 endemic and threatened taxa. The areas with more herborization pressure were Ribes Valley, Montserrat, Port Massif, Cardó Mountains, Montseny and Montsec Mountains. The new chorological data provided expands the distribution of Berberis vulgaris L. subsp. seroi O. Bolòs & Vigo and Stachys maritima Gouan. Contribution to the knowledge of the flora of Lluçanès, I
We provide floristic data from the Lluçanès region (center of Catalonia), one of the least explored areas of Catalonia from a botanical point of view. Our work collects data of 21 rare taxa in Catalonia or Ausosegarric region, among which stands out Buglossoides incrassata and Ambrosia tenuifolia
Assessing the relevance of herbarium collections as tools for conservation biology.
Herbarium collections constitute permanent and often well-documented records of the distribution of taxa through space and time. Since their creation, their uses have dramatically expanded and with many new uses being proposed, including some for which herbaria were not initially intended for. In this paper we assess the potential of these collections on conservation biology, by providing exemplary studies that use herbarium specimens, grouped into four categories: (1) based on occurrence data, such as studies about plant extinction or introduction, or those focused on modelling their ecological niche; (2) based on the specimens themselves, such as morphological or phenological studies to evaluate the impact of climate change; (3) based in genetic data, such as phylogeographic or taxonomical studies; and (4), other applied studies
