Historiographical perspectives about food in Ancient Greece

El estudio de la alimentación en el mundo antiguo ha sido uno de los aspectos que más han llamado la atención en la investigación moderna. No obstante, ante la elevada cantidad de trabajos que se han realizado, consideramos interesante ofrecer una perspectiva general del estado de la cuestión e indicar las principales tendencias y corrientes interpretativas acerca de la relación entre el individuo, el alimento y la sociedad del mundo griego.The study of food in the ancient world has been one of the most appealing aspects for the modern researchers. Delicacies of bassinet and bed: sacrificial birth and wedding banquets in the Athenian democracy in the fourth century BC

Mientras que los banquetes sacrificiales políados han recibido en los últimos años una merecida y justa atención por parte de los especialistas en la cultura griega clásica, no ha ocurrido lo mismo en el caso de los banquetes sacrificiales de carácter familiar. En esta contribución vamos a explorar uno de los aspectos más importantes de este tipo de celebraciones: la adquisición, preparación, exhibición y consumo de los alimentos en el marco de estas festividades. De este modo, vemos cómo estas prácticas se relacionan con procesos más generales en el mundo griego en los que el alimento se constituye como un elemento clave para pensar, comprender y expresar las relaciones interpersonales a lo largo del siglo IV a.C.While the public sacrifices have been deeply studied in the last years by scholars and specialists in Greek classical culture, the familiar sacrificial feasts haven´t received the same attention. In this contribution, we are going to study one of the most relevant aspects in this kind of celebrations: the acquisition, preparation, exhibition and consumption of food. In doing so, it will be seen how these practices are related with more general processes in the Greek world along the Fourth Century BC, where the food is a key element for thinking, understanding and expressing the interpersonal and social relationships
