Integration of Cutting-Edge Interoperability Approaches in Cyber-Physical Production Systems and Industry 4.0

    Get PDF
Interoperability in smart manufacturing refers to how interconnected cyber-physical components exchange information and interact. This is still an exploratory topic, and despite the increasing number of applications, many challenges remain open. This chapter presents an integrative framework to understand common practices, concepts, and technologies used in trending research to achieve interoperability in production systems. The chapter starts with the question of what interoperability is and provides an alternative answer based on influential works in the field, followed by the presentation of important reference mod4els and their relation to smart manufacturing. It continues by discussing different types of interoperability, data formats, and common ontologies necessary for the integration of heterogeneous systems and the contribution of emerging technologies in achieving interoperability. This chapter ends with a discussion of a recent use case and final remarks

Design Low Order Robust Controller for the Generator’s Rotor Angle Stabilization PSS System

    Get PDF
The electrical system's problem stabilizes the electrical system with three primary parameters: rotor angle stability, frequency stability, and voltage stability. This paper focuses on the problem of designing a low-order stable optimal controller for the generator rotor angle (load angle) stabilization system with minor disturbances. These minor disturbances are caused by lack of damping torque, change in load, or change in a generator during operation. Using the RH∞optimal robust design method for the Power System Stabilizer (PSS) to stabilize the generator’s load angle will help the PSS system work sustainably under disturbance. However, this technique's disadvantage is that the controller often has a high order, causing many difficulties in practical application. To overcome this disadvantage, we propose to reduce the order of the higher-order optimal robust controller. There are two solutions to reduce order for high-order optimal robust controller: optimal order reduction according to the given controller structure and order reduction according to model order reduction algorithms. This study selects the order reduction of the controller according to the model order reduction algorithms. In order to choose the most suitable low-order optimal robust controller that can replace the high-order optimal robust controller, we have compared and evaluated the order-reducing controllers according to many model order reduction algorithms. Using robust low-order controllers to control the generator’s rotor angle completely meets the stabilization requirements. The research results of the paper show the correctness of the controller order reduction solution according to the model order reduction algorithms and open the possibility of application in practice. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2021-01299 Full Text: PD

An overview of Industry 4.0 Applications for Advanced Maintenance Services

    Get PDF
Manufacturing today has experienced dynamic changes imposed by social-technical systems that address economic, social and sustainable requirements. Furthermore, the technologies in Industry 4.0 have also brought many smart applications to advance manufacturing to the next level of development. In a focused sense, maintenance plays a key role in manufacturing to create value propositions—extension of equipment useful life and enhancement in overall equipment effectiveness—for stakeholders towards economics and sustainability. In this context, the maintenance services that create the value propositions are not only delivered as after-sales maintenance services but developed to advanced maintenance services embedded into Industry 4.0 applications. To provide a clearer picture of the development, this work aims to review and categorize the maintenance services in three groups—basic services, intermediate services, advanced services—associated with technologies in Industry 4.0 across the life-cycle maintenance service

Human‑centred design in industry 4.0: case study review and opportunities for future research

The transition to industry 4.0 has impacted factories, but it also afects the entire value chain. In this sense, human-centred factors play a core role in transitioning to sustainable manufacturing processes and consumption. The awareness of human roles in Industry 4.0 is increasing, as evidenced by active work in developing methods, exploring infuencing factors, and proving the efectiveness of design oriented to humans. However, numerous studies have been brought into existence but then disconnected from other studies. As a consequence, these studies in industry and research alike are not regularly adopted, and the network of studies is seemingly broad and expands without forming a coherent structure. This study is a unique attempt to bridge the gap through the literature characteristics and lessons learnt derived from a collection of case studies regarding human-centred design (HCD) in the context of Industry 4.0. This objective is achieved by a well-rounded systematic literature review whose special unit of analysis is given to the case studies, delivering contributions in three ways: (1) providing an insight into how the literature has evolved through the cross-disciplinary lens; (2) identifying what research themes associated with design methods are emerging in the feld; (3) and setting the research agenda in the context of HCD in Industry 4.0, taking into account the lessons learnt, as uncovered by the in-depth review of case studies

Human-Centred Design in the context of Servitization in Industry 4.0: A Collaborative Approach

The competitiveness of the business today will depend on empowering hu-man intelligence and creativity, capturing and capitalizing on available infor-mation and knowledge for the total product and service lifecycle. To realize this beyond technical aspects, the collaborative work of multidisciplinary and inter-sectoral teams is constituted to develop an appropriate methodology of human-centred design (HCD) with advanced service innovation in indus-try 4.0. Based on the state-of-the-art analysis and industrial requirements, the methodology is tested with European industrial cases in various sectors to validate its implementation and benefits. This paper aims to provide the well-rounded collaborative framework to deliver the new HCD methodology

Evaluation of COVID-19 protease and HIV inhibitors interactions

The epidemic of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that started in 2019 has evoked an urgent demand for finding new potential therapeutic agents. In this study, we performed a molecular docking of anti-HIV drugs to refine HIV protease inhibitors and nucleotide analogues to target COVID-19. The evaluation was based on docking scores calculated by AutoDock Vina and top binding poses were analyzed. Our results suggested that lopinavir, darunavir, atazanavir, remdesivir, and tipranavir have the best binding affinity for the 3-chymotrypsin-like protease of COVID-19. The comparison of the binding sites of three drugs, namely, darunavir, atazanavir and remdesivir, showed an overlap region of the protein pocket. Our study showed a strong affinity between lopinavir, darunavir, atazanavir, tipranavir and COVID-19 protease. However, their efficacy should be confirmed by in vitro studies since there are concerns related to interference with their active sites

Stochastic finite element analysis of the free vibration of non-uniform beams with uncertain material

This paper deal with the stochastic finite element method for investigating the eigenvalues of free vibration of non-uniform beams due to a random field of elastic modulus. The formulation of stochastic analysis of the non-uniform beam is established using perturbation method in conjunction with finite element method. Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) used for validation with stochastic finite element approach. The spectral representation was used to generate a random field to employ the Monte Carlo simulation. The performance of results of the uncertain eigenvalue problem of non-uniform beams with random field of elastic modulus by comparing the first-order perturbation technique with the same moments evaluated from the Monte Carlo simulation. The numerical results show that the response of coefficient of variation of eigenvalue increases when the ratio of correlation distance of random field increases
